  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I'm deciding what to get when my bmw 535i lease runs out.

It's always dangerous reading these sorts of forums since one focuses on the problems rather than hearing about the satisfied owners.

I just went through the "have any problems with your Genesis" and it was pretty disturbing. The number of folks with no or few problems wasn't as large as I'd like to see. I'm particularly concerned about the sound system in the tech package... is there anyone for whom this works properly?

In general, tell me that the posts in that thread aren't the norm... is this a well built, reliable car?

Most of the issues with the 09 have been due to the amp in the stereo, for most this was an easy fix, for others it was a chronic problem that couldn't be solved. The 2010's don't seem to have this issue.
Welcome to the forum, we welcome your questions and concerns.

Keep in mind that when you research on the internet, most people signing up are doing so to figure out a problem. If you buy a new car and have no issues, than there's no reason to go searching online. And you're very unlikely to sign up on a forum just to tell everyone how great your car is. What you WILL do, however, is go to Google and search "genesis whatever not working". What you'll find is ALL the people who've had the same problem you're having.. Since there are tens of thousands of cars sold, you're not going to be the only person experiencing your problem.

So keep that in mind while doing research on the internet. All the people not having the problems you're reading about - are not here...

Thanks-- that's what I wanted to hear.

I'm considering another 535 and an M37. Hard to decide.

All the cars you're looking at are really great.. The 535i has nice power for a V6. If you're looking at brand new, it's been redesigned - so the look is very fresh.. The M37 is no slouch either - and another brand new design. The current Genesis has been around a few years now - so it's the oldest of the group - but considering the fact that Hyundai is only just becoming a desired brand in the luxury arena, there aren't many out there. The Genesis will give you a very similar experience as the 535i and M37 - but it'll cost a lot less..

So if you're looking for a great car without compromise with low payments, the Genesis would be a great choice. If money is less of an object, than you may feel better about driving the more expensive car...

I have a V8 Genesis and a 2011 535i. For what you spend to lease the 5, you can buy the Genesis. If money isn't an issue the 5 is a great car, but the Genesis is a great car and a great value, especially considering where the economy is right now.

535i vs Genesis... you're the perfect person to ask about the two...

I love my '08 535i's ride and handling, but not its reliability issues.

How do you compare the ride of the two (new bmw 5 vs the genesis)?

The various car reviews seem to liken the Genesis' handling to that of a Lexus-- definitely not what I'm looking for. This forum suggests the handling is sportier.

I've test driven a v6 genesis but where I live you can't really get a feel for the car in the immediate vicinity of the dealer. Also, I suspect the v8 is somewhat different but there are absolutely no v8 genesis-s (geni?) anywhere nearby on dealer lots.

I've certainly never had any issues with the audio in my car, it is an incredible sound system. Maybe a little light on the subwoofer, but that could just be my taste.

Have you had the dreaded HPFP issue with the E60?
The ride, doesn't compare, the bimmer is a much more refined machine. I have a Lexus LS400 as well. Believe me, this car does not handle like a Lexus, it's much more aggressive. I think the engineers deliberately got away from the Lexus LS is this regards. "Think, Infiniti M Class"

You need to locate a 2010 Genesis V8 and drive it. I have a 2010 Genesis V8 with the Tech Package and I love the car. It has the best stereo system that I have had including my wifes Lexus LS 430. IMHO, the Genesis is the best value per dollar in the market.

Can't comment on the BMW vs Genesis comparison, but I did drive both the 2010 V6 and V8 a few days ago when I leased my second V6...and there are differences you should experience before making a decision. Particularly the steering feel, which I personally found much more to my liking in the V6. It seems lighter and more nimble probably because there is less weight over the front wheels. The V8 had more power but, again for me, not really enough to overcome the V6 advantages of nimble steering, better mileage and cost advantage. One thing I loved about the V8 was its nice, fat, leather/wood steering wheel which a car like the Genesis deserves.

Not the full blown (there's a pun in that) HPFP problem but several fuel and electrical problems. That's why replacing with another if far from a slam dunk.

Per another comment-- I like how the Infinity M drives. If the Genesis is similar, that's good.

Get one like mine (check my album). Better than the v8!:D

Is the Genesis OK? They'e GRRRRREAT!!!

My previous car was a 2006 530i. I liked that car a lot, but love the Genesis. Great quality, Good performance Excellent value. It really stands out in the crowd.

Yeppers!

Yes, mine is more than OK ... I like it a lot! Did have the limit switch problem with the steering wheel, but the dealer took care of it and so far (6,000 miles) no other failures.

I like the ride, by the way. I drive in SW FL and our roads are very good here. It is a bit stiff and I might not be as happy if I had to dodge pot holes.

The sound system is the best I have experienced in any car that I have ever sat or rode in ... no kidding! (No, the bass will not rupture your ear drums, so if that is what you need, you will be disappointed.)

The fit and finish are superb. The engine is so quiet that I sometimes look at the tach to make sure it is turning over (yet, when you nail it you get a nice throaty rumble to accompany the feeling that you are accelerating handsomely as you are pushed back in the seat). The transmission is sure yet smooth, with only an occasional bump when I push a bit harder on the accelerator (when it is deciding to shift).

This is a fun car to drive and to look at and to play with. The value is unbeatable!

I have a BMW and the Genesis 4.6. Wifey wanted the BMW and I could not talk her out of it. It is an E93 328i and not a 5 series but a BMW none the less. It has a great desire to spend quality time at the dealer. I have had no less than 6 check engine lights and another several other lights in 25k miles. I have no complaints about warranty issues as BMW always takes good care of it and gets it in and out quickly but it is a massive inconvenience to spend that much time getting a car fixed. Genesis has never been back, no lights, no parts falling off, no trim peeling no issues at all. I have washed my hands of the BMW. When it has an issue I tell my wife "you wanted it, make an appointment and have it fixed". Hopefully when she needs a new car she will remember the time spent at the dealer and the next car will be something less needy.

Great Story!

So here's my question. I've been unhappy with the reliability of my 5 series but I love driving it in the mountains here in California. I'm no racer; I'm nowhere near pushing the envelope, but the car feels like it is on rails going around a turn.

My wife's lexus is fine for her but isn't anywhere near as stable on twisty roads.

I don't expect a Genesis to feel like a BMW, but is it close?

For what it's worth, I wasn't impressed with the MB E series although it's better than lexus in handling. I thought the M37 was pretty good but I can't take any car on a testdrive to where I really can see what it's like.
