  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I'm new to this forum and have a '23 G70 AWD 3.3T Sport Prestige on the way. It is Verbier White with red leather interior. I have not seen this model (in person) with this particular color combo and I'm thinking it would look sharp with the matte finish...so I have a couple of question:

  • Has anyone seen this combo in person?
  • What are your thoughts on the finish?
  • What is your experience with the matte clear coat?
  • Does the salt seem to collect more than the gloss does? (If you are in snowy areas of course....)

I know with my buddies it's a pretty polarizing reaction with the matte cars and personal tastes...

Thanks!

I don't like matte cars personally, but even if I did, I'd NEVER get one. I know several folks with them, and it's a nightmare to deal with. And matching the paint, in case of an accident, is almost impossible by the majority of the shops (only a specialized one would do a good job). Plus it's so delicate (compared to regular paint) that it should be only used for show cars IMO. If you drive your vehicles, get regular paint. If you want to be a slave of your car, then get the matte paint. Ha ha. Good luck.

I appreciate the feedback. This will be a daily driver so it sounds like the matte finish wouldn't be a good idea, i need something durable. I'm glad i reached out!

I got the 'cheapo' Alta white, which is the only color with no surcharge (dealer chose the illuminated door sills instead). I was disappointed dealer didn't order the allegedly better Uyuni white, which is pearl, I believe. But I actually like it a lot; much better than the pearl white on the 2021 Tesla this car replaced. I like whites, because I can touch them up with a cheap white paint pen. And on non-pearl white like this one, it's almost an exact match. But will wait for the OEM paint pen to touch up the hood/bumper-cover seam, so it's perfect. I also like black wheels for the same reason (touch them up with a black paint pen), and my 2023 SP has them, so great. So you could get either white, and you should be happy with both. I asked how was the Alta white, and nobody ever responded, so I had no feedback. Just assumed it was going to look crappy, but it doesn't. Hope this helps.

I appreciate your feedback. There is an Alta on a lot near me that I have on my list to check out. Thanks!

I have the Melbourne Gray Launch Edition. It is not a nightmare to deal with and I am not a slave to my car.48F24A5D-9176-40CB-87F3-26EE7EDDA7C8.webp

That's pretty much the color a friend of mine has on his near $200K Audi RS6 Avant wagon, and he regrets big time having paid 6 grand for his matte paint option. Scuffs are impossible to buff out, as they become shiny. He had a small accident, and the paint match looked like crap, so ended up selling it. And similar stories with other matte paints. They just don't wear as good as regular paint, and that's a fact. So for a daily, it's simply not recommended.

I absolutely love my car and enjoy maintaining it. It is my daily driver and I haven't had any issues with the exterior. I live in southern Tennessee and there isn't much salt used in the winter so I'm not able to give you any feedback on that question.

If YOU like the look, go for it. Just make sure you research how to properly maintain the exterior. You'll need to hand wash the vehicle and use different soaps, chemicals and coatings. Dr. Beasley's has a solid line of matte care products. I also use their products to maintain my wife's Mazda CX-5. The coatings make washing both vehicles so much easier.

😂

This is a US website, so I just ignored those 2 posting on a foreign language. It's disrespectful, since we don't know what the hell you're talking about.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Not really disrespectful, but they would get a lot more help and comments if it was in English. At least add a translation. :D

Okay:Kalt::Kalt::Kalt:

They should be translating, not me. And to me, it is disrespectful, so I just ignored them; that's what that feature is for. And I also speak another language, and never do that, but to each his own, I guess.

Why is it disrespectful? And to whom?!

Personally, I think it's sehr wunderbar to have participants from other countries. It brings a fresh perspective that we don't always benefit from. I am fortunate ich hat drei jahren Deutsch studiert, so I understood most of it. If not... Google translate is your friend.

Herzlich Wilkommen, Pred-GDR. :)

Oh btw, chalk me up on the not-liking-matte-finish column. I've had matte paint motorcycles and really dislike it. Still have one - 2018 Triumph Street Triple R - with a matte grey finish. Would've have preferred glossy color, but it was a good enough new-to-me deal, so I tolerate it.

On a car... not even a great deal would I buy one. But that's just me. Paint color is a very personal thing. If you dig it, by all means - go for it! It does look great in some angles and under some lighting situations.
