  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Mass Issue: Genesis Infotainment Driver/User Profile Settings Reset Discussion

Fingers crossed for you!
No change , still cannot delete the fingerprint (even with both key fobs present and correct pin) … oh well service appointment upcoming on Wednesday and I expect an order in to replace the head unit will follow based upon others with similar experience .. The service manager also suggested that with a new head unit and myself as the only driver that just setting the pin would be enough security and I could skip setting up a new fingerprint ..

As expected the dealership couldn’t fix the issue so new head unit ordered and expected to be fitted next week .. hopefully that will finally put to bed this annoying issue .. I don’t think I’ll set up a fingerprint on the new unit just a pin for security ..

I too think it might be wise to not set up fingerprint and just use a pin for security.
It is a little disturbing that it took Genesis so long to figure out that in some cases the head units would have to be replaced, but it’s all about saving money at the customers expense.
I will be looking for your next post saying that this matter has been indeed been put to bed and you are good to go🍀

I called customer service for the 2nd time yesterday and was told I needed to add a photo to my profile in the app...... ??? I did that and this morning my screen loaded properly on the first try. Normally I would have to turn the car off, open the door, and start it a second time to get the screen to load without the Link Disabled message.

Good luck with that , they also tried that with me on one call, I have a nice photo of my dog there now but it didn’t resolve my issue !! .. 😉.. the pop ups resumed after a short while ..

So it's FIXED ? But how ?Was there a stealth, mass OTA update or just for you ? Hopefully others will comment with their recent experience.

It worked this morning..... I'll know after I start the car a few more times. I'll report back.

Does everyone else with this issue have the same temporary fix of just restarting the car a second time and then its fine until the next start?

Only one time this didn’t happen to me and had to soft reset the head unit to clear it but normally a single engine restart clears the issue .. I’m still not sure what triggers the pop up as it seems very random ..

Any word on that new head unit. I am seeing a few others posting that their head units are also being replaced. Genesis still remains silent about this issue 😱

Part was ordered and got to the dealership 2 weeks ago but I can't get an appointment to install it until mid-August.

I know the service department is backed up, but under the circumstances they should have got you in the next day. The stories being told about some of these service departments are real horror stories. I have been very fortunate with the service department here, but they have changed hands and I have noticed somethings that raise a certain level of concern.
I have been told that the dealership must brake ground for the stand alone by Sept. 2, 2023. It will be interesting to see how things play out.
My plan is to make this my last car. I would never trade out of it until the warranty is up. If getting the car serviced in the future becomes an issue I will just have to deal with it.
In my humble opinion regardless of the brand, cars have always been a poor investment and getting what you paid for just continues to go down hill.
Hopefully in a couple of more weeks you will be good to go.

25 pages on the same problem on the biggest Genesis Forum - and Genesis still hasn't got an effective solution to offer their customers?
Even the most enthusiastic Brand loyalists must be considering moving to a competitive brand ?
Is this situation an indication of technical incompetence at Genesis corporate or just disinterest in getting future business ? For potential Dealers this must cause them to question the prudence of investing in such a brand ?

Yup, was convinced that this was a good brand but they still have years to go. Going back to the German luxury brands now.

It was a big screwup on their part. For me, it was about 15 minutes to put settings back in. Sure it was inconvenient, but things like that can happen with any brand that does OTA updates.

Put it in perspective. My cable/internet has done similar, my phone, land and cell, had done things like that. People at work have done things like that, as have suppliers.

I'll switch when you tell me what brand is perfect.

No brand is perfect. No car is perfect. When things break, I’m fine bringing it to the dealer for a fix but NOT fine with waiting a month and a half to 2 months for an appointment. It was never this long when I owned a Lexus. Car techs don’t want to work for a Hyundai shop!

For the record my head unit still does not work and I can’t get into my system. I haven’t had a working navigation or radio screen for 2 months now.

You need to press for a new head unit as Genesis is having to replace a few over this bogus software update issue.

There are owners of other brands that are talking about the long wait to get into their service departments.

I can’t tell you how long I waited to get served in a major restaurant Sunday. They were very short on help, pretty much what some service departments are dealing with.

I am not defending Genesis as some of these complaints they have brought on themselves and if they are not careful they will find themselves losing customers and these stand alone dealerships will be living up to their name, as they will be standing there all alone.

Understand the frustratio with no resolution for a couple of months,

My Hyundai/Genesis service is superior to my Mercedes and GM dealers.
Won't get any better for a while
According to the National Automobile Dealer Association, around 76,000 auto mechanic positions open up every year compared to the only 39,000 workers are coming out of technical colleges or training programs.

On August 10 my GV70 displayed:
" Your current version is too old. Please try to update with USB memory device".
I had tried that update several times with no success. Now it was worse - the system was inoperable. I would have rather had a "too old" system than nothing ! An discrete Error Message- great but to just over-write the screen and make it inoperable and propose a resolution that has failed for many of us ? Genesis has a Lexus mole ?
Fast forward to August 28 - the Navigation and other systems work fine suddenly !
Thank you Genesis.
But what a fiasco .
Hopefully the next update will be better.
Whoever was responsible for this chaos at Genesis needs to be reassigned. They created untold inconvenience for owners and 25 pages of negative PR on this Forum.
Some brand-damage may persist as many have questioned the viability of the Genesis brand and focused on competitors for their next vehicle. I booked an appointment (one month ahead!)with a Genesis dealer to do this update. I would have driven past many, many Lexus dealers during that 7 hour round trip. So that leaves the Dealer geographic coverage issue as a remaining huge brand loyalty issue. That's an ongoing separate thread here. Thanks to all who offered advice on the issue. Maybe someone at Hyundai corporate in Korea reads these posts ?

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Woops, when I checked the update was false. So I signed up for the USB by mail. Sadly another fiasco of orders/case numbers/arbitary cancellation of order/no order shipped/Mapcare service was slow and clunky. "Chat" doesn't work. They have no cross -link to my vehicle info so every contact requires the same litany of info again and again. Not professional.

To help others here is the info on the USB that Hyundai will send you:
"This shipment includes the following items:
