  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I'm sure this has been discussed before, but I am curious. I have a 2019 G80 and the sunroof creaks. Is this caused by one of the roof pieces rubbing against the other, or is the frame loose? I haven't been able to tell. I am wondering if there is a way to put rubber gasket around the piece to isolate it from the other piece, or if this means that the frame needs to be tightened or replaced.

There are lots of discussions here on sun roof noises. Search up sun roof creaks or noises and prepare for an hours worth of reading. A lot is on G70, but I think we all share similar sun roof styles so I’d read it all to see what folks have done and what repairs some dealers have been doing.

I had a creak in the rear of my 2021 G80 sunroof. Dealer replaced a gasket which improved things. However, there is still some minor creaking now on the passenger side of the sunroof. While having an oil change, I asked them to look at it again. They said they did the 4 or 5 things that Genesis recommends to fix the problem with no success. ( At least they hear it, unlike other dealers) Anyway, they took it upon themselves to order a new sunroof. I‘m picking up my car today and will be bringing it back in a week for the work. I’m hoping they are capable of this major repair and that I didn’t start something I’ll regret for a minor creak. At least the dealership is going all out to solve it. Has anyone had their sunroof replaced successfully ?

Did this replacement fix the issue?

For what it's worth, approximately 1 year ago I went through the exact same thing "They said they did the 4 or 5 things that Genesis recommends to fix the problem with no success." I have a 2018 Genesis G80 Ultimate HTRAC . Under warranty they replaced the sunroof at 20,000 miles and so far, now at 28,000 miles all is well and during the Summer I open and close it quite often. I also had well deserved BIG concerns/reservations re. competency of Hyundai/Genesis dealer but miracles do happen . I have a 2018 Genesis G80 Ultimate HTRAC. Besides that only other issue was the driver's seat issue (loose seat rail) which they replaced under warranty

Good to hear. I am concerned scratches on the roof paint, leaks, or dirt or cuts to the headliner. Fingers crossed .
Sometimes you think, should I just put up with a creak ?

Trust me, given time the creak will get to you.

Trust me, given time it will drive you crazy. Time to take the gloves off, I would go your dealer and make sure they know that their life will not be worth living if the job is not perfect. That means no fingerprints on the headliner, all interior trim pieces are installed perfectly and of course zero scratches.

lubricant may solve for a squeak but not the ticking/creak noise coming from the roof.

anyone tried this lubricant, seems like an easy fix?

Light, there is a fairly comprehensive fix online located here which may help:

I sent this to my dealership when they were working on my car and said they never heard a creaking issue. When I go to pick up the ride I will have to take them for a ride to show it off to them, annoyed that they said they don't hear it because I hear it 100% of the time.

That instruction has a lot involved and all the items can be purchased on Amazon, no clue how well it works though.

I guess I'm confused, does this apply to the headliner creaking noise I'm hearing, or just the sunroof rattle noise? Are these both the same issue or different? Does this only apply to 2015-2016 vehicles, or can my 2018my apply to this as well?

Hi all, I just acquired a 2018 G80. It's wonderful so far, and exactly what i'm looking for. Unfortunately, the sunroof rattles when closed. Only over bumps, as others have noticed, and I can't hear it with the cover closed. The car is still under warranty so I will take it to the dealer if need be, but I am hopeful that I can try some lubricant as a solution and that this may fix it.

I checked out the TSB and it says at the beginning that if the sunroof is tilted and the noise goes away, then the TSB doesn't apply. When I tilt mine, the noise goes away. Is that a good indicator or bad?

My "noise" came from the sunroof whether opened or closed specifically just behind the drivers seat where the crossbar separates the sunroof in two. Had the sunroof replaced and has been silent ever since.

what dealer did the warranty repair for you? I have the exact same problem and the local dealer here is dragging its feet in fixing anything.

Curious myself.

That is where I believe most of my noise is coming from. I can't drive in any condition beyond roof fully closed with shade drawn otherwise it creaks an unacceptable amount, enough that passengers have asked me about the noise.

Tired of dealer visits so I'll be performing that TSB I posted as I did purchase all the tools to do so, hoping results will help me enjoy the pano-roof more.

As I live in Connecticut I had it done at Danbury Genesis. They got the job done but I have since left them as they are unbelievably incompetent. I now go to Genesis of Fairfield which is better.

PS. Dealer put up a fight at first because they have to remove the headliner and it is a big job BUT be persistent. I have put on 10,000- miles since and my sunroof has been quiet ever since
