  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

There have been rumors swirling of a G70 refresh- and we have the official confirmation now of such a refresh occurring through Korean dealer documents, though the changes are fairly minor and Genesis does not refer to it as a "facelift" like the current iteration but a "product enhancement."

Google translate gives the basic gist of the changes:
Following the launch of the G70 PE2 (Second Productivity Improvement Model Sedan & Shooting Brake), discontinuation of the current model of the G70 F/L (JU) is announced as follows, so please prepare for customer communication and conversion. In addition, in the case of the current model of the G70 F/L, if immediate shipment is desired within May, it will be included in the discontinued volume and will be produced and delivered with the highest priority. Please actively guide prospective customers.
1. Discontinued model: G70 F/L (JU) Sedan & Shooting Brake
2. Reason for discontinuation: G70 PE2 Sedan & Shooting Brake planned for mass production
3. Response to customer classification production
→If the scheduled delivery date is reflected as of the end of April, the current model can be shipped
4. Conversion Guide
4.1 Estimated schedule: 2nd week of May (separate notice later)
4.2 Target: Contracts that do not reflect the expected delivery date in the 1st week of May and PE standby sales code contracts
4.3 Order Integrity: '23. Based on the deadline of 3/10 (Fri), the allocation request date is reflected, and new contracts after discontinuation notice are reflected in the latest allocation request date. 4.4. G70 PE2 (new model) standby sales code
-Sedan: JUJS4TNA1 A08 SMT ST1 (regardless of shipping center)
-Shooting Break: JUJH5U6T2 A08 SMT ST1 (Regardless of shipping center) The code above is a sales code that is a cumulative contract/request/production result. (If there is a customer who actually wants to purchase with the specification, a separate request from the person in charge is required.

5. G70 PE2 product information
※ Same as Sedan & Shooting Brake
5.1 Exterior change: No design change, new color and wheel type added, dual muffler basic, hood new Genesis logo applied
5.2 Interior change: new Genesis logo & smart key (same as GV60), touch-type air conditioning panel, frameless room mirror ( ECM), etc.
5.3 Engine change: 2.0T engine replaced discontinued 2.5T engine
① Sedan Existing: 2.0T & 3.3T 2 types Changed: 2.5T & 3.3T 2 types ② Shooting brake Existing: 2.0T 1 type Changed: 2.5T 1 type
(I left out the last bit about the package changes because that only applies to the South Korean market)

TLDR; the notable changes will be the replacement of the 2.0T with the 2.5T engine like the late Stinger, a new touch-control HVAC system (and possibly infotainment), and a frameless rearview mirror and smart key from the GV60. However, the rest of the car will remain the same, so the exterior and driving dynamics will remain unchanged, which explains why there have been no spyshots. The 3.3T will still be used instead of the new 3.5T, likely because the G70 is too old of a platform to fit it in.

Because Genesis isn't calling this a "facelift" I have no idea how long it will run before it gets a complete redesign, which will be an EV. A standard facelift would be 3 years, but I wouldn't be surprised that it will be less for this because the changes are so minor.

Boooo. I was hoping for more but understand why they are just tweaking it.

That's why I don't think it has much longer left before it's replaced. Since it's already coming out in South Korea this May, then it still has a couple years left for the standard 6 year life cycle. Meaning we're still on track to get the EV replacement for the 2025 MY.

Yeah, that's possible. I wonder if it'll be it's own platform or based on the ioniq6?

It's practically guaranteed to be on the E-GMP platform like the Ioniq 6, same with whatever the Kia Stinger EV replacement will be. I just hope it retains its classic long hood RWD proportions instead of becoming a blob like the Hyundai.

The G70 went into production in 2017, so it will already have hit the 6 lifecycle threshold (most HMG products are on a 5 yr lifecycle, w/ the F/L coming after yr 3).

At the earliest, we would get this as a '24MY,, so counting a 2 yr run, the EV replacement would be a '26MY and not before.

