  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Weird issues with 2009 Genesis: Flaky Accel & Rearview cam

No kidding huh?

This is no joke: similar to your friend.

They are doing road work right outside my apartment building and stripped the top layer of bituminous concrete: aka asphalt. There is probably a 2.5" elevation difference between the stripped road and where the original road picks back up. The construction crew didn't "feather" in the different elevations.

Anyway, its 6:00am and I'm approaching the sharp elevation change - I slow down to about 5mph so I don't hurt my baby- I see some punk approaching behind me and then floors his shitbox to go around because I was going to slow for him - as my rear tires made it up the lip his front tires about where my rear wheels were. I stuffed the gas because I was thinking, "I ain't letting this guy get in front of me".

The Genesis hesitated and the guy flew by me. The end of the road was only 100' away so I needed that "quick" reaction. I didn't get that. What I got was a long draaaaawn out response. My only gripe with the Genesis is the throttle response.

Sorry for the long story.
Uhhh.... I don't know if I want the Genesis.

If it does have the poor throttle response it's worthless for me. Maybe it's the traction control system that caused it? Did you turn off the traction / stability control and see if the throttle response is improved regardless of driving conditions?

Please respond quickly as I hate waiting.... thanx

I have not tested it with the ESC button off or with the ESC mod. Sometimes I find myself in traffic not making the "move" because of the delay. It really bugs the crap out of me.... I'm still on the fence about getting the sprint booster... I'm wondering if that will cure this problem.

You can literally smash the pedal to the floor and let go and the car won't go anywhere...

So if I understood right does this happen even when the road is clean and dry? I guess what I'm asking is does it happen just about at all times in traffic?

When I test drove the 2010 model a month ago I didn't notice the throttle delay.. it drove like normal.

If anybody has the back up camera "black view" get it noted at your dealership.

I also had the issue and took it in found a loose wire and it was repaired.

but...

6 months later it came back occasionally.

The dealer then decided to have change it out and had to be orrderd they gave me a 2011 Sonata for 4 days and haven't had a problem since.

This has been a the only major issue with the Genesis other than changing the tires 7k ago

I had the frequent black screen issue with my 2010, they changed the camera....and that did not fix it. After a few days, Hyundai shipped in a new display unit. Now no problems with camera.

I find that it happens all the time. When cruising at 65 mph and then punching it there is a delay. I usually only punch it when I need to make a quick move... I find that my 4 speed 2001 Olds Aurora did this better than my 6 speed Genesis.

Thanks and my $.02. I have the EXACT symptoms w/ my V6 tech. My head will actually bob slightly forward and aft with the cruise on due to slight acceleration and decleration. Now I get to watch dealer service roll their eyes at me when I show them a copy of this thread. Wish me luck and a new throttle position sensor.

On a 2011 V8, I have this lag when driving in the city with lots of stop signs/red lights. Whenever I start from a stop sign there is the "loop" feeling and then the engine kicks in. It does this on and off between 0 and 25 mph. It is the only complaint I have about the car. Being that the majority of my drive is on roads like this, it makes me paranoid that there is something wrong with the car but I think it was made to do this from this message board.

Well, oh, wow, it's happening with the 2011 model too? Well then that is a very serious problem for me. I cannot afford to have big delays like that... I think I'm gonna have to go BMW 335i or 135i route.... also thinking about the 370z but I can't seem to accept the ugly dashboard.:(

Best bet is to test drive one for yourself and drive it pretty hard. If you can take the car out on your own that would be better.

I also had the rear camera issue. I noticed quite by accident that if I slammed the trunk lid down the camera started working. I informed my service department of this find and they unconnected and reconnected all the wiring that interfaced with the camera in the trunk. Since they accomplished this, about two months ago, I have had no similar issues with the camera.:

I have noticed the "lag" in the drive by wire setup on this car. But I do think the ESC is part of it. Throttle seems to react faster with it turned off (but at low speeds of course you get spin).

However I can say that it is no worse than the lag in any other drive by wire car I've driven (all happen to be nissan/infiniti's but they had it....04 G35 coupe, and 09 GTR).

The traction control on the infiniti was really intrusive. If the steering wheel were turned at all or you were touching the brake and gas at same time, you got basically no response from throttle...top gear affectionetly refers to that as, "Throttle by committee" lol

I had the problem with the backup camera... I noticed that it happened after I had opened and closed the trunk...

I pulled the liner and found a loose wire... Fixed that and the problem hasn't repeated since...

I got the same problem. Very very intermittent. But this evening, I open/close firmly the trunk and the problem don't fix itself. I decided to pulled off (not completely) the liner and I didn't see anything wrong, but I shake, squeeze the connector to be sure wire are crimp together. I put the tranny (without engine running) in reverse and the camera back to live ! It's really connections problems, only wires in the trunk. I hope problem will not come up again. Otherwise I will solder wire together :D

I also had the problem with the rear camera. It kept working intermittently.

I took it to the dealer and they said the problem was an open circuit.

It was replaced under warranty.

Have not had a problem since.

I feel the weird lag in my 2010 4.6 w/Tech. It's as if the car downshifted and it's engine braking, but there was no downshift. Sometimes it's REALLY apparent, and other times it feels like it doesn't happen at all. Often I'll just find if I ease off the pedal slightly I can feel it - as if I drove into air that was made of mollasses and I had to push my way through it. It's strange. Is this what you were feeling, OP?

Also, I should say that it doesn't annoy me too much. It's weird and frustrating at times, but I just use the brute force method and apply more gas and go faster - then I don't notice :)

I've experienced it as well, it's like the car is going uphill but i'm on a even road. Just pressing the gas pedal increases my RPM which uses up more gas which i don't like. I definetly think it's a downshifting problem with the transmission.

Does anyone else have the weird acceleration issue?

I had it with my '09 3.8. Turned out to be the throttle position sensor. Mine did that for a good while. One day on the freeway it went into limp mode(from 70 to 20). Took it to dealer and they replaced the sensor. Problem cured.
