  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Parking Sensors

Thanks for the info. I'll post back when I tear back into it. Supposed to rain here in Houston for the rest of the week!

I'm guessing you're missing an attachment :P

That damage indicates the car was almost certainly in a front collision of some sort. Or a gorilla just peeled off the bumper cover.

Hit the connectors with CRC Letric-Clean, bit you may need to pull off the bumper cover and check for harness damage or poorly seated sensor connectors.

The cover is held on by 4 bolts up top IIRC and the one main screw in both fender liners.
Letric Clean in the connector didn't do the trick, unfortunately... There is a bad connection somewhere though. Sometimes, I can cycle the console switch and they'll function momentarily. And occasionally they'll work perfectly for a few minutes and then go FUBAR again - usually when it's extremely humid or has been raining overnight.

Your fault is likely at one of the sensors then. Either a sensor itself or a connection at the sensor. I think each one has a 5 pin connector and they aren't known for the plastic snaps keeping them in, particularly if they were ever damaged. Dropping the bumper cover might be more than you want to get into depending on the condition of your underbody panels.

I haven't looked at GDS for a while but I think it would explicitly call out the faulty point in the ultrasonics circuitry.

Drag. I was trying to avoid the Dealership. Perhaps a last ditch effort would be to use Letric Clean on the sensors themselves....?

If you're willing to pull the bumper cover off, you might find one or more of the sensor connectors are full of crud. Particularly if someone reused a wrecked sensor, it might not seal so well. Be very gentle with the bumper mounts that hold the sensors in, they're fragile when new and worse after a few years. They're spot welded to the plastic with a dot matrix press and they don't get very convincing bonds.

I think that it's the Driver's side ones that are wonky - if I cycle the console button the others will work momentarily....
