  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Disappearing Genesis Dealerships

As of now no Hyundai dealer is allowed to service a genesis, they are unable to order parts for them, we just finished our stand-alone genesis dealership in Utah.
Stand alones only? Hard to believe. Too many other Hyundai stores selling Genesis brand.

Update: others are correct, my Hyundai/Genesis dealer is now Hyundai only. No work being done on any Genesis.

Do some searching here. This is a list of stand-alone dealers and more will be opening. They are finally doing what they intended to do back in 2016 but the Hyundai franchise dealers took them to court.

Start here:
That has been a major problem. Hopefully the decision by many Hyundai dealerships to give up their Genesis gig will be positive: we will get standalone dealerships that want to provide quality sales and service like the German competitors. Of course, it could equally be the equivalent of fine ocean front property in Arizona.

Canada seems to be the same - my location just split from a previously shared Hyundai location and built their own stunning Genesis-only shop.

In the Chicago area, there no less than 6-7 Hyundai/Genesis stores and 2 stand alones. We are fortunate to have options here. Might be why I've had good experiences.

Tough balancing act. What population is needed to support a stand alone dealer? How many Hyundai dealers in that area are still selling them? You have to close some of them out to support the Genesis only dealer. One you guess at that, you then have to come up with timing to close out some, open one, and not piss off too many customers in the meantime.

Which is better, a Hyundai dealer that gives me crappy service but is 10 minutes away, or the Genesis dealer that give me good service that is 60+ miles away?

That's what I was thinking. I wonder how honest they would be if they do have plans to no longer sell Genesis. I didn't want to purchase just to find out a few weeks later then will no longer be able to service Genesis.
It appears that the downtown location is still open:

But it has a relatively tiny number of new vehicles in stock: 33 according to the website. By contrast, for example, Genesis of Scottsdale shows 163 new cars in stock.

I think it is a chicken and an egg issue. I see tons of Genesis vehicles here and the dealer is stocked with cars. But, at least for me, the service has been excellent...what I would expect from a luxury car dealer. I have no way of knowing why we have so many Genesis cars around here (lots of BMWs, MBs, Audis and Lexi as well) but I suspect that it might have to do with having good service. Until very recently, Genesis of Scottsdale was inside of the Hyundai dealership. They have since moved the showroom to a mall about 4 miles away. But I think this demonstrates that while stand alone dealerships are desirable, quality service is not necessarily a function of whether the store is standalone or inside a Hyundai store.

Around where I live Penske runs almost all the import luxury dealerships out of one extensive location: Porsche, Audi, BMW, JLR, MB, Ferrari, etc. And they give excellent service. The competition might be what is driving the good service at the Genesis dealership.

Nothing like competition to keep you on your toes.

Yes, being friends with a couple of GMs, they hate poor Google reviews. One gave my son 2 oil changes to change the review after they corrected the issue.

I think they all do. That is why if things go south for one of us at a dealership, reaching out to the GM and noting that you wanted to see if they can resolve this without you doing a review can be helpful.

Maybe the GMA dealer's association should try that approach with J. D. Power :ROFLMAO:

I honestly try to use the chain of command, however starting at the top certainly gets faster results.

I agree and do so also. That is what I meant by things going south. Not just the car is broken but the service experience was broken too and the service associate and service manager did resolve the problem. Sometimes I know that the lover level employee had no ability to do what I wanted so in those instances, I specifically point out that the SA had tried to resolve it for me but apparently needed help at a higher level.
