  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

GV70 - honest discussion

I was close to getting a BWM 340i, I wanted a sporty sedan that I would enjoy the perfomance and drive and ended up landing on GV70 3.5T Sport. For me it wasn't about what was missing but rather what it had. The mesh/leather seats give it sporty feel, the performance is fantastic (and I had a 500+hp Scat Pack prior to this), and there's alot of car for the money....additionally it's a 2022 where the BMW's were all 21's. To top it off I got a great discount below MSRP and great service from my sales guy. Nothing like the price gouging horror stories posted here.

Nice, was looking at the m340 also.

Any details on your deal? Buy/Lease? State/Dealer? Sounds like you were able to work out a good deal.

Huh, so the GV70 does have rotating headlights.

I wonder if this applies only to U.S. models or if the Korean ones with the matrix headlamps have them as well.
Do the US models definitely have this??

My 2013 Hyundai Genesis R-SPEC sedan had this, so I’m most likely sure they‘d apply it to the GV.

Matrix headlights have rendered swiveling headlamps obsolete. The newer Genesis models with the two lines all have matrix lights but not here in the U.S. due to federal regulations. The question is whether these swiveling headlamps are only on U.S.-spec models in order to compensate for the lack of matrix headlamps.

If so, that means mechanically the headlamp modules are different from the Korean versions and thus "unlocking" the matrix headlamps is 100% impossible as it wouldn't even be the same part.

Would like to know this

Would like to know about the dealer and deal.

I was in the same position. I was actually shopping an Acura TLX Type S, but the one at the dealership was only a demo, but they were getting more but not the color I wanted. I saw a lot of videos comparing the TLX Type S to the G70, so I drove over to the Genesis dealer to check them out. While I was there, I saw the GV70 and was in love. I have a new infant, and while a 4 door sedan would suffice, a small SUV would be much more practical, plus you get so much more tech and even more horsepower! I also got a good deal below MSRP by using my usual tactics. Overall, I couldn't be happier.

I think I have some pretty good tactics too, but curious to hear what worked for you in this current environment? Thanks!

Sorry just saw your post. This is from Genesis USA's YouTube page so yes, the swiveling lamps are for U.S. models. But it doesn't have the matrix lamps of the global/KDM models.

I basically went to my nearest Genesis dealership to test drive the GV70. I then started asking about pricing and he tentatively told me about the $5k markup. So I asked what the total OTD price was, as MSRP is meaningless bc they will just add a bunch of fees on afterwards. I then left the dealership and went online and got a quote from every Genesis dealer within 200 miles. I was up front and honest with them by telling them that I was definitely going to buy the car, but it just depended in on who wanted to give me the best deal and earn my business, and so I let the bidding war begin. When I finally got a price I was satisfied with, which was about $4k lower than what the first dealership offered me, I had what I needed to seal a deal. I had been car searching for about a month since I was rear ended and pushed into another vehicle in a 4 car pileup. My truck was deemed a total loss, and so I was using a rental car for about month, and doing nothing but car research every day. I narrowed it down to an Acura TLX Type S sports sedan, an Acura MDX SUV, the upcoming Infiniti QX60 SUV, or the Genesis G70 sports sedan. I had my heart set on the Acura MLX Type S, but the only one at my local dealership was just a demo car. It had the Apex Blue color, and that was the only color I would go for. I didn't even know about the GV70 until I arrived at the Genesis dealership to test drive the G70. Ad the moment I laid eyes on it, I was in love. After test driving it, I became head over heels in love. The GV70 was the perfect middle ground between the large SUV's and the 4 door sports sedans that I was looking at. It had the practicality with the extra space for storage and a newborn, and the power and fun driving experience of the sports cars. And so when the salesman at that same original dealership that I test drove the vehicle texted me again to see if I was still interested in it, I emailed him the quote I received from the other dealership and told him that if he could do even a little bit better than that offer, then I would be there the next day to take delivery. Throughout the process, I was honest and polite with my salesman. We had been texting back and forth for about a week, and I told him that he was the friendliest and most accommodating salesman that I had worked with throughout the process, which he was, and I had been dealing with many, and so if he could get his sales manager to get me to that ideal number, I would love to give him my business. I never understood why some people want to make car buying an adversarial affair. The salesman wants to make a sale and make as much commission just as you want to purchase a vehicle and save as much money as possible. You are both trying to meet the same goal but you just have to find the right middle ground, but you don't have to be asses to each other to do it. Even if it doesn't effect the bottom line, it makes the experience much more enjoyable, and buying a car should be. And as luck would have it, that dealership had the color I wanted and the exact trim level that I wanted. Plus, I'm so busy with work and the thought of driving 150 miles to go buy a car that didn't have my color of choice made me really hope my local dealership was willing to play ball, and they were. So all the pieces fell into place. So with a favorable price during a seller's market, on top of the unbeatable 10 year warranty, 5 year bumper to bumper, and 3 year free maintenance and valet service (which is HUGE for my busy schedule), I honestly could not be happier.

