  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis GV70 Reviews

Or maybe they are comparing the GV70 to their favorite war horses?

I’d like to see some comparisons to the RX, NX, RDX and QX50/55. Driving dynamics are a notch below the Germans. How about the Japanese?
Very possible. I drove the rdx and nx. Liked the rdx and didn't like the nx at all. Also nx interior felt crammed to me. Gv70 was better than both but it was the 3.5t so I am waiting on the judgement next week when I get to drive the 2.5. I really hope it will not make me cancel my order.

Genesis and the press would try to promote comparisons with the Germans as they are considered the benchmarks in the luxury segment. I'd wager that strategically, Genesis is probably aiming to take market share from Lexus/Acura/Infiniti. It'd be much easier to convince potential buyers to switch from a Japanese brand to Genesis rather than from the Germans. I wonder if there's any recent stats that show conquest buyers. I vaguely recall from a while ago a study that showed that the brand that most Genesis buyers switched from was Lexus.

My wife switched from Audi...

My bet is that comparison testing will show the GV70 dong very well dynamically vs the base models of the Germans in particular. Q5 vs BMW X3 xDrive30i vs GLC 300 vs GV70 2.5T is going to make for a rough comparison test for the Germans I suspect; they’re down on power and and de-contented vs their more powerful siblings. That said as the Germans move up market their offerings tilt towards sportier overall packages, while the Genesis’s features (ie road preview suspension) tilt more towards luxury.

I bet Genesis is aiming squarely for the Germans simply due to the higher potential profit margins. That’s where the money is…

I initially thought this as well. But almost all reviews compare them to German SUVs instead of lexus, acura, or infiniti. So it might be that they are not competing against the Japanese rivals.

Genesis is shooting for the Germans (but with a more American bent) - which is why they went with an all-RWD lineup.

Having said that, wish the GV70 was more like the G70 in terms of handling because its sheetmetal and the Sport moniker certainly give that impression.

The GV80, otoh, is perfectly fine being a lux cruiser.

Despite not having the handling chops of say, the X5, it's the GV80 that made C/D's 10Best list.

Nah, much better for Genesis to be continued to be compared against the Germans as opposed to the FWD Japanese.

Like for the GV80, the G90 is more a luxo-cruiser, yet is ranked ahead of the 7 Series and LS by C/D.

In the MT comparison, finished 1st ahead of the LS and 7 Series hybrid (S Class and A8 weren't included) despite not being the most dynamic driving-wise.

Also, beating the Continental didn't do much for the G90.

Followed by BMW, and then Mercedes and Cadillac (tied).

Remember, that was before Genesis had any CUVs and back when Lexus still had the GS.

The G80 and G90 undercut the GS and LS, whereas the GV80 and GV70 are priced higher than the FWD Japanese CUVs.

The top trim of the GV70 is actually priced higher than the top trim of the MDX.

Don't think it's a coincidence that the largest % of conquests were from brands that sold RWD sedans.

If Genesis had gone with FWD CUVs instead of RWD, they would be compared against the Japanese and domestics instead of the Germans.

The FWD lux CUVs are just as apt, if not more so, to be compared to the top trims of the Telluride, Palisade and CX-9.

Can't recall the last time the RX/RX-L was in a comparison test with the Germans.

And in numerous XT6 reviews, the Telluride kept popping up.

Until we get the Type S variant. Seeing how Acura foolishly considers themselves above Genesis as demonstrated by the TLX Type S and its pricing, I bet the MDX Type S will be quite a bit more expensive than a fully loaded G80 3.5T Prestige.

Still hardly any real reviews in the US for this vehicle.

After driving ours, the GV70 is definitely tilted toward luxury. It drives very well, but is not as sporty as the SQ5 or BMW X3. However, in my opinion, based on overall comfort as well as driving, it beats the competition .

Can't find a X3 M40i anywhere in the greater Phoenix area. Nothing new. Can barely find any new BMW's. Everything is "In Transit". Translation ....... chip shortage. Don't see many Audi SQ5's either. Genesis has vehicles. Could be some interesting sales numbers in the 3rd and 4th quarter.

I’ve rented the newer Q5’s. It handles better than the GV70 but that comes at a significant ride penalty. You feel a lot more impact harshness in the Q5 when driving over expansion joints or pot holes. I’ll take the smoother ride of the GV70 on 18’s or 19’s over a more firmly damped Q5, X3 or GLC. I don’t think the average luxury crossover buyer is looking for sport sedan handling.

Agree especially since most of these luxury SUV's are being bought for the wives who mostly won't care about zero to 60 times

Another Canadian review from TheDriveGuyde:

Decent review hard to understand him with those golf balls in his mouth. Please Alex, Redline, Motormouth anyone from America who has a clue please get on this vehicle.

Eh, isn’t Motormouth from Canada lol? Vancouver IIRC. Here’s their GV70 vs Q5 comparo.

Sorry I meant "Motoman TV". I've got my fill of Canadian reviews..

I actually used to think the Motormouth reviews were ok. But, now that they are all done in tandem, I really don't care for them at all. I guess they think a couples review format is unique and will have broader appeal, but sometimes less is more...

Yet another reviewer spewing the same nonsense about this sharing the G70 platform- it doesn't.

these reviewers get their info straight from Genesis And work directly with them. Why would they lie about it?

Totally agree. It's nice to get a woman's perspective but it feels like they are using her as a prop.

Genesis has literally never said anything about the GV70 sharing the G70 platform. All the Korean reviewers mention the GV70 sitting on the GV80/G80 M3 platform, and I highly doubt the North American reviewers are more informed than they are.

These guys mention it because they read it online from some western news source like Motor Trend and want to establish a connection between the GV70 and G70 that isn't there.

I have been debating between the 2022 BMW X3 at $48,000(HUD, Digital Gauges are included) vs Genesis 2.5T Advanced/Prestige at $50,000/$52,000. I test drove both 2.5T and 3.5T and really liked 3.5T but dont have the budget for its prestige package but I found bmw drive of X3 better than the 2.5T GV70 (I hate Genensis are not giving digital cluster on 2.5t prestige model).

2022 x3 does look way better than the 2021 version but GV70 has a very exclusive look but no digital gauge, hud and lesser drive in 2.5t is pushing me towards X3.

Both include 3 years of maintenance which is great.
