May of 2023 I contacted the nearest dealer selling the GV60. It was a 3 hour plane ride from Michigan to New Jersey. They picked us up from the airport and knew very well we lived in MI. That brings me to my first point. Anyone wondering why they are limiting sales to a few states the exact and very real answer is below.
1. They only sell the car in certain states because THEY DONT HAVE CERTIFIED GENESIS EV TECHS elsewhere. We absolutely would not have purchased the car if we knew we couldn't get it repaired anywhere near where we lived. More on this later.
From NJ we drove to southeast Ohio, through a known charging desert to visit family before making the return trip to Michigan. All without issues of any kind. We found chargers whenever we needed to. Upon arrival at home we had about 1200 miles on our brand new GV60 Performance and I was in the mood to show it off. First ride with a friend I hit boost and laid into it for the first time. This brings me to problem #2
2. About 2 seconds after returning to normal speed I get a red EPB warning on my screen.
So I think it's got to be a software issue ill take it in and they will fix it in no time. I called every genesis dealer in Michigan and they all without fail lied to me (I didn't know it at the time) the lie was "we are too busy and can't get you in until september." They all told me I would need to take it to the dealer I purchased it from if I wanted it serviced sooner (that's a 13 hour drive) that brings me to issue #3, the lie.
3. After a few "elevations" starting with our concierge service we got the truth. 1 sales staff are trained to NOT sell the car to people who live in a service desert or sell only if the customer is aware and accepts the risk and yes they are told where these service deserts are. 2. Those genesis dealers near me weren't too busy at all, September is when they get trained Genesis EV techs but rather than tell me that they made me figure it out on my own, would have saved me weeks if they were just straight with me.
The concierge service has been good but after finding a solution it's been 3 weeks and it's yet to be implemented. They said that they allow 1 trailering to a service station and reimbursement for rental car costs for all owners in our situation. I'll update this post when it finally happens. That brings me to issue #4
4. I asked if the car was safe to drive, they checked the codes through connected service and told me yes. I have 2 codes seemingly related to sensors. The result? I can't use Cruz control at all, I cant use any advanced driving features, I can't apply the parking break which means I cant update the vehicle which I was
Told would likely solve the problem. Oh and here's the kicker my ABS system doesn't work! How can that possibly be safe? Basically anything that requires "conditions to be met" doesn't work including V2L charging. My 1970
buick skylark had a working cruise control system and parking break even when the check engine light was on.
So we are now at 3k miles, driving the only car we own because... well we have to. This brings me to my newest and last issue.
5. After 3k miles and a half dozen charges at 350kw chargers in 80+ degree weather I've never seen rates over 150kw which despite what the screen predicts (18minutes) results in 34 minute charge times on average. The latest charge at an EA had a display screen which indicated that the charge rate was being reduced by my battery management system, not the charger. This at 80 degrees after driving 200 miles and during the entire 32 minutes charging it never exceeded 152kwh. See pic below and in another threat.
Finally the warning light says EPB which means electronic parking break which makes sense because as I just found out trying to update the car to the latest version I can't engage the parking break. Previously I thought the red flashing parking break icon meant that the break was applied. Within the genesis app it throws 2 codes 1 related to the chasis and another related to crash avoidance. Good luck finding info on those codes it took more time on the phone to finally be told that the ABS system wasn't working. Point being, what is on the dash and in the app is NOT even close to the full story.
I love this car I really do but....?
