  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Connected Services going away in December 2022

Notice the question mark regarding the refund...no added drama. Check this out...I don't want a refund, I want the car I bought to work for over 6 years...not too much to ask. Offer an upgrade at the very least. Then when I contacted customer care they give me a bs option to upgrade software when they fully know this will not fix the issue.
Just seriously dissatisfied with Hyundai and Genesis. My car has the full "tech" option and they put a 3g radio to what...save money.
Has nothing to do with money. When LTE came out the 3G head unit was already designed and production started. The head units are outsourced to companies like LG, Harmon, etc. At the time they probably had no idea that 3G was going to be phased out end of this year. Blame Verizon, ATT, etc. Other car makers have the same problem.

Do you still have some 8 track tapes? Maybe you can transfer them to 5 1/4" floppies so you can listen to them.

I actually have more than one 8 track player...still works unlike my 21st century vehicle tech! And BTW in 2011 they knew 3g was going to sunset ...and LTE was available then so it isn't the cell phone companies its the builder of the vehicle that needs to pay attention and not sell tech that is behind the curve. My car is a 2016 ultimate with a shitty 3g radio. 3g was cheaper than LTE...they were cutting corners. So much for "ultimate".

You car has the full tech option and that was new 6-7 years ago. Should those who have cars using cassette tapes and 8 tracks be entitled to upgrade whatever the cost?
The feasibly and cost of upgrading have been rehashed here many times over.
you want the car you bought to work after over 6 years and I want a pony for Christmas. Both our wishes are fantasy.

In 2011 most all designs for the 2015 model year were finalized. That is the way the auto industry works. LTE will sunset at some point too. We all want the latest technology but the old stuff will be obsolete as we do. Did they know at the time when it would be gone?

I would add that in 2011, which flavor of LTE would be in wide spread use in 2023 was not known. We don't do anything with cars, but we did design and produce some cellular modems for our equipment, and Ed is right about long design cycle times. (Ours are shorter, one to two years, but still...)

Well I guess I need to forgive all the car makers then? Since it is not their fault they're not offering an upgrade path. Some of you guys sound like PR for the auto makers industry - or you are trying to help me understand that this is why we can't have nice things...well I am still mad about but I will stop complaining and go back 20 years when technical design did not age out within 6 years. Maybe I have misunderstood what this forum is really about.

8 tracks are 50 some years old and so is your comparison - but I can send you a pony if that helps!

They do offer an upgrade path. It is the same one used for cell phones and computers.

OK, so you did not like my 8 track comparison. My BlackBerry is not able to us AndroidAuto.

I do think all car manufacturers should consider this. I mean, in the scheme of things the Cellular Hardware is actually quite small and simple, and - if designed this way to begin with - could allow for an upgraded cellular connection to work with older hardware.

This is actually not THAT hard to do. The cell phone makers don't do this because in practice by the time the cellular radio is out of date, the phone is out of support.

That is because of 2 different manufacturers and would not have anything to do with older technology. A new Android wouldn't be able to use CarPlay either. Being an a--hole is childish....

Gosh, I'm blushing. Thanks for the compliment.

As for two different manufacturers, three are involved with the service going away. Verizon, Genesis, and whoever made the head unit. Could be LG or Harmon.

I have seen quite a few posts that indicate nothing in the car is affected without connected services. This is mostly accurate, but with several exceptions that I wanted to point out with possible workarounds to help all that are navigating this issue.

The car's more advanced voice recognition appears to be tied in with connected services. Therefore, the car's built-in SMS voice to text recognition to respond to text messages while driving is disabled (or requests to call someone from your contacts). Additionally, the voice recognition to provide voice commands to the built in navigation also do not work without connected services. Essentially, some of the more advanced voice controls cease to operate without connected services.

The workaround is to use Android Auto or Car Play. I am using the Motorola wireless solution with Android Auto to automatically connect to the car wirelessly and it seems to work well. This is more convenient to plugging in your phone each time and you will find the voice responsiveness to be better than the built-in car capabilities anyway. You can long press the talk button on the steering column to invoke your Siri or Google assistant to sent SMS, set navigation (with or without addresses), etc. regardless if you have the screen up or on any other page on your screen.

Incidently, I am paying around $500 to $600 to get the remote car starter installed that includes setting the rear defrost and front seat warmers via mobile app or three press on the OEM remote. I am losing several features and gaining a few. Not the best, but I estimate a break even solution to what the car offered from the factory. Your mileage may vary.

Hi, Wondering what is Motorola Wireless Solutions? I would love not to have to plug my phone into the car to use Android Auto.

Here it is, 12/31 and I can no longer remote start/ lock my car. I got an email just now from Genesis saying how sorry they were that I was breaking up with them and CANCELLING my subscription to remote services. I didn’t cancel, you suck for not coming up with a solution! I have a pending $1.00 charge on my Amex for next months subscription fee. That charge better not flip to the regular charge and go through! This sucks!

It worked for me just now. I do not expect it to work after midnight though.

We knew that months ago. Do a search and you will find a couple of threads loaded with rants but there is no solution.

I just did a remote lock at 2am MST and it worked.

I knew as well. Just wanted one last vent. I thought it was funny that they sent me an email expressing sadness that I was terminating my connected services account.

I've been without genesis connected services for months now and haven't missed it.

The solution is an aftermarket remote starter or newer car.

Anyone get the email this morning saying Genesis Connected Services is being discontinued this December due to Verizon dropping 3g network coverage? Guess I'll start exploring remote start options. I will miss the monthly vehicle reports though.

I had no problem, nor did others. I have a CompuStar remote. Works well.
