  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Gosh, hope this is it for you. Of course let them know to check and then double check oil level in it, even if they say it comes pre-filled from factory.

Really hoping this fixes the issue for you. A bunch of us have a lot riding on this 😂.

I took mine in for an oil change and asked them to check my rear diff. End result is the ordering of a new one. Will be here in a few weeks, unknown exactly when.

Did they say it was because of what the fluid looked like by chance

They didn't check the oil to my knowledge but they drove it. I have the noise between 56-60 mph. Apparently loud enough for them to diagnose.

Same here - they could hear it...it's actually not that loud but once you realize what it is, you can't un-hear it and it's very distinctive. For me, it's a bit of a high-pitched whine that comes and goes (you hear it when you accelerate gently). They told me "a couple of weeks" to get the part and that they were always on backorder. If you take your vehicle in for any service, it's not a bad idea to get it looked at and get one on order before the mass recalls start! Not sure if this is only on the 2.5T models or not - the 3.5T has had many issues with the eLSD but not sure if the rear diff is an issue as well.

Yep, a high pitched "warble" is the best I can describe it. And I have the 3.5.

We purchased a new 2023 GV70 Prestige Sport. At less than 1200 miles, began hearing the whining noise coming from rear end. Waited 2 weeks for an appointment; took car in & tech could not hear the noise but the noise kept getting louder and more of the whine as we drove it. Waited 2 more weeks for another appointment, and this time the tech did hear the whine and said Yes the rear differential needed replacing. About 4500 miles now and getting louder whine at any speed. Rear dif has been ordered for 3 weeks--told it is backordered. Difficult to get return calls for any updates. Really second guessing the purchase of this car.

My dealership has been really good. I heard it at 1,200 KM (745 miles) on a Tuesday and they came and picked it up from my house on Friday, leaving a GV80 3.5T loaner. Within 3 hours they called me back and said yes, they could hear it and they would order a new diff. They also mentioned they were backordered but have been getting them in 2-3 weeks. They were great in making me feel less stressed, agreed there should be a recall on all GV70 rear diffs - and they would be making that recommendation to Genesis. Finally, they said no big deal - you can drive it and it's safe...when the diff comes in, they said it's only 2-3 hours to replace and they will pick up the car and bring it back, no problem. I'm feeling looked after, so if this is all that happens over the next while, I'm still happy with the vehicle!

Good to hear. Going off on a tangent here but is this appropriate advertising on this forum?? WTH?

update:
Our 3rd diff arrived yesterday and got installed today. All appears good with this one.
Glad this one is holding up so far. But I’m more interested if replacement holds after couple thousand of miles. Original usually is ok for 2-3k miles, then we start hearing noise. So fingers crossed this is permanent fix.
Mine diff replacement should come in couple weeks dealer says, ill for sure triple remind him to check oil level in it.
I’ll keep you all updated.

This differential issue is by far the most troublesome with this car as I'm afraid to buy a used GV due to the differential issues.

How do I know if the used or new vehicle will have diff issue later on? ...I guess if you're buying whether new or used, that you ask the dealer to double check that the differential isn't going bad or already bad.

I guess if I decide to buy used that I should have a pre purchase inspection done by a professional mechanic prior.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Any used car dealer I've ever dealt with would never tell you if there's an issue. :(

The best thing to do is to drive it for at least 20 minutes and then listen carefully - most people notice it at about 70-90 KM/H when gently touching the gas pedal (or using cruise control).

I do believe Genesis will issue a recall, which would cover you on a used vehicle as well. Ensure you get the manufacturer's warranty transferred. I don't think this is a major issue overall. My Kia needed a new engine - that was fully covered by Kia at almost 200,000 KM!

Wow

I’m happy to join the club my friends. I have the same symptoms as you all to the letter.

Genesis dealer ordered me a new rear diff last week and back ordered. Sounds like that won’t be coming any time soon

Dang. This car has been too much of a hassle

Have you had other issues? Or just the whole ordering/waiting debacle?

No other severe issues. Just heard noises for a few thousand miles. Took it in for its first oil change and showed them a large Facebook thread of this issue. They still took 4 days to acknowledge the issue and order a new rear diff.

As of now they say Oct15th delivery but I think that just the furthest guess they have. I called another dealer and they said there’s none available to order in entire US.

I’d rather drive the thing then wait forever for a part. I’m done with this car.

I’ve been waiting for mine since July 7th. Asked for update a couple weeks ago and still on back order, crazy. So far it hasn’t got any worse, just annoying.

It is strange they haven't addressed this on newly built vehicles when they know there is a major problem. Assuming they can actually fix this, I am not concerned with the car. The only concern I have is why they keep building with defective parts. I'm wondering if they really know how to fix this issue...
