  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Wings

I used blue painters tape. First I ran a piece up from the grill center line to find the center on the hood.. Then I created a box just a tiny bit bigger than the wing...measuring up from the grill on each side. Placed the wing tips at the corners of the box and lowered it into place. I measured and moved the tape a bunch of times before feeling comfortable enough to attach the emblem.

P.S. I let the curvature of the emblem "show" me how high to mount it (about 1.5" above grill.) The emblem curves more at the front...kind of like a bird's beak. I slid the emblem up and down the hood till it's bottom edge best matched the curvature of the hood. It had more surface contact and was "stickier" when sliding through that location.

Very smart way of doing it. I was thinking of aligning the center by using an elastic rope/thread from the center of the grill to the center of the hood that meets the wind shield.
But that box thing is a good idea.
I'll try to make a 1:1 scale of the actual badge and use that card board to determine the location.
Was it exactly 1.5" above the chrome piece(attached to the hood)?
Would you mind measuring it again when you get a chance?
Thanks again, Disaster.
BTW, I've seen maybe 4 Genesis'(3 V6, 1 V8) around Troy area within the past couple weeks. :) None of them being black.

I like that idea even better. Lay the emblem on a piece of thick cardboard and trace around it. Cut out the marked hole, which the emblem will sit in, with an Exacto knife. Cut a square box around the silhouette form and tape that to the hood. When you get that perfectly centered you can just carefully place the actual emblem down in the cut out.

I guessed a bit high. From the bottom point of the emblem to the top of the chrome grill measured almost exactly 1 inch....952" to be precise. I imagine this could vary a quarter inch with the "best fit" method I used.

I've not seen another one on the road in metro Detroit since we bought it...any color. I have a friend who lives in Troy...about 10 minutes from us in Bloomfield Hills. He's got a BMW, an Acura and a Volvo. He loves the way the Genesis looks but I think he loves the status of his cars more.

Someone who is in Korea measured the location of a KDM installed front badge and posted it on this forum. I thought he said about 1" above the grill, but don't remember exactly.

Exactly. I guess I got inspiration from your method. :)
I'll see what I can do.

Thank you so much for taking your time to measure it for us. I also carefully looked at the close-up pictures of the KDM Genesis' and noticed the gap between the bottom of the badge and the chrome piece appeared to be about an inch, maybe less.
All the photos I could find were shot in an angle, so I couldn't calculate the exact measurements.

Really? I saw 2 Genesis' before I got mine, and only saw one after I got mine.. until about a week ago.
I don't know if it's the weather that made the owners bring out their Gennys but I've seen one beige gold V8, 2 red V6s, and 1 Titanium grey V6 in front of Kona Grill. :)
Hopefully I can see yours one day. I'll know if it's you by looking at the wing emblems. :D

Only saw the one...a couple months before we bought ours...parked out in front of Carl's Golfland on Telegraph. Never heard of the Genesis before that (must have missed the Superbowl ads and car of the year announcements.)

There may be others with KDM badges but I'm probably the only one in the area that removed the GENESIS lettering of the trunk. Our Genesis isn't driven casually around a lot. My wife drives it to work every day, but when we run to the mall or grocery store we usually take my car or my son's car...both already have a few parking lot scars. We always drive my son's '99 Avalon to dangerous crowded lots...like the high school and the farmer's market. Its never got dinged in the last two years...it is like some reverse Murphy's law. Meanwhile, my Acura has taken have a dozen hits over the same time.

I hate door dings.
I guess it's good to have multiple cars to take for different occasions.
Unfortunately, the Genny is the only car for me, so I park further away from entrances to minimize the chance of getting a ding. :)

Parking way in the back provides some of our best exercise with walking. For the first 6 months I am totally committed to paranoia.

That's exactly what I tell my better half when she complains time to time. :D
