ok my friend is getting his 2005 audi a4 next week and he thinks he can beat my gen in a race.

here are some specs. the GENESIS is on the left and the a4 on the right
v6-------------------v4
3.8l-----------------1.8 turbo
290hp--------------170hp
3748---------------3362lbs
sedan---------------sedan
6 spd automatic---5 spd automatic

both cars are completely stock. (although im looking for some lightweight rims and a CAI :))

to me i think my car will smoke his. i doubt his turbo is going to make a big enough of a difference to compare with my 3.8 even with my car having an extra 400 pounds. plus he doesnt know how to race that well

I agree.. The V6 Genesis is faster. I think it's even faster than the 2.0t - which is slow (as far as I'm concerned). Of course, don't street race. :)

I just noticed you're in Delray Beach.. Go to Palm Beach International Raceway so you can have a real race.. Don't worry. You'll beat him unless he's chipped...

thanks. what if my car was chipped? are there any companies that make chips for the sedan you recommend?

no ECU upgrades available for the Genesis Sedan.. You don't need it. this shouldn't even be close race.. The 1.8 T (stock) is good for about 8.5 seconds to 60.. The v6 Genesis is good for about 6.5 That is a MASSIVE difference than even a poor launch should overcome...

alright ok thanks. i wish they did make performance parts for the sedan. all i can find is a lightweight pulley and lightweight rims. 4.6 has exhausts but none for the 3.8

aw crap, hes getting a 2.0t now instead :(
do u think i still have a chance?

As a current owner of my former gen! And a rep for Audi. Im saddened to say the a4 1.8t can beat you. I street race myself with friends and as well my best friend has a 04 a4 1.8t. I have a 09 V6 Genesis Seden. As much as i hate to say this he beats me all the time. Sorry maxmar but the a4 series has great performance. You can possibly catch up maybe after a mile or so. =/ but all that happens to me is guzzle gas. Let me know the details. Have you raced him yet?

Respectfully, I highly doubt it.

The 2004 Audi A4 (which is just a rebadged VW Passat) will do 0-60 in 8.70 seconds and will run the 1/4 mile in 16.68 seconds.
http://www.cars.com/go/crp/research.jsp?… (select A4 1.8T and here is what you will see:

Estimated Performance Specs

0-60 mph 8.70 seconds 1/4 mile 16.81 seconds at 84.59 mph Lateral acceleration .85 g Slalom 60 mph

If his A4 1.8T is stock, he will be/should be creamed by the V6 Genny.

Maybe you need to work on your driving skills. :o

Ha ha! That's funny. My 2003 Elantra I traded in for the Genesis was faster than an A4!:D

I assure you an elantra isnt fast than an a4. If it is you might wanna check if its really an elantra. last time i checked, elantra is driven by my mexican lawn worker. You sound like a moron if you say this. its common sense. @Pinggolf. I do believe the Gen is fast but in the long run. The A4 has great pickup and acceleration. We have recently gone to a raceway in LA and on a straight a way mile, He beat me by about 5 feet. Its a speedy little car. The Gen is aswell great and i love mine, but the A4 is overall better in short distances. BTW: At 102mph the genesis starts to shake. Got it checked out and they said the car isnt very durable over 85+ mph. @Scottdk please hold back your stupid and unreasonable remarks.

Wow.... just... wow.

Generalize much?

Dude....watch it!

For some reason I smell the horrid stench of a TROLL here! Am I right? If so, you're on thin ice!

Scotts comment was appropriate and quite funny I might add....but you took it and twisted it around a wee bit...which happens to be a symptom of the common troll.

However, for what it's worth...if dude's A4 is stock you would have about a car and a half on him...at a 1/4 mile. At a mile, he would be topped out at around 120. My v8 tops out around 154-156. If the v6 Genny's limiter is the same the A4 would be dust in the wind.

Also, if your car is shaking at 102, something is BAD wrong! I feel in TOTAL control at 154!!! Also, I would like to meet this "mechanic" who says the car is not durable over 85! Please tell me the dealership name and the mechanic who told you this.

You know what this really sounds like? An 18 year old kid who drives his MOM's V6 Genny and got spanked by an A4 because he has no clue how to operate a car in a racing environment. In fact, this said person never took the car over 3500rpm and was scarred to death that he hit 82 mph. HA!

Anywho, just watch it there buddy...respectfully.

As a former owner of a 2004 VW Passat 1.8t (essentially the same as the a4 1.8t) I can say that in stock trim the car is no drag racer and your V6 Genny should beat it easily.

A chipped 1.8t engine however is a different matter. A standard AEG chipset boosts power to 169HP and torque up to 213 ft lbs! and the power and torque all come on line a lower rpms making it a better drag racer. A quick look at the Audi and VW forums on this topic seems to indicate that chipped 1.8t Audi's and VW's clock 0-60 times in the low 7 second range.

Fortunately for you, this is still not good enough to beat your V6 Genny which should get you 0-60 in about 6 seconds :)

Tell you friend to get a better car. My Passat was the last German car I owned and after my experience with it and it's predecessor (a 1986 Quattro) I swore I would never own another unreliable and expensive to maintain German car again. Your friend will enjoy the handling and performance of his car, but it will let him down again and again and will empty his wallet so fast it will make his head spin.

Gennys rule! :D

HEAR HEAR. I am still driving my 2002 GLX 4Motion, and I cannot WAIT to get rid of it. Every time I take it for service, it's in the hundreds, if not thousands. :(

My thinking is that any 19 year old with his own "lawn man", must be doing something either "terribly right" or "terribly wrong/illegal". Now, if this youngster is just taking liberties with claiming his mommy's or daddy's lawn man that is another matter. I agree with Ping...I think junior here was creamed by an A4 while he was driving mommie's Genesis. There is simply no excuse I can come up with for the "Mexican" reference other than this young tyke being either really stupid, a racist, or possibly just low class trailer-trash.

Back on topic though... the 1.8T I drove a couple of times WAS significantly faster than my 2.8L... but I don't remember it being "7-sec" kind of fast.

I could be wrong.

Hell my '06 Sonata goes to 60 in around 6.7 seconds.:D I get what you're sayin' though.

Back to the beginning, dont beat up on the new guy. He's just trying to be a competitor. I know for a fact, my friends a4 isnt as slow as an elantra (no offense). I recently drove a 08 a4 2.0 and it was alright, if my friend had a newer a4 he'd beat me.
