  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hyundai Bluelink shutting down service

These car manufacturers just dont care about maintaining customers. In 2012 we bought a New 2012 BMW 535, 2 years later we got a email that BMW Connected services will be discontinued at the end of 2016 because they were using 2G cell service. So look at that, 1991 technology in a 2012 car and 4G started in 2009. I think hyundai bluelink service was overpriced and a waste of money, look at the app selections, a big joke.

I guess it won't be a Caddy, they are having similar issues. On the next forum you can use EXCADDYGENNY
I'm thinking Lincoln although GM doesn't have the same issue with OnStar that Connected Services does and with GM you can still do remote start with a Key Fob. I do like Cadillac's direction with EV's although I'm not ready to go there yet. I really did like the new G80 sedans but this experience along with the XM fiasco have made me done with Genesis.

How did you get to that menu? Is it hidden? It looks like it's some type of android operating system. Is that the lower end non ultimate HU or the Ultimate one? Because it's possible one of them used LTE and the other used 3G?
It's in this post, here - if I recall, it's Setup, Connected Services, Modem.

Post in thread 'Connected Services going away in December 2022' Connected Services going away in December 2022

My car type is in my signature line (I wish everyone did that!).

Yes, different models within a year have different radios and electronics, so it's entirely possible they can have different technology. That's why I asked others in that thread (prior post) to try to determine modern type.

Well, it may be impractical (as in more money than they are willing to spend), but it certainly isn't impossible. Anyway, that is clear indication that they are not going to come up with any hardware upgrades or add-ons.

We all need to complain, because if enough of us do it the brand could be damaged and they don’t want that. Write customer service, car magazines, news outlets to let them know tens of thousands of Hyundai owners won’t buy Hyundai again.

That's like saying "Your electricity is being cutoff end of this month, sorry! "

"Please note that your electricity is embedded in your house, and as such, it will not possible to add or make changes to this feature if it is not compatible or once it is no longer compatible". "We apologize for any frustrations this may cause".... laughing so much .

Designing a vehicle that loses it's features is unacceptable , especially when 3G was introduced 20 years ago, 4G 10 years ago. Amazing.... I guess 2032 we'll get same email about 4G go away with no path to upgrade! I just can't believe what the design engineers were thinking about during 2010-20219 years..

So you can still play your 8 track tapes? You have a cassette player? Yes, they should have switched to 4G long ago but with technology the way it is, some will go away in the future. Keep an eye out for that 2032 email about 4G. It will come and we'll be bitching they did not put in 6G.

I got this response from them. Oh typical customer service. Screen Shot 2022-01-18 at 4.22.53 PM.png

I certainly don't think it would be "impossible" I keep thinking the modem was in the head unit. Come on hyundai. Just give us the option to upgrade the modules, even if we have to pay $300. Let's look back when onstar went from analog to digital. They upgraded the modems. Come on Hyundai, do the same. I need to look more into the design of the bluelink system and see what this upgrade would entail.
Edit: I looked into it and it appears that the modem is in the head unit. Most likely, this modem is soldered to the motherboard in the head unit. This means that they would have to make a completely new head unit with a 4g modem, which I am sure is why they're resisting it. Maybe someone who knows how to solder can try to solder a 4g modem on, but then again that wouldn't work because bluelink would cancel service for those vehicles either way.

It appears that on the 2018 G80, the modem is inside the 8" head unit, but is a separate module with the 9.2" head unit. I don't know if that applies to other years or models.

Are all 2018 G80s using 3g? I wonder if the 8 inch screen used 3g and the 9.2 inch screen used lte, because there was someone who posted on this fourm of their 2019 g80 using LTE. Also, the issue with it being in the head unit as i stated in my recent edit is that the modem is probably soldered to the motherboard in the head unit. This means hyundai would probably have to make an entirely new head unit with a 4g modem. Or, the dealers could just try to solder a new 4g modem on. But that's like trying to upgrade the cpu in a modern laptop that's soldered on.

The 9.2" is definitely 3G only. Perhaps the 8" has LTE?
Having the modem soldered in does not have to be the problem you state. There could have been the option of leaving the 3G modem soldered in (and useless), but adding an external LTE modem by plugging it into the CAN bus or USB or something else.

True, those are other options as well, although a bit clunky. I mean it's much easier for a thief to just pull out a obd ii thing before they take the car than it is for them to sit there and take 10 min to take the head unit out.

I'm not happy that they did not switch to 4G much sooner but yes, technology gets outdated. Do you still use floppy discs? Does your 386 computer do well on the internet?

When 6G is the standard do you thing 4G will still work? We want the latest technology but the older stuff does sunset. Just as the selection of videos for your VCR has diminished, some technology in your car will be outdated.

Really, not my thinking but a fact. Maybe even Bluetooth will be replaced. Put your 8 tracks for sale on eBay.

Floppies and other storage media we're phased out over decades. Hyundai and others placed tech in their cars that would be phased out in less than 2 years. All the while knowing the sunset was literally imminent.

If it's any comfort, my 3G Kindle keyboard service with lifetime free downloads, has also reached the end of its lifetime. RIP

In that case Amazon offered some freebies and a sizeable discount on a new Kindle. Smart move by the world's most customer centric company.

Might have been a great time for a new Genesis pen to go out in the mail.

Genesis sold me a supposedly high end car with technology they knew would die within 3 or 4 years. You seem to think that somehow that compares to VCR's and floppy disks. I just can't understand where your head is at. But you do you. I'm done trying to get you to understand.
