  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Mass Issue: Genesis Infotainment Driver/User Profile Settings Reset Discussion

There’s no problem starting the car . in my advanced trim all the fingerprint sensor ever did was set my driver profile settings after I start the engine. It never functioned as an engine start button. But once the system attempts to remove my profile and fails as it can’t remove my fingerprint it locks up the head unit until I restart the engine. Then it doesn’t try again for a variable time it seems . Inconvenient, but not the end of the world .. I’m most interested to see how Genesis customer service handles the case as a good indicator for future issues too..
I was saying that to unlock the head unit, not to start the engine. In my GV70 advanced, when the head unit starts to show delete profile popups, I stop the engine and start again by pushing the start engine button with the key. Popups disappear, no more delete profile popups.

Ahh, ok .. so far without using the key fob engine start , I’ve found the pop up stops for a variable number of restarts .. used to be every 3-4 starts. Last week it didn’t try to delete for 4 days currently seems to be about every 5 restarts ., using the key fob restart have you found it stopped the pop ups completely or a similar experience to myself ?

Not completely, but for a while :) maybe a week or so. It's not a permanent fix but easier than the other workarounds.

Could you post the profile reset instructions that Genesis Customer Service sent you?

Thanks

To complete the Driver Profile setup from within the vehicle, follow the below steps:
Note: An active Connected Services subscription is required to use Driver Profiles.

Step 1: Turn the ignition on to power on Head Unit.

Step 2: Press the “Setup” Hard Key– this will take user to Setup screen on the head unit.

Step 3: Select the User Profile icon.

Step 4: Select the correct User Profile.

Important: If Driver Profiles have not been set up in the vehicle yet, the only profile options that will be displayed are “Guest” and “Change User.” The owner will need to select “Change User,” which will display options to set up Driver 1 and Driver 2. Clicking on Driver 1 or Driver 2 will allow the owner to update the settings, including updating the Profile Name.

Step 5: Select “Link Connected Services Account” to associate a Driver Profile with a Connected Services account. You will need to put in a phone number associated to their Connected Services account and follow the prompts they will receive on their mobile device.

To complete the Driver Profile setup from the mobile app, follow the below steps:

Important: It is recommended to do this while the vehicle’s ignition is turned on.

Step 1: Select the “Utilities” menu at the bottom of the screen.

Step 2: Select “My Profile.”

Step 3: Select “Driver Account Settings."

Step 4: Choose “Register” to finish setting up the Driver Profile.

Hello, everyone:

This morning I experienced something strange on my 2023 G90, purchased in September 2022. The car seems to have done a factory reset that I did not initiate. I last drove the car yesterday to and from work and parked it in my driveway overnight, as usual. This morning, when I started it, I noticed that the main screen said "resetting" and when it finished, it went to the usual disclaimer page, followed by the home page that displays the clock. However, the clock was now on Eastern Standard Time, and not Daylight Saving Time and the dashboard display was different than my usual. That was the first clue that something was wrong. Upon further inspection, I found that my phone had been unpaired and all my settings for warning chimes, door unlock, ambient lighting, navigation favorites, etc., were gone. Everything was gone, and I didn't initiate this. What's interesting is that the car received an OTA update last week, which self-installed without incident, or any noticeable changes, for that matter. It was something minor having to do with the Audio system and something else I couldn't read before it disappeared from the screen. I'm wondering if anyone here has experienced an unwanted reset like this. It's annoying that I now have to set everything back up from scratch.

I experience the same thing with my 2023G 90 and had to redo everything all over. We certainly should have received some kind of warning or advance notice that this was going to happen as my iPhone and Apple Watch would no longer work and so it was really difficult as I was away from home and had to go through a number of steps to be able to start the car as I didn’t have the key fob with me.

I don't understand what you mean by "Pushing the start engine button with the key" What key? Do you mean press the fob against the start engine button instead of your finger?
Thanks.

Maybe they are suggesting to use the remote start feature using your key fob?

Remote start procedure for GV70

You can remotely start your Genesis GV70 by following these simple steps:

  1. Press the LOCK button on the key fob of your GV70.
  2. Then within 4 seconds press and hold the REMOTE START button for over 2 seconds on the key fob.

  3. The engine starts and the turn signal lights flash multiple times.
  4. Once started remotely, the engine will run for 10 minutes and then shut down automatically.
The vehicle remains secured when you have remotely started the engine. A valid key must be inside the vehicle to be able to drive.

The remote start procedure must be performed within 32 feet or 10 meters distance from your GV70, otherwise the engine may not start. The range may be reduced due to weak battery in the key fob or external signal interference.

Yes, use the car key instead of your finger

By key, you mean fob, right?
I know in some other cars when there is an issue with the car not reading the fop is present, you needed to put the fob up against a sensor located in the car (One car it was the cup holder another the steering column) then push the button.

Yes

They should just fess up that they quickly pushed out a security update to address the rampant theft of Hyundai/Kia/Genesis vehicles and in the future they'll warn people in advance that their profiles might get deleted to clear out stored digital keys.

Well, I have tried it yesterday after the pop up failed again to delete my profile and restarted using the fob pressing the engine start button .. I’ll let you know how that’s affected the prompt frequency :-)

Hi, new here. Made a profile because I’m having the problem everyone else is. Without going through all the pages is there a permanent solution yet? Or any?

If you mean you lost all your settings in your car, including your finger print, radio stations, etc., the only solution is to bring both keys to your car and set everything up again. You'll likely need to reconnect to Connected Services as well. If you don't know how to do that, let us know and we can provide simple directions.

This was most likely a one time goof by Genesis.
For me, All I had to do was to go into my settings and put things back the way I like them. I never lost my connected services nor did I need to use the two key method to restore anything. It appears some people were more damaged by this than others. Other than trying to figure out one setting, It tool me less than 30 minutes sitting in my driveway to get me back to where I was, and I relearned a few things about my car.

Yeah, for me it was a relearning of some of the settings I had not seen in a long time. I was ticked at first but...

Yes, Hyundai fired the guy that scewed up and released a change that should not have gone out. Seems he was going to play Super Mario on the Geneis computer and he put the wrong floppy in the A drive.

In our age of technology, things like this can happen at any time to many things, phones, computers, power grid, etc. Damned humans screw things up.

They deserved to be fired, but do you know for a fact the person responsible for this was indeed fired?

All we really know is the change was not supposed to be sent out. Not enough information to say if he should be fired. Circumstances matter and we don't know them.
