I personally think the economic argument is a bit of a strawman. because theres plenty of inventory (genesis around me hasnt taken a dip, its been consistent so chip shortage isnt likely applicable like other manufacturers.) it just comes down to pure greed & short-sightedness on one hand. and "free money" phenom on the other hand. consumers are not only flush w/cash (stimulus etc, workers/job seekers market esp for white collar jobs which presumably is the target audience for this vehicle) & money being so cheap (literally free) some consumers arent thinking twice about paying way above MSRP. which sucks for the market in general, so I'm sticking to my principles & holding stat until I can get a good deal. because the more we encourage bad/piggy behavior by the dealers, the more it will be normalized & not go away, ever.Every couple three weeks I’ll check out my local dealer where I got mine and see how fast they’re turning over inventory. They had between 5-7 on the lot but the owner has them jacked $5998 over msrp. They’re just being piggy. My sales rep said they can’t keep them on the lot, very hot product.
Well they’ve had these six for a while, I watch the stock numbers, so congratulations dealership you’ve done your part on slowing down the sales. I think people as bad as want one are keeping their wits about them and saying pass.
Three days before I bought the GV I had put down a deposit on an order for a Lincoln Nautilus Black Label (very nice product) but was going to have to wait four months for it to arrive. They had a $1k discount on 2022 orders which was washed by the $1k price increase, but the few they had on the lot were at msrp. If they had a Black Label I wanted I would have bought it on the spot like I did on the GV. The GM doing my paperwork and I got into a discussion about the msrp business model vs the “piggy” markup model. His logic why they WERE’NT doing it was he wanted to move product. There are many mouths to feed here (service dept) so let’s recover from the pandemic.
I couldn’t wait four months with my new glitchy BMW 430ix and the miles adding up on this trade so I called the rep I bought my 2020 Palisade Limited from and said what about these GV70’s you’ve got. Bought one in the showroom delivered the day before but I wasn’t going to pay their $5k (then) piggy markup and got them down half of it. Then thought two can play and got more than what I needed to get out of the BMW so it was a net msrp purchase. They didn’t like my offer and tried to get their version but I said you can make a sale right now or wait for the next buyer.
So now those six GV70’s 3.5t sit on the lot with a $6k piggy markup and the sales people try and the mechanics hope. Which business model makes sense? Sell and move product at msrp profits or artificially slow the sales and hope with the piggy $6k markup?
This is a great economics/sociology experiment we’re watching on the balance between supply and demand and Uber piggyness, and reality is somewhere in between.
I purchased my gv70 from a dealer 600 miles from me. 2.5 standard MSRP, shipped for 700. Search and email a bunch of dealers. You will get a hit.Anyone know of a dealer selling a 2.5 for msrp around the boston area? Best offer i got so far is 2k over sticker.
In Australia they have moved to the internet model of fixed price. So no over under MSRP. Price in Australia for GV70 2.5t AWD with Luxury package is AUD 86,862 (USD$60,875)Please share with us prospective buyers what you paid for your GV70. Not so much interested in out the door price because every state is different on taxes, trade ins, etc. More interested in the amount you paid over MSRP, MSRP or under MSRP. Thanks for sharing.
Try Herb Connolly in Framingham if you already haven’tAnyone know of a dealer selling a 2.5 for msrp around the boston area? Best offer i got so far is 2k over sticker.
Try Genesis of Nashua. They claimed they sell at MSRP, no markups. You might also have a better chance if you place an order instead of taking whatever they have on the lot.Anyone know of a dealer selling a 2.5 for msrp around the boston area? Best offer i got so far is 2k over sticker.
I bought my car here for MSRP minus $500 military. However I'm local and bought there before. They said if I was out of state and a new customer they have a $2000 markup. Plus they don't get many cars. Right now they don't have any GV70's. I had to wait about 5 months before one came in that met all my needs.Try Genesis of Nashua. Hopefully someone driving there from MA doesn't count as "out of state".I bought my car here for MSRP minus $500 military. However I'm local and bought there before. nice, where are you located? and what shipper did you use? trying to see how much it would be to ship to TX.Himalayan gray 3.5T Sport, $500 under MSRP. Bought from Genesis Santa Monica and arranged my own shipping for $900. DM me if anyone wants sales rep info
congrats, what color interior?Did internet search and found a Hyundai/Genesis dealership 85 miles from me in NJ selling a GV70 in the color I wanted (Cardiff Green) at MSRP.
sweet, what color interior?Picked up a Sport Prestige 3.5TT in Cardiff Green (MSRP $64,045) a week ago in Pittsburgh. No mark up but they did have mandatory VIN etching for $299. I added floor mats, cargo cover, cargo tray, Genesis term protection and front PPF. OTD was $68,158 after the $500 military rebate.
I live 10 minutes from that dealership, they wanted over MSRP when I went there. Bought 90 minutes away instead. 2.5T Cardiff Green.Nearest dealer to me in NY wanted $2700. over MSRP for 2.5 Advanced. Plus, they made me a lowball offer of $28,500 trade in for my mint 2019 vehicle with 19k miles. Did internet search and found a Hyundai/Genesis dealership 85 miles from me in NJ selling a GV70 in the color I wanted (Cardiff Green) at MSRP. Plus, they offered me $4800. more trade in value!! Do the math.
We picked up the GV70 Saturday 12/11 at Denville Genesis. If you call there, ask for Nicole Andes or Sonny Bulak. I have probably bought at least 15 new vehicles during my lifetime and this purchase was the easiest, most pleasant experience I have had due to working with this dealership and especially Nicole and Sonny as most of the transaction was over the internet and phone. After the sale was done, Nicole even asked that we call her when we arrived home so that she knew that we got home safely as it was raining pretty hard when we left the dealership. Who does that in this day and age?
This was the first time I ever bought a vehicle from another state or even thought about it. It was all due to this forum. I am very appreciative and grateful for fellow genesis owners.com posts re their buying experiences and prices paid. Hope this helps someone else. Love my GV70!

I made my deal over the phone at MSRP on Nov. 22 with Nicole after being informed that the 2.5T GV70 Advanced was scheduled to arrive at the dealership on Dec. 8th which it did. I waited until Sat. Dec. 11th to drive there, trade in my car and pick up my GV70. All of the paperwork (Title, Lien release, insurance information, drivers license, numerous photos of vehicle I was trading in so condition could be evaluated, etc.) was done prior to pickup through internet and fax with Sonny Bulak who made the transaction very easy and trouble free. My interior is Obsidian Black which really looks like a very dark gray to me which I actually prefer.I live 10 minutes from that dealership, they wanted over MSRP when I went there. I should have also mentioned that the Genesis dealer in Manchester NH also told me MSRP.
Well done, I tried twice with them. I was looking at a 2.5 advanced in manchester and was offered $3000 because of "market adjustment." I told them i got an offer of msrp near me in boston...they eventually lowered their offer to $2000 and was adamant that's their best offer.Hopefully someone driving there from MA doesn't count as "out of state".
