  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

i'm assuming it would be a landslide, it should be. but im curious for those that have driven both what you think. i got a 14 impala new and love the decent power in the 3.6. love the smooth ride and it has all the features i want. but at 240K it's burning oil and the 3rd trans is slipping. thats why i dont think i want to buy a 2020 impala to replace it. obviously it's not a sports car at all but i still dont slow down under 85 around the bends on the highway.

will the 2018 g80 3.8 take those corners better...smoother ride....same features and more as the impala? if yes then im likely in. will the trans be more reliable? my impala would be 5700 today to replace so i'm assuming the g80 is a ton more and i really dont want to ever have to do that. that being said i wont be going up to 240K in the car since ill be retired next year.

used 2018 g90 is $36K vs 25K for the g80 where i live and theres only one v8 g90 around to compare. i dont want turbo. i feel when i retire next year, and stop going 30K miles a year, that the G90 would be a bit of a waste and overkill for me to be sitting in the garage. no matter how nice it is.

this is the g80 i plan to drive soon

was a corporate car then a lease.

i have yet to talk to my mechanic, who is 3 blocks from my house , but thats where all the work would be done on it. is there any issue getting parts for the cars to a local shop? but nothing will ever go wrong with it...right? :)

edit:been reading the forums and just discovered apparently start stop is mandatory on all cars now and ive seen the credit card trick post to keep it permanently off but dang if all the cars have it maybe i dont want a newer one..sigh

There are some known issues with the 2018 that were fixed in the 2019. Some '18s had transmission issues. Can't recall the other issues but if you read on the forum here you can find them.

This car is the 3.8 V6 with the sport package. I've got the base 2019 3.8 and enjoy it, bit it only has 23k miles. No issues so far. Does this have staggered tires? Different sizes front and back? Mine does not and I like that, I can rotate them. But I don't have the better radio, the sunroof, cooled seats, sunshades, heads up display like yours might. I look at my base model as "less that can break".

It will have many more features than the Impala. Price is about right. The ride is great, lots of technology.

The G90 is a nice car, but, so is the extra 10k in your retirement account. Only you can make that decision.
As for the ISG, not all cars have it but many do. Even very expensive ones.

sadly cant seem to find 2019 with non turbo around here. i drove the car yesterday and posted in a separate thread so i wont repeat it here. i regret i didnt look at the tires but the heated and cooled seats did work. i tested them. so i think maybe it's the ultimate package?

This is kind of apples and oranges. The genesis you are looking at has awd. The impala does not. The genesis has led headlights on that particular package the impala does not. The genesis is rwd the impala is fwd. the genesis will have much better interior materials. Surprisingly I think the impala ride quality in a straight line will be as good or better than the genesis especially over broken pavement. Cornering and handling will be better in the genesis. That genesis will be a tad quieter. The genesis will have more of a torque feeling off the line. Reliability is questionable on both. The genesis has better driver assistance tech. The impala will feel more spacious. The model you posted does not have staggered wheels which in my opinion is fantastic.

thanks for the reply . due to the vibration issues reported thruout this forum. im not risking my money on a genesis. im glad forums exist because otherwise i wouldnt have seen the signs on the carfax for the G90 i was looking at. i have no doubt that car had vibration issues and thats why 2 people had it just 28K and had it aligned multiple times then had to get new tires.

i would go buy a 2020 impala today except i worry about the same trans issues as before. old one only lasted till 135 ..sigh

Yes, you are an Impala guy. Comparing a G90 to an Impala is really unexplainable anyway.

id be g90 guy if the shimmy thread on here wasnt so detailed in its wrenching tales of anger and frustration. i feel so bad for those who went through months or years of trouble until genesis finally agreed to buy back their car. i couldnt handle that stress for sure. glad the forum was here to inform me.

You worry about the G90 and you worry about the Impala. There are plenty of other brands out there. Give them a chance to worry you too.

Why are you afraid of the turbo? it is not 1980 any more and they are very reliable.
