I am having a terrible time with the Navigation System. I have the Genesis 3.6 and the car if fine. However, I have two problems with the Navigation System.

1. I have not found a way to stop the system from giving me directions when I want to cancel it for one reason or another.

2. When entering a location to drive to, it come up with the "State" which is OK and then the "street". It completely skips the "city". I inserted VA for the state and I was trying to insert "North Fairfax Drive" in the city of Alexandria today and finally, gave up because these streets or the city of Alexandria never came up.

I hope there is a fix for these issues:

the navi system is my biggest frustration on the Genesis!
It is IMPOSSIBLE to find the street you what to drive to. I have tried it so many times, and have not been able to find my destination ONCE! My android phone is better! I'm embarrassed to even think about putting my Nuvi in the car...
In addition, the damn map is OLD.
How could Hyundai put such a sh1tty component into such a nice car?

The Nav system in the Genesis is a little cumbersome and a lot of discussion has taken place about it. I'm assuming you have the "Tech" package?

...anyway, to cancel your directions for "one reason or another" you need to dig deep into the menu. I really wish there was an easier step but there isn't. You need to hit the "Navi/Menu" button and go to "Change Route". Once you click that you'll see "Delete All". Then hit "Yes".

Sorry, I'm going off of memory and not sitting in my car at the moment but it is along those lines... You'll see it if you follow my steps. I hope I didn't miss anything.

The biggest gripe most have is with entering the street first. The only way to resolve this, is to use "Voice Command". Hit the speak button on the steering wheel and say, "Enter Address".

Once you say "Enter Address" wait for the beep and follow the prompts by the nice lady. She'll ask for, State/Town/Street/Number. Sometimes this is easier but sometimes it messes up. Give it a try...

Actually, there's a pretty easy way to cancel Navigation if you have the tech package with DIS. Press down on the DIS knob while on the map screen. From the menu that pops up, "suspend route guidance" is already pre-selected so you just have to press down on the knob again. Admittedly not the most intuitive thing if you don't know that menu is there, but once you know it's quick and easy. I believe somebody also mentioned in one thread that "suspend guidance" works as a voice command, as well.

As for entering addresses, yeah it's definitely a PITA. The problem is when you don't know the exact street name and there are several dozen slightly different variations. What's worse, it doesn't tell you which city each one is in until _after_ you selected it. I understand maybe they were thinking that if you select the wrong city (street is just outside the limits, for example) it could cause some confusion. But I'm more often likely to know the exact city name than the exact street name, so being able to pre-select the city would narrow it down quite a bit. It would even be nice if they allowed you to enter zip-code. (And it's also be nice if the POI database had more phone numbers in it).

Try being a little flexible and the system is not a major problem especially withthe Tech Package.

I find it exceptionally easy to use.

The only PITA is changing states but when all said and done even that isn't that big of an issue

The "Suspend Route" is a great feature. I use it a lot when I have a general idea of where I'm going and don't need the all the directions from the Nav. But it only does what it says it does; suspend guidance.

If you want to completely delete the destination you have to do what I mentioned above. You can not enter another address until you complete the destination, or delete it.

I can pretty much navigate all the menus blind now. When I first started to use it, there was a slight learning curve.

As an example, enter Lincoln as the street, you will get more than 3 pages of choices, choose the wrong one, and you will be back to entering Lincoln again. There is no back function to bring you back to the list of streets.

I've owned my Genesis Tech for 18 months now. At first, the DIS was a bear to learn, however after a few months, I got to be pritty good at using it. Now, after 18 months, and four long trips, plus adding address for short trips, I have "almost" gotten to be "expert" at using the Navi and the DIS in general.

Although I could use voice commands, I never do, because I can't remember the commands. About the only voice command I ever use is when I phone someone who's name is in the DIS, I just say "Call Xxxxx". For other calls, I just bring it up on my cell phone, vice taking the time to dial it up on the screen. Oh yea, I almost forgot, the only other voice command I ever use is (when I am on a screen other than the XM screen but listening to XM) I will say "Channel Xx" and the radio goes direct to that channel.

In other words, I find that after 18 months, (and after first finding the DIS very hard to learn) I now find the DIS easy. (Anything is easy "when you know how" ,<grin>).

I am 69 years old and found the DIS sytem to be a snap to learn and understand. Moving the knob was extremely intuitive if you thought of it as a mouse. Even my computer challenged wife got the hang of it within 1/2 hours.

It is much simplier to use than those on Lexus/Toyota, Mercedes, etc. Certainly easier than the BMW I-Drive (which I admit they have made more user friendly).

Are there faults probably yes but is it really that critical to enjoying the car??

If I understand the prior 6 or 7 comments correctly, none of you have a problem with the system understanding the city or street names on the first try. I'm happy for all of you, wish I had the same results. I'm very envious that you can do the navigation as you drive down the road.

Do you have denchers or something? Maybe take them out and give it another try?

I agree you can just say "Enter Address". The point is by using voice command you get the city entered first before street to eliminate duplicate street names. By the way, if you start off with address you also have to enter state every time. If you start with city, it defaults to the state previously entered and state is not required.