Not necessarily. It'll be be in production before the middle of the year, so it may very well still be considered a MY 2023 vehicle internally- the dealer notes say nothing about this being a MY 2024 vehicle. And it'll be counted as MY 2024 in the U.S., which came out as MY 2019, meaning it'll end its run here at MY 2025 after 6 full years with the EV being released in MY 2026. And the U.S. is always one model year behind South Korea.

Additionally, it's not unheard of for a vehicle to enter production the same year as its model year- see the Ioniq 5 which came out in March 2021 for the 2021 MY in South Korea. So a G70 EV could be released exactly two years from now and it would still be considered a 2025 MY in Korea.

The g70 is pretty high up on the list to replace my 2019 civic. Was hoping for more details by now but hopefully we get:
  • Digital cluster instead of the half digital thing. The current cluster does not belong in a 50k car
  • Intuitive implementation of the touch screen HVAC controls. I don't mind touch controls as long as the temperature and seat heating / ventilation is easy to change
  • Same available options on the 2.5t as 3.3t
  • Shooting wagon in the US would be sweet. 0 chance of happening though
  • Same (or lower) price as last year and much better availability

I was a little disappointed my '23 G70 didn't have the 2.5T, like the 'lesser' Stinger. The main reason for that is the dual-injection, since DI-only engines reportedly have carbon build-up problems from 30 to 50K miles. I don't know if I'll keep mine that long, but don't want to deal with expensive cleaning that can also destroy the engine if not done right. Will use Techron to keep the injectors clean, but nothing I can do with the valves. Wonder how long these DI engines can stay out of trouble without cleaning. Does anybody know for sure? Thx. I really like the 2.5T on my SF Calli, but the 2.0T has enough power for the G70 IMO. However, I'm sure the 2.5T will feel much more livelier, as the power is barely adequate now.

Here is the summary of updates in pictures. Its in korean but just refer to pictures like new logo

Rumors had it that Hyundai Corporate held back the G70 from getting the 2.5T, in order for give the Stinger a competitive edge, as it was almost ixnayed a few years back. Now that end of Stinger production has been made official, it's no surprising G70 is finally getting 2.5T as the base engine.

2024 for KDM means 2025 for North America start sale. If I'm in the market for a sport sedan 2-4yrs from now, 2.5T G70 would be high on my list, especially if North America gets the Shooting Brake, albeit highly unlikely.

The document says it's coming out on dealer lots in May of this year in South Korea, so it'll be on U.S. lots in 2024 guaranteed.

Didn't the last refresh come out in May in the US? I was hoping it would be in the US sooner... Guess we'll see. Too bad there is no mention about the gauge cluster. Be nice if they were all digital like the Euro market cars.

I'd be very surprised if it's not changed, when the engine will. But we'll find out soon enough:cool:.

Please. Please. Please. Change the gauge cluster. Anything else, the 2019 symmetrical semi-screen/analog cluster, the new digital, anything but the existing monstrosity half digital half analog high-school quality result.

Also update the wheels (rims) to something better.

If I was stretching my wishlist I'd ask for a more serious "sport" edition (say more HP, stiffer, etc., something special).

The above would convince me to sell my 2019 and upgrade. Not convinced with the 2nd refresh as it is currently sadly.

I recently bought a '23, thinking it'd have the 2.5T, since Stingers already have it, but that wasn't the case. So a little pissed off next year will have it, but no way I'd lose my a$$ and trade it so new. What I don't understand is why Hyundai didn't leave the half dash the way it was before, with the nice orange gauges, and putting that awful cheap speedo and gas gauges that resemble the 80s? Oh well. Not enough to lose thousands either, but the new version should have the dash my '22 Santa Fe Calligraphy has, which is awesome, with regular gauges, and no center info. We should see pictures soon, I'd think.

There's no mention of the gauge cluster because the press release is for the South Korean market where it's already an available feature.

PAY ATTENTION GENESIS.

Give the people what they want.

Lol

Ah, good point. Maybe the "leak" will prompt them to do an official release statement soon....
