New System and MAP Update v16 in May

Has anyone tried this? I did this, and it didnt seem to do anything. AA is still not full screen :(
Actually got it working!
So as mentioned before, in AA developer options, choose 720 x 1280. Then in the cars menu, for Phone Projection, choose Android Auto and uncheck "split screen" and voila! it works!

Update: Servers are going through maintenance until May 12 it seems so download will not be available til then...
Funny they say "server maintenance" when that maintenance only affects certain radios. The reality is the servers are fine, they just have botched software.

It tells me "Download for this vehicle is not yet available."

And that's hardly a server issue.
True. That sounds more like the same thing thing is happening with the software that is happening with Genesis service. They probably don't have enough employees to get the job done on time. I'm a retired software engineer, so I can tell you that updatating every version of the Genesis infotainment software with new features is a massive undertaking. Still, it's poor practice to announce that it will be available on a certain date, and then not at least announce a revised schedule if it's going to be late. They did announce that the software for the latest Genesis models would be delayed until May 5, though finding that announcement was not easy. But that date has passed, and there's no information from them about when, or even if, they will update the latest models. That wastes my time having to keep checking to see if the update is available.

I might add that it surprises me that they are updating ALL of the models back to day one. I'm an amateur photographer, and that never happens with high end cameras. The manufacturers will usually update the software a few times until the new model comes out, and then that's it for that camera.

It also surprises me the way that they have done the updates. Updating maps is a different thing than updating software features. Hardware does change with each new model, and that means that the software is different. But maps are just a file. Only the content changes. It would be an easy matter to design the software so that the maps could be updated with a single file that is the same for all cars. But then, that's not the only thing about the car software that doesn't make any sense to me.

I'll give you an example. With Android Auto, you have three parts to the screen. The left two thirds of the screen is basically what AA displays. It can be a menu, maps, or music. The center part just has the name of your phone. That's a waste. The right part can have your choice of things including weather, a compass, a couple of other things, or a map from the car's navigation that includes the speed limit and a digital speedometer. You can flip through them and also select them in setups. I like the map from the car with the included digital speedometer. BUT as soon as you give AA a route, that screen disappears, and you can't select it. The car replaces it with one of the others. It's just not there. When you go back to not having the route, you can again select that screen. There's also a screen that shows you the song that's playing that can be selected in setups, but when you go back to AA, that screen's not available.

I really don't mind the split screen. My wish would be to have the option of leaving the left part of the screen as it is, bascially what AA is displaying, and let you choose what's in the other two smaller areas. I'd probably have the digital speedometer in one and the current song in the other. This would be easy for them to implement. The part of the code that allows you to choose what's on the right could easily also handle doing the same thing in the center of the screen. And having those two screens available sometimes and sometimes not is a bug. There's no logical reason I can think of to do it the way they did it.

I love my Genesis, but the software could be a bit more polished.

Sorry, TL;DR

If you read my posts in this thread, you'd see its back May 12. Stop checking until then ;)
Also yes its a massive undertaking but they had months, and the changes aren't even that big. The update did go through fine if you were one of the early adopters. I was able to update no problem on April 28. Then as it happened last update too, they pulled it not long after for whatever reason.

I downloaded and updated mine on 4/28/2022 and all went fine, or so it seemed. After the successful update process I checked and I still didn't have the updated map and software versions.

Sounds like they need to expand their software test group size.

Look at the picture you posted, and read the version numbers.

They both contain 211202. Those numbers are a date string formatted as YYMMDD. It means that the software you installed was released December 02, 2021. You did not install the new version, you installed the version released last year. That is why you see no difference.

The new version was due out on May 5th, and now that the server is down, will not be out until May 12th.

Nope. I did install GENESIS_GV80_2021_US_15.5 in December of 2021. What I installed on April 28, 2022 was the update I downloaded on April 28th that was supposed to be the latest System and Map update (V16.0) that was available for a couple of days before Genesis pulled it from their site.

Yeah that's probably why they pulled the update. Because of issues with the installation. I was able, however, to download on April 28 and it installed fine.

I didn't have any problem installing the update, it just wasn't the correct update that Genesis provided. Have you looked at the Version Numbers your system is running?

Yes it's the new v15.41 I think or something like that. It definitely updated cause I have all the new features and changes...

Let's try this again.

To start, let's clarify few things. This is the G70 section of the forum. Your profile says you own a GV80. New software began rolling out for G70s a few weeks ago. Then some G80, and G90 models began getting new builds.

You do not own a G70, G80, or G90. You own a GV80.

The screenshots you posted from your vehicle's head unit show that you are running the latest version available for your car. It was release last December. No newer one was ever released for GV80s.

Because G70s got new software, you jumped the gun, and tried installing new software for your GV80 a full week before it was scheduled for release. At that time, the mapnsoft website said that software for the Gen6 premium head units (like the one in your vehicle) would begin rolling out on May 5.

The water was muddied by the fact that part of their software distribution network went offline last week. Updates are still online for Some G80 and G90 models. The server infrastructure for all G70, GV70, and GV80 models and newer G80 and G90 models is currently offline. It looks like they had hardware problems on one or more of their back end servers.

So, you have been posting in a thread for owners who did get new software several weeks ago. When you tried to install new software for you car, you did so one week before new software was scheduled for your vehicle. So you either installed, or re-installed the latest GV80 version which came out last year.

You jumped the gun. No newer software was ever released for your vehicle. You are waiting for them to bring the server back online and then publish a build for your vehicle.

TLDR:

They did not release and then recall any new version of software for your vehicle. You just thought since the G70 folks got a new version, you would got one too. That was what confused you. You tried to install new software on your car one week before it was scheduled to be released.

Thank you for clarifying that. This update has been very confusing. And it's also easy to get further confused if you click on the NEW POSTS link at the top of the forum. You get the new posts for all of the sections of the forums.

You own a G70, new software was available for your car. He owns a GV80, no new software was available for his car.

No updates "got pulled". Part of their server infrastructure went offline. They are repairing it now and expect it be back online May 12th.

This thread does not concern my car but thanks for the most difficult task of trying to unravels all the post made to the wrong thread. Folks seem so anxious to put up a post that they never think to see if it’s in the correct thread. Add to that the confusion because posts never show the name of the forum unless you take the time to scroll to the top of the page wish that could be fixed (along with making the user’s location mandatory).

Nice story but Navigation Updater downloaded V16.0 for the GV80 (Gen 6) on April 28th.

The G70 update is back online earlier than expected. It is now available for download.
