Playing music from USB Drive

First, it's funny that I used my sunshade for the first time in a while yesterday and noticed the improved sound, as well.
It was a dramatic improvement.
I'm now curious if the sibilance is a result of the center channel's reliance on windshield reflection.
In my research, there was mention of that causing problems (e.g., tweeters pointing up at the windshield causing issues).

I am still unable to figure out how to muffle that center channel in such a way as to retain the interior aesthetic.
My knee-jerk solution would be to remove the speaker grill and place a piece of black art paper inside the grill (so the speaker cannot contact it while moving).
I'm unable to perform the surgery to do this, however, so it's just a guess.

As for the 8K song limit, if your phone is the source the limit does not appear to be an issue.

In both cases I normally set the fader to all up front on this system I set it to 10 to 15% rear and the 85 to 90% up front. This engaged the front door speakers a little more for a wider sound stage and less center. Oddly both vehicles had the Lexicon system but the GV sounds worlds better, less energy from the center and wider sound stage. I prefer the Reference setting to the other options too.

I'm confused... can you explain your settings again, or post a picture of them?
I have mine rear biased by 1-2 steps, to try and disengage the center.
I also have it set "reference".
I'm still not pleased.

I found this: it's an old thread but it looks very similar to our dash. I poked around the dash this morning and it feels like there's a lip for the grille when you squish sides. I've got some trim removal tools so might give it a try. Just worried about it as I bought the car 3 DAYS AGO.

100% front biased the center ch was too strong maintaining a strong front 80 to 90 % front and slightly moving back just a little bit reduced some of the energy/ strength of the center improving the sound stage. The G70 oddly nothing helped and the GV70 is now reasonable can't understand why, too bad really. But these experiences left me never wanting to buy a Lexicon⁷ product again typical Harmon products.

Alright, in regards to removing the speaker grille on the dash- IT'S EASY.
I just disconnected the dash speaker. The line is so short you can just leave as is, it's not going anywhere.
Sibillance is SIGNIFICANTLY decreased. This was absolutely worth it. Phone, media and nav still work perfect.

Use a trim removal tool. There are notches you can use to pop the grille up.



Don't worry about unplugging the connector on the grille, just move to the side


The windshield rake is too steep to use a screwdriver, so use an 8mm ratchet. There's only 2 screws. Be careful not to accidentally hit the windshield w/ your ratchet.


Lastly, just push in the little tab in on the connector then pull away and voila, the speaker is disconnected.


Then put it all back together. Pops back in real easy. This was so refreshing to work on after my previous overengineered German cars.

Completely agree on the ixnay of the CCray.
Just putting a piece of thick paper on top of it dramatically improved stereo imaging and eliminated the sibilance issue.
For now, however, I've gone against my better judgement and have turned on "Audience" mode, however, I've pushed the fader one or two notches back (can't recall exactly).
Moving the fade back seems to cancel out some of the fake sounding effects, and reduced some of the phasing issues, while also having the benefit of almost completely eliminating the sibilance for any tracks that I can't get in 192/24 (which might be redundant), but there's no rule against having too many bits...

I'm going to have a conversation with the SM at my dealer and see if I can't get a meeting with a regional person to escalate some of these sound system issues.
I'm still seriously annoyed at how they've kneecapped the system with year 2000 features...

Example:
8000 song limit
NO playlist support except with BT, AA or CarPlay.
The playlist issue is bad because if you copy playlist songs into playlist folders, there may be duplicate songs.
I have 30-40 playlists, resulting in 1K+ (not kidding, the playlists are system generated) duplicates.
So, my 2TB USB drive, which I used to have my entire library on, with playlists, in my Audi, is now ~25% full.

The technical aspect of this thread is over my head, but I know what sounds better.

I am also running 'Audience' and adjusted my fade back and biased to the right a little. Seems to fill the cabin and give more depth to any genre I play.

One of the little thing I didn't realize until after purchasing the car is that the USB under the infotainment cluster is the only USB port in the car that can play music and it is the only USB port in the car that can activate CarPlay or Android Auto. A few questions for those of you that play music off your USB drive. Have any of you tried a USB hub/splitter so you can use a USB drive for music and USB cable for maps (or other functions) via CarPlay/Android Auto at the same time? I realize most people are going to say - why don't you just play your music off your phone instead of USB? I understand that is a logical response. However, with the Lexicon sound system, the difference in sound between high quality song files off the USB vs. through iTunes or the phone or other service is pretty huge. So...until i bite the bullet or give up trying, has anyone had any luck using a USB hub/splitter to use both simultaneously? What hub did you use? Secondly, for anyone that plays music via USB, have you noticed any differences in speed or load time when the vehicle starts? Since I upgraded nav last week, the time it takes to start playing music from the USB is about 10-15 seconds, whereas it previously was fairly quick. If you're not experiencing this, what size and speed USB flash drive are you using? Before I go buy a different one, wanted to see if anyone had any perspective. Thanks!

New to the forums, waffling on obtaining a Genesis, but still sore about the lack of wireless android auto. Id also Like to play my flac using usb if possible. Anyone try a basic A B USB switch? One end the wireless android auto adapter, the other a flash drive? Amazon.com

Why not just load your FLAC files onto your phone and play it from there?

A manual A/B switch should work, but you could only do one at a time, so it would seem to be of minor value.

I think the issue might be is that the g70 only has one live USB port and that is the main port on the dash. Plugging a USB key into one of the charging ports does nothing

Yes, but I still don't see the advantage. Plug it into the switch or into the port, you can still only use one thing at a time, so use the flash drive and can't use the wireless adapter, or use the wireless adapter and can't use the flash drive.

Flac drives are very heavy storage. I think he may be concerned about the phone capacity to store the flac drives on?

I just purchased the carlinkit 5.0 for wireless carplay (v 5.0 also now has dedicated android auto but I haven't tested that flow yet). I can plug in a usb on the other end of the carlinkit. when i'm disconnected from carplay wireless, my car does pick up the usb drive and plays music from my usb.

Mount it on the top part of the charging area, out of sight. Usage example: Wirelessly listening to android auto during a drive and hear a track that makes me wish to listen to the whole album in high quality. Just have to tap the button to switch to the USB drive. (I'm just not sure it will continue at track location during a stop)

Benefits: Not taking up space on my mobile device. Not using up data which accumulates really fast using lossless. Still benefit from wireless android auto, so I can keep my phone in my pocket, only using wireless charging as needed (or my earpods)


The CarPlay Ai Box seems like an elegant solution, Im just a bit concerned about reliability and security. The Motorola and AAWireless are a bit more established/mainstream.
