  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

My dealership told me they were surprised there wasn’t a Class Action Lawsuit against Genesis for Connected Care Services.

Does anyone know how to go about getting a class action lawsuit started? There has to be thousands of us with the same issues.

Let’s do our due diligence as a group in finding a legal resolution. You can count me in!

The ones you should be going after is the mobile carriers. They're the ones responsible for this issue. Sure, they need to decommission old equipment but why can't the new 5G equipment they're installing be backwards compatible?

I mean, working in IT, I upgrade wireless access points all the time so that newer devices can get the most out of their hardware but the equipment I install is backwards compatible all the way back to 802.11b so that older devices can still connect.

There is one:

Tamburo, et al. v. Hyundai Motor America (Corp.), et al., Case No. 1:23-cv-00282

Great, some lawyers will make a lot of money. Last one I was in was ATT and I got a check for 25 cents. When this pays out four years from now between the two I may have enough money to buy a candy bar.

Because the 3G spectrum is now being used for other purposes. That was the main point of turning it off.

It's all brands not just Hyundai - isn't the government responsible for shutting down 3G?

You can't control the advancement of modern technology. But can you go after a company who is clueless about service and makes promises they generally can't keep? I was told right from the Genesis site that my car was not affected by the 3G shutdown. So, if Genesis ever announces they were wrong to lead on how ever many 2017-2019 users there are (what maybe 200? lol), then is there a lawsuit?

I don’t know about years 2017 and 2018 but all 2019 G90s. Are not supposed be effected by the 3G shutdown. You can call Connected Services for verification.

Take a look.GENESIS WIRELESS SUNSET APPROVAL.webp

I don't buy the idea that 3G is the problem. How in the "h..." does Genesis Corporate get the odometer reading from my car each month? If 3G were the problem then both send and receive would not function. Our '17-'19 G90's have 4G.

We need someone to describe the data flow. I've only used the "Google mirror button" once several months ago and it worked that time. I usually use the CS app on my Android phone to send instructions to my car. My guess is that I'm sending an encoded text message via 4G to an "answering" machine/device setup by Genesis/Hyundai which interprets the encoded text message and then sends instruction to my G90 via 4G.

I'll bet there is nothing wrong with our cars, 4G, phone apps, or mirror button. But the problem is at corporate end of data flow - either faulty hardware or programming!

Class actions are a royal joke. The only beneficiary is the group of lawyers.

Please do not dismiss a Class Action Lawsuit. Genesis sold us a system that no longer functions. They should replace all the in car units or solvevthe problem at their end . Whatever it takes. Mercedes-Benz have just modified 1000's of diesel automobiles with over $10,000 in parts and at least 12.5 hours labor.Mine is a 2013 model and part of the class Action lawsuit, I also received a $3,600 check as compensation. I am not a lawyer but there are Lawyers who specialize in such cases.
The Mercedes-Benz situation related to emissions, but it does not matter. If you purchaser a product that does not function as intended, the seller and / or manufacturer needs to make it right.

Oh, it matters, a lot. If you don't meet emissions standards the US Goverment will be on your ass to do something. They did not do this becuse they like you.

I think Genesis (or their supplier) should have upgraded to 4G sooner but they are not the ones that shut down 3G. A lot of people still have 8 track tapes and they have been left behind too.

Documentation relating to our 2018 G90 indicates it is not subject to the 3G shutdown. The unit in our car indicates LTE (4G)
The issue is we were sold a system that does not function. We should not be looking for reasons to not hold the Seller, and / or Manufacturer responsible

Gentleman............. I am a Telecom Industry person and a G90 owner...... the problem is not just with your cars, it is a industry update and issue. All 3G is being disbanded by Verizon and they did do it with 'some' warning. Cars, 3G phones, security systems, camera's etc. were all effected by this update. Just to assist those on 'backward' capabilities, there is much more to this than 'software'. The hardware needs to be able to 'receive' the signals from the cell towers. To simply explain it, it is like AM and Digital AM radio. Not the same. The radio's on the Verizon towers are being changed out and as they have done so, there is no longer the proper signal. Where to point the finger??? Not sure if Genesis was on board with this update or not. If they were aware of this, they should provide the hardware for those effected or at least a significant discount to due so. NOTE: If you have a SimpliSafe Security System in you home, they did a hardware update at the end of 2022. Cost = $0.00.

Please also note, some older GM, GMC, Caddy's, Ford's, etc. have the same problem and cannot be updated. Cars are still on road but, do not have all the wireless features.

Thank You for your input. I agree with you 100%

Thing with Mercedes is they sold you a car that never worked right from day one. Genesis sold a car that worked perfectly fine til someone else came along and screwed something up.

It doesn’t matter. Many people here are thinking it’s a 3G problem. My car has 4G and the problems are numerous. Not getting a signal is only one of them.

If you have a G90 as I do, Genesis did a update starting in January 2023. They slowly migrated it to the cars over the last 2 months. If you have not done a complete update and restart to your system, your 4G system will have problems. If you need help, contact Genesis. (You will have to start by pushing the 'map key' and 'set up key' at the same time and follow a process to fully update and restart your system. You will also have to shut down and restart your mobile app and desktop as well. Just as a little more direction. Hope this is a fix to your complaint.)

Has anyone with a 2017-2022 G90 documented that their car has a 3G system?

Most of the discussion has been about 3G, but the G90's are all supposed to be 4G! And as I have said in many posts, Connected Services is getting odometer data from my '17 G90 each month. This means that Connected Services is COMMUNICATING with my car and the ONLY way that data gets transferred is via 4G!

My Mercedes worked great for 115,000 miles. At that point it was determined by someone other than me that different technology was needed. The pressure of a Class Action lawsuit resulted in not only modifying the design but awarding all of the owners considerable cash for their inconvenience .
My 2018 G90 has a 4G modem. Genesis say its should work, but it does not. Their Engineers need to come up with an answer. Perhaps management think if they wait long enough the problem will be forgotten.