Congrats! But like... So... What did you get?? Pics welcome!

I was playing w infotainment and accidentally threw the thing into NEUTRAL while he had his foot on the gas because I spun the wrong dial.

With a gear selector, they're typically either gated or have a button to release them, so you can't bump against it and go from D to R (right now I have a button, don't recall if the previous gated one made it easy to get from D to N or R to N). There should be something that stops it from doing what you described. Could you have thrown it from DRIVE into REVERSE, or does that require a special operation?

Given all the complains on this forum about Bluetooth connections, Navigation updates, cruise control not responsive enough we should go back to building '56 Chevys again, then never had those problems.

That would also solve production delays due to the chip shortage.

I don't know why so many are bothered by the shift wheel. I would prefer a traditional lever but in todays shift by wire world even the levers don't do much. I certainly prefer the high end wheel to a push button set up or Mercedes with their windshield wiper transmission lever.

There's something tactile and satisfying about a lever. Especially if you enjoy shifting manually and don't love paddle shifters.

That said, I agree the wheel is better than some other options. The GLC43 we have has the stalk lever you mentioned and, while it really is surprisingly convenient ergonomically, I can't help but hate it. Even worse and more out character for GLC63 owners I reckon...

IMO, There’s NOTHING classy about that windshield wiper transmission lever, idk why they’re still doing that.

Personally love the GV knob. It’s classy, it’s glass, it’s lit on your ambient color. To me, one of the best interior pieces, including the Nav wheel, glass around the whole thing. It’s the small touches that make a car stand out in the luxury segments.

How do you like your GV70? Is it a Prestige model? Any issues with it so far?
I received my unyi white ultramarine blue last week. It’s beautiful and the design resonated. There are plenty of great cars out there. They’ve been refined over many years and this is just the beginning or early years for the Genesis brand. There are some things tgat need improving a dms hopefully some will not wait for the next model year but in totality the package is pretty unique and refreshing.

Updates Desired:
1. Wireless Carplay
2. iPhone Digital Key
3. Better gas mileage
4. More gauge cluster themes
5. More 14” themes
6. More ambient lighting color choices
7. Attention to detail on surface propensity for fingerprints including door handles, console, and glossy buttons
8. Service: Stand alone genesis dealers to focus attention on the brand and the brands customers. Sitting in-line with other brands to get service on a luxury vehicle will get old regardless of how good the people are.
9. Service: More Genesis loaner cars at dealers.
You mention the fingerprints on the door handles, console and glossy buttons. Does anyone have suggestions on how to keep them clean? The door handles are particularly annoying. Is there is a special cleaner anyone recommends? I'd love to know what to use to prevent this or make it less noticeable. Thanks.

Do you all think there's a chance that Genesis would change any trim or color options on the 2022 GV70? Or is that set in stone, and can only be altered for 2023? I hate that my only seat options on the top end trim is black suede, or white quilted.

They are not changing anything for the 2022s.
