  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

GV70 2.5 rear end noise

for what its worth, I follow most major brands forums and from what I see, there really isnt a manufacturer out there not having issues with new models. Genesis isnt the only one.

You are right regarding all dealers having issue with new models and replacing parts on new models.

A co-worker of mine purchase the new Acura RDX and was rear ended at a stop light week after purchase.

Well 9 months later she is still waiting on parts for repairs since that accident. They gave her loaner for 30 days and has since requested it back. Her insurance paid for the next 30 days of a rental but won't pay for anything after.

She is now without a car due it still being at the dealership for repairs while still having to pay 6 months of a car note for vehicle she drove a week.

Most if not all dealers are either backlogged for parts or overwhelmed with repairs due to those parts.

Sucks to buy a car right now.

Dealership confirmed today - rear differential is faulty and needs to be replaced.

Curious if anyone is having this and if we should take it in.
Our gv70 is 2 months old with 2k miles currently. We have noticed if you are barely touching the gas pedal to Maintain a steady mph there is a very slight whine from the rear end. Once you give it slightly more gas it goes away. Same happens when letting off the gas, if you ready to brake and slowly let off the gas at the moment of neither acceleration or coasting the whine appears again until you either give more gas or take your foot off the gas pedal completely.
I have read the gv80 is having this issue and it’s the rear diff.
Thoughts? Or is anyone having this issue? We have the 2.5

I am having the issue on my 2022 GV70 (20000 miles) and Genesis is replacing the rear differential. They have not been forthcoming with whether the replacement is a different or better design revision.

Up here in Canada they said it’s easy to diagnose but they have no information to suggest that the replacement part has been redesigned or improved in any way.

As an automotive engineer myself, unless this was a known risk during development, there probably isn’t quite enough evidence yet to clearly determine root cause and put money towards implementing an effective corrective action plan.

I think it might be promising that they have noted there is a new part number for the rear diff, so I will pretend that means it is fixed. ;) Don't burst my bubble!

A new P/N is a good sign. Let's hope for the best. There are so many other things to like about the design of this vehicle!

Thanks for that info. Hoping to see a p/n or revision change made apparent to give us some hope of a purposeful improvement being made.

Hi JT, Where in Canada are you? I'm having mine looked at in around early mid Nov. I told them the issue and that many owners are experiencing similar problems that I've learned on this forum. She didn't seem to care and just took down my points (presumably) and wait for my loaner and they'll look at it in service. I was wondering if you had any issue or push back from Genesis service. I'm in the GTA and the dealer is in Brampton. I'll reserve judgment until after they look at it. Just concerned their sales and service is not up to par.

Update: Well, Oct 14, Oct 19 came and went and no dif received. Now told part expected for Oct. 29 with an install date of Nov. 1. Will post if received/installed.
Update: No surprises--Nov. 1 came & went; again the diff did not arrive as told but neither did they call us to let us know; we happened to call them to check the day prior to our appointment. Customers' own schedules do not seem to be a considered nor having to drive an hour one way to the dealership.
So, they added another date for arrival of Nov. 4 with install on Nov. 7. Said the diff was on a truck from Connecticut. Hopefully this date will hold. So frustrating; seems like communications with parts, service, and logistics is lacking coordination.

Apologies if this was answered already in one of the 10 pages on this thread. I've got the rear whine so I'm sure it's the rear diff or transfer case.

Anyone know if this something I need to take in to get fixed immediately? Or can I continue to drive with it for the short term and have them address it when i bring it in for my first service in Q1 '23? What have your service centers had to say about how critical this issue is?

I'd prefer to just live with it for a bit longer and pump up the radio volume if it's not pressing.

I’ve been choosing to do the same thing and just monitor to see if it gets considerably worse. So far it has been somewhat consistent. My process is that I believe it can wait unless it gets worse and it gives them time to fully investigate a design change. Also a little lazy and would rather only bring it in once

While I believe it's something that doesn't need urgent attention, I'd recommend bringing the car in to have it diagnosed by the dealer and getting the process started.

The part is back ordered and most of us have been waiting months for it.

Yup, I’ve been waiting 3 months, scheduled for Monday, update to come…
If at some point Genesis chooses to do recall - good luck to you to get parts then. This looks like mass problem for GV70, it’s not like a few only…

I only had to wait about a month - my appointment is next Wednesday (for the rear diff) - this is in Canada.

2023 2.5T prestige, 3 months old and less then 1500 miles and experiencing the same issue (the noise started almost immediately). I just emailed my dealer so will see what they say.

Just got car from service. First day and no issue, sound is gone. Really hope this will last…

this happened to us every week for 6 weeks before one actually got sent to our dealer

Our dif finally arrived, with prescheduled install this past Monday--now it's end of day on Thursday and still no car and no loaner available and no return call on status. Hopefully we can get it tomorrow and it will be all good. Bottom line--been dealing with noise since new, with 10 wks for dif order arrival, and a week of installing so far. Keeping hope that it will be done right and no more rear whine.
