I basically went to my nearest Genesis dealership to test drive the GV70. I then started asking about pricing and he tentatively told me about the $5k markup. So I asked what the total OTD price was, as MSRP is meaningless bc they will just add a bunch of fees on afterwards. I then left the dealership and went online and got a quote from every Genesis dealer within 200 miles. I was up front and honest with them by telling them that I was definitely going to buy the car, but it just depended in on who wanted to give me the best deal and earn my business, and so I let the bidding war begin. When I finally got a price I was satisfied with, which was about $4k lower than what the first dealership offered me, I had what I needed to seal a deal. I had been car searching for about a month since I was rear ended and pushed into another vehicle in a 4 car pileup. My truck was deemed a total loss, and so I was using a rental car for about month, and doing nothing but car research every day. I narrowed it down to an Acura TLX Type S sports sedan, an Acura MDX SUV, the upcoming
Infiniti QX60 SUV, or the Genesis G70 sports sedan. I had my heart set on the Acura MLX Type S, but the only one at my local dealership was just a demo car. It had the Apex Blue color, and that was the only color I would go for. I didn't even know about the GV70 until I arrived at the Genesis dealership to test drive the G70. Ad the moment I laid eyes on it, I was in love. After test driving it, I became head over heels in love. The GV70 was the perfect middle ground between the large SUV's and the 4 door sports sedans that I was looking at. It had the practicality with the extra space for storage and a newborn, and the power and fun driving experience of the sports cars. And so when the salesman at that same original dealership that I test drove the vehicle texted me again to see if I was still interested in it, I emailed him the quote I received from the other dealership and told him that if he could do even a little bit better than that offer, then I would be there the next day to take delivery. Throughout the process, I was honest and polite with my salesman. We had been texting back and forth for about a week, and I told him that he was the friendliest and most accommodating salesman that I had worked with throughout the process, which he was, and I had been dealing with many, and so if he could get his sales manager to get me to that ideal number, I would love to give him my business. I never understood why some people want to make car buying an adversarial affair. The salesman wants to make a sale and make as much commission just as you want to purchase a vehicle and save as much money as possible. You are both trying to meet the same goal but you just have to find the right middle ground, but you don't have to be asses to each other to do it. Even if it doesn't effect the bottom line, it makes the experience much more enjoyable, and buying a car should be. And as luck would have it, that dealership had the color I wanted and the exact trim level that I wanted. Plus, I'm so busy with work and the thought of driving 150 miles to go buy a car that didn't have my color of choice made me really hope my local dealership was willing to play ball, and they were. So all the pieces fell into place. So with a favorable price during a seller's market, on top of the unbeatable 10 year warranty, 5 year bumper to bumper, and 3 year free maintenance and valet service (which is HUGE for my busy schedule), I honestly could not be happier.
