Genesis Motors Intelligent High Beams / Adaptive Headlights / Matrix Headlights Discussion

CU000 here. :cry: I contacted Genesis before I took delivery and they told me the car had the same physical components that the Korean model had w.r.t. ADB, so a software unlock would be possible.
They are technically correct, as AFS (Genesis calls it "Intelligent Front-lighting System") doesn't come default with the any of the trims of Korean GV60s, and is a part of a "High Tech Package" optional upgrade.

Interestingly, the same High Tech Package includes the Digital Key 2 that is part of the US Model, but they decided to cheap out on the AFS smh.

the lack of adaptive headlights on the gv70 is a safety concern. it is a basic or optional feature for any suv in this class. in the winter months trying to turn at a corner in the dark is hazardous. perhaps it's just me but I am driving blind into corners.
 
Yeah, I've never had an issue - it's dark here 5 months of the year and winter is very harsh here in Edmonton...visibility is often bad, but I've never had an issue. The headlights spready very widely across the road, so not sure what the complaint is...

If the lack of this feature is that big of a safety concern, did the other features of the GV70 outweigh that drawback and convince you to purchase the vehicle regardless since you've also stated "THE GV70 IS THE BEST CAR I EVER OWNED".

If you don't have adaptive headlights, you should not be on the road at night. Think how traffic jams in the dark will be eliminated with a billion cars off the road.

Sure, they are nice, but I'd not say a danger without them.
 
I believe all of you are correct and it is indeed still the best car I have ever owned. at 67 it's simply time for me to wear my driving glasses all the time ESPECIALLY at night. no need to continue this thread "I've seen the light"!

I think you need to do some variant coding to get the new headlights recognized by the onboard computer.
Without, the new headlights might not even turn on.
This coding tool sells for around ~$6000 with 1 year software subscription.

I haven't seen any mfr release US legal matrix lights since the signing of the law in Jan 2022. I think mfr are still doing the design and testing to make it compliant. The US matrix lights law apparently is not the same as the EUs so they need to adapt it for our roads. Audi has always advertised an OTA to enable the matrix function of their recent model cars and even they have not provided an update.

But as for Genesis, they never officially advertised/promised it in the US, and so there is a zero chance for the Genesis already sold in the US will get this through an OTA.
For that, there is zero chance they would have installed more expensive headlights for no reason.

yes, especially if it's different hw to begin with. no sw fix is gonna change that. bummer.

Our 2023 gv70 headlights and high beams are dangerous on dark roads. We got the car in Florida where streets were lit, and when we got to our summer home in the mountains, we found it extremely dangerous at night. We can’t drive the car at night on dark roads, especially with curves anymore. The high beams don’t light up through road enough and turning a curve is totally blind. We had to stop on a mountain road because we couldn’t see the curve. Never had this problem with our BMW or Lexus.
Too bad, the car really drives nice, but this is a real councern for peopke living on country roads.
I think Genesis better do something about this.
 
I live outside the city and for 5-6 months of the year, it is dark every time I drive to work and drive home...I have never had any issues with the headlights whatsoever. Not sure what the concern is.
 
the GV70 is one of the IIHS top safety picks, and specifically the headlights get a Good rating (their highest rating).


I will say this; I have a 2020 Palisade Limited and those headlights offer slightly better illumination than my GV70, but in no way would I ever say the Genesis lights are subpar. The GV70 lighting is great. I rented a Mitsubishi Outlander and its LED headlights were terrible in comparison, but that car also gets a Good rating from IIHS.

If the model GV70 you purchased has AFLS headlights, you have to set the stalk position to AUTO for them to function. Are you doing that?

If the model you purchased does not have AFLS headlights, then you bought the wrong model for your particular needs, assuming that AFLS is a feature on higher trim models.

There are always aftermarket lighting systems available. Stop by a local store in the mountains and get some estimates. You won’t be the first folks to add extra lighting for special needs.
