If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Oil level/pressure light going on and off

I have a Genesis G80 2017 and my light is doing the same thing. Ugh
I also have a 2017 G80, mine started today around 66K miles. I just had my oil changed to, thought they messed up. But apparently not!

Odd that a couple of these low pressure issues come up right after an oil change. Good chance the shop put in a lighter weight oil than called for.

So I had my car in at my local garage (whom I trust) for some other regular maintenance this week and asked for a quote for a replacement of the oil pressure sensor and spark plugs since they gotta go deep in and they're due for replacement too. All in they quoted me $937 including getting the sensor and new intake manifold gaskets direct from Hyundai. My budget is tight this month since I just pre-paid for some vacation stuff, but I'm planning to get it done next month. They also said the sensor is on backorder and will probably take a week or 2 to get.
To close the loop on my tale, I did have it replaced a couple months ago and no more warning light. I do think the extreme cold causes these sensors to fail once they get a bit older despite being deep in the heart of the engine (where it is hot once warmed up). The guys at my shop said they replaced a bunch of these oil pressure sensors this past winter on all different makes and models and mine started acting up in February when we had some zero degree mornings.

I had the same experience in my Cadillac Escalade. Dealer wanted nearly $1k to repair. Indy shop wanted about $600. New sensor was $50 on Amazon. Bought it myself and searched for a how to video on YouTube. It was a behind the manifold and not easy to reach. Took me several hours when it should have taken about 45 minutes.
So for $50, some bruised knuckles and several hours I swapped it out. The filter that covers the sensor can get oil on it and cause it to fail.

This exact issue has cropped up on our 2015 Genesis sedan, on the first cold day of the fall the oil light started coming on when stopped at a light and going off when moving. The oil level was slightly low and there was a small leak around the front of the engine so I topped it up but still had the issue.

I will probably try replacing the sensor myself to see if the issue goes away, since the Korean video seems to be understandable enough to follow with auto translate turned on.

What is messing with my head is that I have never had an oil sensor/switch go bad in my life and just had one fail that I replaced last week on my Tahoe. It sounds nuts but I'm wondering if its some kind of additive in the oil that I used. I used either Costco or Mobil1 5W-30 in both vehicles. (Can't remember which but definitely from Costco).

I’d replace the sensor first and see what happens? If you had the ability to temporarily install an old fashion mechanical pressure gage just to validate oil pressure that would be good info to know and confirm your oil pressure is not dropping too low at idle. If replacement sensors are not too expensive stick with that first to see what happens? I have heard of sensors getting old and tired and reading too low before.

Yes I would rather check the oil pressure first by hooking up a gauge. I always hate to throw parts at a problem without confirming the diagnosis.

Is there any way you know of to easily hook it up though? It seems like too much work to remove the intake manifold twice to put it in the sensor hole. I heard somewhere that the oil temp sensor area from the CVVT might be an option, but I'm not really sure. I'm new to working on these.

I have a 2015 and mine started after an recent oil change at 83k. Hopefully my extended warranty covers it!?

Did your warranty end up covering it? Mine just began too at 77403 miles.

Any developments ANYONE?
My low oil pressure light just started coming on as well.... at first morning cold start but only when the outside temp is below freezing (I park outside). It will come on at a stop light but turn off when you hit the gas. At first I thought it was dirty oil as I was at 7500 miles on the oil. I changed the oil last week and it just happened again this morning. WHAT THE HELL is this car a lemon or what? I bought my 2015 3.8 AWD sedan with 63K last August 2021 and made it though last winter without this issues so I am suspecting the oil pressure gauge as well. My friend whos a mechanic said he had this issue on his VW and he had to run an OEM filter and 0W-20 oil in the winter. I think I'll take it in as its under warranty until 100K miles and shes at 95 IK now

Here is my recent post I uploaded.

I contacted Hyundai Motor America & they're not willing to recall in U.S. who should we file for this matter. Our cars are made in Korea at Ulsan Facility.

My Gen started after 70k. when I brought to the dealer for emergency, they were aware of the issue & notify me it was under 5yr 60,000miles. Cost me almost $500 - $800. After serching through the internet, I found out it was already recalled in Korea. Please send an email to Hyundai Consumer Assistance Center to remind them about the issues we are having.

My car is at the dealership for the same problem. This started to occur at 70K miles.
I'm told that this won't be covered under the 10-year/100,000 mileage warranty because this is an electrical sensor not a mechanical part.
This will cost me $950. This is a complete BS that it won't be covered under the warranty.

I was told the part only cost $20 to $50 max, it's the labor that cost over $500 to $800 You should contact Hyundai America to remind them about Korean genesis model being recalled since 2018 & Save the receipt in case they recall the sensor.

translate to English for better understanding.

Same issue here. $900 for AAA shop to replace the sensor. Took them all day and a special socket tool to remove the old sensor unit and install the new one. No way for them to test pressure manually due to the location of the sensor (deep inside the engine). Bad design. Last Hyundai for me.

That sensor location is definitely not unique to Hyundai. Neither is the special socket needed to remove it. Instead removing part of the engine block, I used socket extenders, located and removed it by touch. Wasn't easy, but it wasn't an all day job. And I'm not a mechanic, just refused to pay $900 for someone to install a $50 part. This was on a Cadillac though.

I have been driving the car since the sensor popped up. Now I'm so used to it, It shows & disappear in few mins. I'm very disappointed how Hyundai America is distinguishing Korean gen & US gen. This will be my last Hyundai too.

I wanted to reply. I am going through this now. My 18 G80 Sport with 73k miles had the same behaviors. Took it to my local Genesis dealership. I have Assurant for my extended warranty coverage. They covered it 100% and all I’m getting charged is the $100 deductible. For those asking if extended warranty companies cover it, here is evidence that at least one does.

Hello, CLS 10378, is this for extended warranty buyer only? or am I eligible? there are so many Gen Owner having the same issue. I have seen who spend $900 to fix, while korean owners repaired for free of charge under recall.
