Transmission fluid change on 2012 Genesis

#3...Holy SH*T. That seems super high. At 89,000+/- miles I had initial transmission done for $199.00 and rear diff done for $99.00. Next one will done by me along with changing the transmission filter/pan. There is a guy on Youtube that does his own transmissions for his Genesis and Equus vehicles and is a genius. Different guy that does his diff service and he makes it look super easy.

Yea, i am around 82,000 miles. Toyota was just because I was getting inspection done and they failed it (and license plate bulb that they wanted $50 but was able to get it done myself for $6 for 6 bulbs lol.). They said they'd have to get the whole thing and from Hyundai so it would be expensive.

Link to the Video that shows the Transmission service? For $199 I will get it done there if the items above seem ok. Thanks in advance.

First service is just a drain and fill. Only about 4 quarts comes out and they refill. The other x quarts is trapped inside and is circulated with new fluid. Will try and get that video link soon. Busy now with a few things.

I hope the link shows up. This gent keeps servicing and draining the fluid to cycle out the older fluid which cleans the entire transmission. Hope this helps. I will be doing this same process before changing the pan/filter assembly.

Ha, yes thats the one I saw and he was on his 7th flush/fill and was planning on doing 9 to get it all out! I can do the service but just did not want to do it that many times; I guess his overkill and probably a larger tranny with mine being a Genesis 3.8 8 Trans?

Thanks for the link and yea, I'll see how motivated I am doing it but for $199 the Kia option isnt a bad one.

Any idea on the Rear Diff link if there is one? Havent seen one.

As previously explained, the OEM drain and service only does the 4 quarts meaning there is still dirty fluid. With your mileage it will be acceptable.

Would be good to find out whether you can just pump fluid into the fill hole until it runs out with the car shut off, or if you have to then start the car and pump more in until it starts flowing out with the engine running. That would be a pretty significant difference in the amount of fluid you would need.

Hey Jep604,

Thanks for the links and I started the Diff fluid change but the drain plug bolt is so rusted that pieces are coming off. I was able to break lose the fill and drain bolts but cant put them back on else risk never getting them out lol. Slight emergency on what size bolts those are and if Hyundai or Kia will have those bolts in stock for me to pick them up (Sizing? if anyone knows).

I'll post a flare on the diff change thread someone started with the above videos as well.

Differential Fill Washer: Part No.: 53084-39000
Differential Drain Washer: Part No.: 53072-39000
Drain plug Part No.: 53070-39000
Fill plug Part No: 53082-3C000

Mobil 1 Synthetic Gear Lubricant LS 75W-90, 2 Quarts
Fill= 28 ft lbs conversion from 4 ~ 6 kgf.m
Drain= 34 ft lbs conversion from 5 ~ 7 kgf.m

24MM or 15/16 Socket with a 3" or 6" extension bar to get to the Fill plug at least.

Probably wise to replace the fill and drain plugs and gaskets. Were you able to buy them locally or from a vendor?

Not yet as the part number search was all done last night so waiting for the closest dealership to open at 9AM.

BTW, none of the dealers near me have this or any of the 4 pieces listed in stock. I ordered it online but wont have it until 24th or even later . I am traveling so for now have left the car on jack stands and ramps .

If anyone in San Diego, Orange County or near Philly have any idea to get this sooner I am traveling and can find a way to pick this up at a reasonable cost, at least the drain plug 53070-39000.
