  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

3.3T Jerky auto transmission (hard downshifts while braking)

For those that it did I am wondering if they just got used to it over time.
No you never would get used to it.
BTW I am very meticulous about the car performance or how it drives all the time.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
I’m having the same exact problem on my 2019 G70 3.3T with AWD. It’s driving me crazy!! I’ve had in in the dealer once already and they also say it tested fine and they reset the transmission. I figured out that it happens when the car hits 12 mph. The car is going back on the 17th and they’re expecting to keep it for a while to figure out the issue. I’ll keep everyone updated with what they find. Fingers crossed, as I really love this car, but the jerk when it downshifts is definitely spoiling my enjoyment.
Any updates?

Here is the update. They were unable to diagnose the problem and they have ordered me a new transmission. Unfortunately, it’s going to take 4-6 weeks to arrive; however, I am extremely appreciative of them going the extra mile to make it right. Mary from Genesis corporate has stayed on top of it the whole way. Fingers crossed that this fixes the problem!!

A new transmission? Seems extreme. Why not a new TCU first to see if that solves the issue. Replace it in 5 mins. At least they are taking care of you.

They kept the car for 10 days and I believe they had a list of things to try. They did reset the transmission again, but it didn’t work at all this time. I’m just glad they were able to actually identify that there is a problem. I can’t even count how many times in the past that I’ve heard, we can’t replicate the problem, so we can’t fix it.

Glad to hear they at least acknowledged the problem. Please keep us posted to let us know if the new transmission fixes the issue. Hope it does...

Will do.

I have a new entry to this discussion. Apparently to this tech..harsh shifts help the transmission 🤦🏼‍♂️27680487-F202-4ED1-BBF7-3A5BA0F33A03.webp

Interesting. I just received a call from Mary at corporate today to give me an update on my new transmission and tell me that they are expediting it. I’m sure she’d love to see this. Where did you have it serviced? Does yours only happen in Sport mode? Mine happens in any mode. Sometimes it jerks harder than others.

Genesis of downtown Nashville. As far as I can tell it only happens in sport but it never use happen the car on my has 6k on it. I expect it to become more prevalent as time passes but who knows.

After the fiasco I had trying to get my first service completed and the transmission issues, I already told the dealership that if I can find a replacement that I like, I won’t own a genesis in another month. Unfortunately, finding something I like is proving rather difficult.

I'm assuming the Stinger has the same transmission problem?

Mine has been doing it while in sport as well, but I never thought anything of it.

FWIW, my BMW with ZF transmission did the same when in Sport mode as does my Ram 1500 w/ ZF transmission.

My 2010 3.8 genesis coupe with the zf didn’t have any harsh downshifts but it took forever for it to upshift sometimes. Resetting the adaptives took care of that problem when I got too severe.

I drive all my cars like I stole them so I expect to some issues with vehicles with adaptive learning on the shift points. The hard downshifts wouldn’t be too much of a issue if it did it all the time but it’s quite random. When I’m driving quite aggressively I expect it to happen so I brace for it and it usually doesn’t come. But it I’m just poking around town in sport mode and just gently slow down for light that seems to be where you get jerked. It’s quite annoying to be honest. I’ve caught the transmission shifting from 5th gear to 2nd gear in one move and I think that is what is causing the jerk.

Yeah that's my main problem too, it's the inconsistency, sometimes I expect it to downshift and slow down but it never happens and I had to hit the brakes harder :/

I've had this car for 6 weeks now trying to get used to it. I can't take it anymore. Going in tomorrow to a local dealer that gave me an initial offer of more than I paid so I think this is my chance to get out. Such a shame, I like the car but can't take this garbage transmission any longer.

Good luck finding anything to buy. There isn't anything worth buying anywhere in the Phoenix area, or I probably would have already done it by now. I'm praying this new transmission they're going to eventually install is going to do the trick, but I'm thinking it's going to need to be something different than what it already in there. We'll see.

I know, that's the risk. I don't even know what I want - just not another Genesis. I'm in Florida and inventory is also light. My wife is home for a couple weeks around the holidays so I can use hers while I look.

I hope it works out for you. You're the real test lol, if the new transmission doesn't fix it there is no fix...

I’m having an issue with my transmission, started to notice it since the car had about 20000 km on the clock (car now has 52000 km)

the car doesn’t smoothly downshifts during normal soft braking or in stop and go traffic or at a traffic light
The downshifts are very noticeable and that makes the braking experience unpleasant. Especially when I’m braking very softly, the car brakes very soft (brakes) then it suddenly brakes harder (transmission) then brakes softly again (brakes) then harder again (transmission).
this isn’t something that I’ve experienced in any other car.
the closest other car that does that is my 2018 G80 3.8L but it’s much smoother.

<edit>

I have a 2019 G70. Its coming up on 36,000 miles and has always had this problem,. (I'm assuming its not throwing you threw the front window. haha). Rather it brakes harder than you expect, and in line with other posts, is noticeable by others. My wife told me that I used to be such a smooth driver, what happened? I told her, its not me, it's the car. On the bright side, the brakes behave after a short warm up. Its not noticeable after a half mile, but that does include a pair or 30 mph to stops. Im not worried, but it would be nice to know why this happens.

Jetaway

It would be interesting to meet up with another owner that doesn't have this issue and swap TCUs. It takes 2 minutes. When Lozic tunes his TCUs, that 2-1 downshift can be set to different levels of "force" - some of which feel abrupt for sure. I just wonder if it's possible some TCUs are tuned wrong from the factory?

You can swap G70 or Stinger TCUs

Autel has a few in the 800-1000 range that'll work.

How sure are you that these can reset adaptives? and how hard it to reset for someone who doesnt fix cars?
I might just get one of these if they work. They do cost alot but I think you can recoup 85 to 90 % of the cost if you sell it in the future.

also what about MX808 version? there are so many version its hard to figure out which ones is for G70 2019
