Reported Issues with the Genesis GV60

I’ve had a myriad of problems with my car. I’m hindsight, would the problems have prevented me from buying the car? Probably not.
However, Genesis’s inability to correct the problems definitively would have. This is what bothers me most. I’m willing to accept the occasional issue, but expect that the manufacturer would promptly correct the issue. This hasn’t happened.
I suspect that if you were to look through this thread you’d find that most of the common/widespread issues remain unresolved.

They should....
But reports of service have been phenomenally spotty. From an absolute sh@tshow nightmare to brilliant. So if something goes wrong, you need to be sure that the mechanics near you are willing and capable.
Typically dealerships make more money from service than they do from new car sales. So they should. But as noted above, the actuality can vary. If there is only one loaner left, and both you and another owner who purchased from the dealership have your cars in for service, there might be a preference (unprovable) for the owner that purchased from them.

Agreed! I’ve had this GV60 “advanced” here in BC, Canada for almost 20,000 km. No problems whatsoever!

BUT - for MONTHS NOW - I’ve had an issue with the GV60 NOT displaying real time traffic. Genesis services has suggested it’s simply a software issue and that it will be corrected. That was about 3 MONTHS ago.

But what’s REALLY irritating, is that this colour coded street congestion displays PERFECTLY on our 2019 Hyundai Kona Electric — but NOT on the GV60???? Same company really????

Moreover, I recently drove through Calgary, Alberta and all the colour coded traffic was displayed there on the GV60 onboard maps all the time for the week that I was there. I come back to Vancouver and all the traffic colours on major routes were gone.

Not impressed with Genesis service.

I smell a story. That Genesis is hiding something. Perhaps a contractual dispute with the traffic service providers. Who knows?

But as a recently retired journalist of some 30 years, I WILL find out.

I agree. I’ve has absolutely NO issues with my 2023 Advanced unit here in Vancouver, British Columbia for some 20,000 km.

BUT …

For 3 MONTHS NOW, I’ve been waiting for Genesis to correct a problem with this car’s navigation system.

I cannot see traffic coloured congestion on my navigation display in the GV60. I USED to be able.

YET, I CAN see the same traffic colour coded congestion on our 2019 Kona Electric??? WTF?

I recently travelled to Calgary Alberta and was surprised to see that traffic congestion
was CLEARLY displayed in Calgary on the GV60 — but NOT in Vancouver when I returned.

This is problematic for new owners.

Ive had my GV60 since June 30th. As of last night I noticed my car only charged from 60 percent to 70 percent (I charge it each night to 80 percent). Tonight my GV60 had issues maintaining its charging schedule. It kept shutting down after a few minutes, it took me 5 or 6 times with me unplugging the charger and plugging it back in again before It was finished charging. I too use a level 2 Grizzl-e charger, but I don't think that's the issue. The garage seems to get a bit warm while charging and I wonder if its triggering a safety measure. If that's the case and my level 2 is causing heat issues, I'd hate to see what a level 3 would do when it's hot out.
I have the issues with my gv60, I called the dealership and they said, they will pick up my car this week so they can troubleshoot the problem. These gv60 have definitely a charging problem.

May of 2023 I contacted the nearest dealer selling the GV60. It was a 3 hour plane ride from Michigan to New Jersey. They picked us up from the airport and knew very well we lived in MI. That brings me to my first point. Anyone wondering why they are limiting sales to a few states the exact and very real answer is below.

1. They only sell the car in certain states because THEY DONT HAVE CERTIFIED GENESIS EV TECHS elsewhere. We absolutely would not have purchased the car if we knew we couldn't get it repaired anywhere near where we lived. More on this later.

From NJ we drove to southeast Ohio, through a known charging desert to visit family before making the return trip to Michigan. All without issues of any kind. We found chargers whenever we needed to. Upon arrival at home we had about 1200 miles on our brand new GV60 Performance and I was in the mood to show it off. First ride with a friend I hit boost and laid into it for the first time. This brings me to problem #2

2. About 2 seconds after returning to normal speed I get a red EPB warning on my screen.

So I think it's got to be a software issue ill take it in and they will fix it in no time. I called every genesis dealer in Michigan and they all without fail lied to me (I didn't know it at the time) the lie was "we are too busy and can't get you in until september." They all told me I would need to take it to the dealer I purchased it from if I wanted it serviced sooner (that's a 13 hour drive) that brings me to issue #3, the lie.

