Removing position lights

Can anyone tell me how to get to the position lights? I removed the cap that covers the back of the light but I have had no luck getting the position light out with needle nose pliers. I even tried to pull out the whole head light by removing three bolts but the head light wouldn't come out. I would like to replace those position lights with super white LEDs'. Would someone please school me?

Had similar issues with the pliers. Here's what I did after a few unsuccessful attempts. Grasp the back of the position light firmly and securely with your index and thumb. ::important:: Visualize the light coming out. Take a deep breath. Pull. I find that letting out a grunt helps but ymmv.

The position lights and the front parking lights are the same thing. I found an earlier post that should help me remove and replace the position lights. Thanks for your replies and I'll post the results of this little project when I'm done.

They are the DRL's in Canada, and the US versions just turn on with the headlights or parking lights on.

I put in superbright LED's just like you are trying to do and agree. Pull hard, grunt, cuss, pull some more, cuss some more and they will eventually come out. Heaven help you if you put the LED's in with the wrong polarity cuz then you have to repeat the pull hard, grunt etc procedure all over again.

FWIW:

be cautious with the LED's. Most of them out there are NOT heat tolerant and if you run your high beams often, you will melt the LED's and stain your housings a dull yellow. Been there, done that and wont do it again. Currently my position lights are without a bulb...of any kind.

This is a good point Ping, but all can be avoided by using the correct LED's for this application.

The LED's need heat sinks, to avoid heat related bulb failures and other problems.
