Nav indicates "NO RECEPTION". Can't specify Destination or Waypoint

Driving at about sea level today, my Nav dropped my existing Destination and a Waypoint and indicated "NO RECEPTION". It now won't snap out of that state. It won't track progress on the map. Latitude, longitude and speed are shown as all zeroes. I tried rebooting (turning off ignition and back on to restart Nav) to no avail. Do I have a real problem, or will it resume normal operation when I've gotten sufficiently above sea level? (I've driven in Death Valley at below sea level. Nav quit, with same symptoms, but resumed normal operation when I'd climbed out of the valley.) I'm stopped for the night so can't experiment re elevation until tomorrow, but I have driven over 50 miles in this inoperative state, some at elevations well above 100 feet.

Also, does anyone know what Factory Reset (under Settings--->NAVI Informaton) will do? I wonder if that would help reestablish normal operation.

Sounds like your GPS receiver probably quit on you (hence the zeros for latitude, longitude and speed.) I don't know if the dealer can replace the GPS receiver or has to replace the entire head unit.

Sometimes rebooting right away will not work. Sometimes, the ignition (computers) have to be off for ten or fifteen minutes before the reboot will work. Let us know if everything comes back later today or tomorrow when you start up. Driving at sea level (or even below sea level - Death Valley) should have nothing to do with it.

Thanks for the replies. Still inoperative after an overnight power-off. Stopped at dealer along our travel route; they tried disconnecting/reconnecting battery but without success. Also did the NAV Factory Reset button, but that showed no change. They then contacted tech rep, who says there's a service memo out that recommends trying something I didn't quite get...probably a software update...that might fix the problem, but (their words) might instead make things worse (loss of radio function, etc.). Failing that, a complete unit replacement is the current recommendation, which may cause us a possible over-the-weekend layover in nice country, which doesn't bother us. We'll get the particulars tonight or tomorrow morning.

Final result: the "quick fix" the dealer proposed had no effect. I failed to ask details of that potential fix.

I was yesterday told an entire new unit could be delivered for installation tomorrow, but dealer found today that, because of the build date of my 3.8 (Sept '08), new units would not be available until June 13. I'll be back home by then, so my original-purchase dealer will get the job. I'm hoping the delay in availability means there's something "new and improved" in the when-issued replacement unit. Who knows, maybe it'll come with the most recent data base.

Back on the road tomorrow with good old Rand-McNally.
