  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hey guys, I currently drive a FBO/Tuned 2015 3.8 Sedan RWD (290WHP) and I'm looking to update to a 2018 3.3T Sport. I'm inquiring about AWD for my needs as I may end up just settling for a RWD.

I've been looking for the AWD Version of the car for WEEKS and haven't found a single one available within a reasonable distance (<300mi). I've even been looking through dealers like Carmax and Carvana that do deliveries.

I live in Texas so I don't need the AWD system, however I feel it would be a nice benefit for performance. I'm looking to go FBO/E85/Tune very shortly after purchasing. Looking at some internals / turbo upgrades down the line. I drive the piss out of my cars. Dragstrips, road-courses, some rolls here and there. I want to make sure that whatever transmission I go with ends up being extremely stout so I won't have to worry about the power. My end-goals are around ~620WTQ.

I've never had an AWD Vehicle before although the ones that I have been in have always felt like rockets.
I'm starting to wonder if it's really worth the hassle if I'm not going to be doing launches from a stop constantly.
I'm assuming RWD is going to be faster once you get moving since there's quite a bit less weight?

Also if any of you have a BOV setup for the G80 I've been trying to find one. ;)

If you hope to ever go WOT in first (and maybe 2nd) gear after mods you'll want AWD. If you hope to drive it confidently in the rain, you'll want AWD. If you want to go full throttle coming out of a corner, you'll want AWD.

It really is that important if you want to use the power. Sure, you can get slicks for a RWD and rule the dragstrip. Michelin makes some awesome street tires that Corvette owners swear by (and that I use on my Sonata's FWD of Fury) but at the end of the day you can't beat the physical traction of AWD.

I doubt there is much difference from a roll -- the AWD adds like 150 lbs max to the car and since you're already talking 4500 lbs it's basically a wash.

Your goal is more than the stock transmission has been proven to handle. JB4 owners have discovered it starts to slip around 125 mph trap speeds, probably somewhere just after 500 wtq.

Awesome, I finally found a AWD in my area and drove one, it's definitely my go-to, now I just have to choose a color. Thanks for the response!

How did you get your 3.8 tuned ? I thought they dont have tunes for that engine ?
