In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. Borla vs Magnaflow

Re: Bora vs Magnaflow

@tiresmokindad: I've been doing some research and can't find any dyno info on the magnaflow yet. Another poster on this thread mentioned that there is a drop in HP? But it sounds like its because the cars computer will hold back?

There is a Borla thread that shows there is an actual increase of about 19HP.

Long story short, I'm confused. :-)

As for flowmasters etc...go with either Borla or Magnaflow. I think, personally, flowmasters are more of a muscle car exhaust system.

Can anyone help elaborate on that thread about the drop in power?

As I've mentioned in other threads, I really do not believe a cat-back system will improve power at all. When I've spoke to exhaust shops (multiple shops) ALL of the techs I spoke with stated that the ECU needs to be reprogrammed AND aftermarket headers would need to be done in order to gain performance. Vehicles that are carburated and not computer controlled WILL see a gain in performance. I only bought my MagnaFlow mufflers for the sound and had new tips put on for a different look.

Re: Bora vs Magnaflow

It'll say expect more of this part on x date, but it's been changing for the last 3 months a week before the launch date. Keeps getting pushed back - maybe with more orders, there will be more demand to actually push it into production.

Does anyone else have an order pending? I have one through peddler

@Scottdk: thanks again!

@Dimitry: here is what I received today from peddler.

"I just wanted to give you a heads up that the exhaust kit you purchased is on backorder and has yet to be produced by Magnaflow. The ETA they are showing is for 5/26, but that has been pushed back a couple of times already. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns."

I agree with this, you gotta love that heart thumping exhilarating sound ! And the quad tips :D

I honestly don't believe in power increase only from an exhaust, nor do I care if it's true or not.
The prime reason I buy an aftermarket exhaust is because of the sound.

Ok...so here is my question.

I heard some comments about drone issues with the universal mufflers from magnaflow. Have any of you considered an X-Pipe?

My reasoning behind this is because Borla did this. They will not do a rear section set-up because of the drone issues but they plan to offer the full cat-back with an X-Pipe and say drone issues are mild or no longer exist.

Price wise, I could do the universal magnaflows OR borla's, tips and an x-pipe for a third...or less...than the cat back system potentially offered from Borla.

what are your thoughts guys?

Agreed:) If someone puts a exhaust kit on a car, the car has to breath better not just in the release of exhaust, but also the intake. That's why I think the kit would be much better with a CAI and also headers (and computer reprogrammed.)

It's let's the car breath!:D

The 16497 kit from Magnaflow looks like it comes with an X-Pipe.

At least that is how I read that picture...

Sweet...then that just proves my theory!

The third muffler needs removed and an x-pipe added to remove the drone issues of just a muffler install.

If any of you question the "third muffler" think of it this way starting from the rear of the car.

Tips
Mufflers
Rear Section Flanges (connection)
Third Muffler
Flanges
Cats
and im not too sure after that...headers maybe..

Anywho, I can get this done even cheaper than the Magnaflow cat-back kit.

Here's another tweak. The Custom Exhaust shop I use stands behind their work for as long as you own the car...so in essence, who needs a one-million mile or Lifetime warranty?? Even if the shop closes and I develop an leak...wooptie doo, I'll go to another shop and have them tack it again for $20...or maybe even free if you sweet talk em.

Sorry for the rant...:o Its just that I realize how easily customers are duped in to believing all the jargon and hype about extended warranties. Albeit, some things you NEED the extended warranties.

So for me, here is a breakdown.

Tips: 50
Mufflers: 80 a piece
x-pipe: 50
shop supplies and a few hours labor: 120

The total is: $380

Magnaflow: $800 est.
Borla: $1300 est.

I encourage anyone interested to THINK and spend wisely!;)

Those are just my thoughts.

Hey im the guy that got the BORLA prototype, and it sounds fantastic. It adds a lot of power especially when the esc fuse is pulled. The technology they used is from their ATAK system. they tuned the system specifically to the car and motor. check it out on line its kinda cool.

The car has one CAT, one RESONATOR, one rear MUFFLER per side. The factory exhaust also includes some nifty pinch points on the pipe for clearance issues (front and rear)

I live in southern CA if anyone wants to hear it pm me and ill do my best to meet up with you.