3. After a few "elevations" starting with our concierge service we got the truth. 1 sales staff are trained to NOT sell the car to people who live in a service desert or sell only if the customer is aware and accepts the risk and yes they are told where these service deserts are. 2. Those genesis dealers near me weren't too busy at all, September is when they get trained Genesis EV techs but rather than tell me that they made me figure it out on my own, would have saved me weeks if they were just straight with me.

The concierge service has been good but after finding a solution it's been 3 weeks and it's yet to be implemented. They said that they allow 1 trailering to a service station and reimbursement for rental car costs for all owners in our situation. I'll update this post when it finally happens. That brings me to issue #4

4. I asked if the car was safe to drive, they checked the codes through connected service and told me yes. I have 2 codes seemingly related to sensors. The result? I can't use Cruz control at all, I cant use any advanced driving features, I can't apply the parking break which means I cant update the vehicle which I was
Told would likely solve the problem. Oh and here's the kicker my ABS system doesn't work! How can that possibly be safe? Basically anything that requires "conditions to be met" doesn't work including V2L charging. My 1970 buick skylark had a working cruise control system and parking break even when the check engine light was on.

So we are now at 3k miles, driving the only car we own because... well we have to. This brings me to my newest and last issue.

5. After 3k miles and a half dozen charges at 350kw chargers in 80+ degree weather I've never seen rates over 150kw which despite what the screen predicts (18minutes) results in 34 minute charge times on average. The latest charge at an EA had a display screen which indicated that the charge rate was being reduced by my battery management system, not the charger. This at 80 degrees after driving 200 miles and during the entire 32 minutes charging it never exceeded 152kwh. See pic below and in another threat.

Finally the warning light says EPB which means electronic parking break which makes sense because as I just found out trying to update the car to the latest version I can't engage the parking break. Previously I thought the red flashing parking break icon meant that the break was applied. Within the genesis app it throws 2 codes 1 related to the chasis and another related to crash avoidance. Good luck finding info on those codes it took more time on the phone to finally be told that the ABS system wasn't working. Point being, what is on the dash and in the app is NOT even close to the full story.

I love this car I really do but....?

I had the same problem, I called the dealer and they said :( that genesis is aware of the issues,") they came and picked up the car and all that was needed was a software upgrade. I have my car back and it's charging without any interruptions so far........just call the dealership to come and get your car to update the software. Good luck.

I have not had the major issues with my GV60 as some of you have reported. I understand what you are going through as I had similar experiences with a new Acura. With the Acura I ended up selling it as I was not happy with its continuous issues and and vowed to never buy another Acura. If I do encounter major issues as some have, I would sell the GV60 and never buy another Genesis. Life’s too short to put up with these kind of issues with a car. I would not want to wake up each day and be upset about a car that cannot be fixed by the dealer.

You really need to just get rid of the car. Trade it in on a prius that can be serviced in Michigan. You do that, you can probably get two cars. But make sure that whatever car it is, you can actually get it serviced in your state. There is a reason you had to go out of State to buy one, I am just surprised that you did not figure out why that was, until after you purchased one.

I've had my GV60 for 5 days and this is the first issue I've noticed. After exiting the car and locking the doors via the door handle, when I push the charging port door, it doesn't open. The only way to open it is through the key fob. Anyone else have this issue?

Is there a way to open the charge port door while in the car via a button or menu?

Car must be unlocked to open charge port door. In car, you can use voice commands to open and close, “Open charge port door” or “Close…….”

That seems silly. So I need to get out, open the charge port door, and then lock the car, or use the voice commands to open the charge port door and then get out and lock the car? Haha.

Many cars won’t allow you to open the gas filler door without unlocking the car so it’s no different. Don’t see the issue.

Or, you can just lock the doors after you connect the charger. Just walk by and press the handle. This isn’t a real problem.

Yeah, that's what I'm doing. I was just used to locking using the driver side door as soon as I got out. Now I get out, open the charge port, and lock with the passenger side door.

You're funny! There is literally no possible way to know that until you have an issue. Yes there is a reason it's only sold in 4 or 8 states and the salespeople are trained to relay that to you, but they don't because that would cut into their sales. Even The local dealerships will lie to you and just say "we are too busy" rather than tell you the truth. And if you think a Genesis gv60 owner would be happy in a prius you're particularly hilarious. Nice troll attempt.

Genesis has arranged to trailor the car and will pay for our rental during its absence. I hope others got some value out of me sharing my experience.

Seems that, for once, we in the UK have a slight advantage in that we don’t have to walk as far to get to the charge port from the driver’s side. Go Right Hand Drive!
