  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

GV70 2.5 rear end noise

It is strange they haven't addressed this on newly built vehicles when they know there is a major problem. Assuming they can actually fix this, I am not concerned with the car. The only concern I have is why they keep building with defective parts. I'm wondering if they really know how to fix this issue...

That’s a good question! Maybe they are waiting to recall until they have more parts because so many will be off the road and in for service that’s already backed up ??

Anyone that was waiting for a rear end get any ETA updates? ours is supposed to arrive at the end of this week, but I really don't believe that.

We purchased a new 2023 GV70 Prestige Sport. At less than 1200 miles, began hearing the whining noise coming from rear end. Waited 2 weeks for an appointment; took car in & tech could not hear the noise but the noise kept getting louder and more of the whine as we drove it. Waited 2 more weeks for another appointment, and this time the tech did hear the whine and said Yes the rear differential needed replacing. About 4500 miles now and getting louder whine at any speed. Rear dif has been ordered for 3 weeks--told it is backordered. Difficult to get return calls for any updates. Really second guessing the purchase of this car.
Update: Our replacement part was ordered Sept. 14. Was advised today that part to arrive Oct. 14 with install appointment Oct. 19. Hopefully this new diff. will fix the problem. Was advised that no loaner cars are available. After reading that some others are on their 3rd replacement, we are anxious.

Was told by dealership today to expect our part to arrive Oct 14, and we have install on Oct. 19. We don't know what to believe on ETA as it has been difficult to get any response.

Uh Oh - I've started noticing a light hum from the rear between 45-55mph. I think I might be in the same boat as yall.

yeah it is pretty clear the same issue if - when you let off the pedal entirely the noise stops. Only happens to me when you are touching the pedal enough to maintain speed. Nothing when accelerating at over 25% pedal effort.

Seems like clock work above 50mph only. Nearly right to the mph

Yup, same though I noticed it even below 30 mph occasionally. I honestly believe they will have to replace this part on most vehicles. I just hope the replacement is a fix and not just a shot in the dark to see if the issue only occurs in 30% or something...

I had this diagnosed on Sept 30 and the part was ordered that day. The ETA on the replacement part is Oct 31. We will see if it will be a trick or a treat!

My differential finally came in and I’m scheduled to have it replaced tomorrow. Fingers crossed!

Let us all know how it went.
Mine should be here this month sometime..

How long did it take to get the part in?

we had to have 2 new diffs installed in a 6 week period, the first diff we waited about 2 weeks (got lucky and the GV70 was still drivable) the second one, we waited a little over 5 weeks with the GV70 stuck at the dealer because the first new one lasted about 5 miles.

That’s crazy. I sure hope this one lasts.

Dropped her off this morning for surgery. They gave me a 23 G70 loaner.

We took ours to the dealer to have it looked at on Monday. They told me this morning that a new differential had been ordered...probably a week or two to get it. The dealer gave us a new G70 to use in the meantime.

Haha that’s exactly what our dealer gave us. Not a big fan of that car.

Good luck!

I got 2023 G80 when they took mine for diagnose, couple months ago. I didn't like it that much, glad I settled on GV70 at the time of purchase. I was debating G80..

The whine on our GV70 2.5 has gotten worse over the last few months. 5k miles. But ours seems different that those of you posting here as I can “play” the sound like an instrument using the gas pedal. Instant sound when pressing the gas, goes away off throttle. No sound when coasting in a high gear, but sound is there under significant engine braking.
Sound persists when holding speed with throttle.

I’m an automotive engineer and it’s obviously a rear end driveline issue and unless something is dragging on a rotating component, I fear it’s likely a diff. Haven’t researched the design of the GV70’s rear end to know much about it. Dad’s car, going to take it in this week.

That's what it sounds like, yes. My dealership has repeatedly requested Genesis Canada to issue a recall, which they are considering. I'm just not sure how many are affected by the rear diff issue (mine is), if they know which ones are affected and if they have a real fix for it. They might just be throwing parts at it and hope the failure rate is low enough that replacing it with the same part might be successful. That worries me a bit because there's a good chance it will happen again - like when the warranty expires.

I would get the vehicle in sooner than later so you can get in the queue to order a replacement part before a recall gets issued - then it will be very hard to get replacement parts, I would think. The ETA for mine is about a month to get the part.
