  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

The Genesis Bluetooth Audio ECHO Issue Discussion

I

I tried your trick, it still doesn't work, the person on the other end can still get the echo
Is your AVN up to date? In my experience, a volume between 10-20 is the best zone without/less echo.

What's AVN? I updated the latest infotainment software that was available here in Canada and so is my ios :)

Oh AVN is the head unit, meaning the monitor in the car.

Having the exact same issue. Was fine until I updated the AVN today. It’s not Bluetooth related. I figured out a long time ago when using CarPlay to not connect to Bluetooth so phone is not paired. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS ISSUE FOR ME. I love by Genesis but such is enough for me to walk away and go back to Audi. I’m an executive and spend many hours behind the wheel on my phone. PLEASE resolve this issue!

I've had this same issue since day one with the GV70. Researched it a bit but unable to find a solution. I think it's a little bit of blame on Airplay and a little bit on Genesis. My phone using CarPlay has no echo when I'm in the GMC, Jaguar or Ford. Only an echo with the Genesis. But the echo also does not happen when I use bluetooth in the Genesis but does a bit with the Ford.

If rumors are true and we will get wireless CarPlay in the GV70 it will be interesting to know if the echo remains. I sure hope not. As of now I have a work around of using Bluetooth. Time will tell.

Where is the rumor about wireless carplay? Has Genesis posted anything formally about this? I really want this feature, so I can then use my USB stick for playing FLACs and 320 MP3s. This would be perfect.

“The report says that wireless CarPlay and Android Auto could also come to cars that are already on the road via a software update, but the details here are a bit sparse.”

Any idea if we can downgrade the software installed? Meaning, can we install a previous version to replace the current version which introduced the bug?

I tested the theory that it happens when both bluetooth and carplay are in use. This is incorrect. Even when I disabled bluetooth connection to the infotainment system, the echo was still there. And it's exactly at volume 20. If I set volume to 19, 18, 17, or below, there is no echo. I set it to 21, 22, 23, or higher and there is an echo.

Genesis should roll out OTA updates more often than twice a year in Spring and Fall. That's ridiculous, especially if their development team is introducing bugs with the software. They should be doing patches like every other company these days. They obviously know there is an issue and it's affecting everyone using carplay through their infotainment system. Build the patch, push it over OTA and have happier customers.

Most companies that are releasing more frequent updates are software companies. Because Genesis is a car company with a software department I’m guessing they will continue to release updates as map updates are available/released.

No, we can't.

The only workaround that I've discovered is to switch to the iPhone speaker while I'm on a call while using Carplay. It's the only solution that I've found to address the echo issue for the caller on the other side and still be able to hear the conversation (volume <20). Fortunately, the iPhone speakers are pretty good.

This started for me in my G80 after the most recent update as well. No echo when using bluetooth, only carplay.

Mine doesn't work at all. And yes I do believe it is trivial because in other luxury cars that have owned it will mute the music for the navigation prompts to be heard when you're using navigation the same can be done with passenger talk. Although mine appears to be worthless along with a lot of other features this car is supposed to offer. I think it's a piece of shit car or manufacturer personally. Stick with Lexus that's what I'm going to do.

Add me to the folks with the terrible echo problem. I’ve had this issue since the Nov update in my GV70. I’m getting more and more unhappy with Genesis’s lack of response to system bugs when they come to light. I’m up to three now.

1. The “Preparing Sirius/XM” dancing dominoes on the split screen display. Only way to fix it is a system reboot. Been going on since the car was new. Response from Genesis so far: silence.

2. Unable to get the Genesis Pay app to work in the car even though it appears to be correctly set up in the phone app. Have had an open ticket with Genesis for months now. Response from Genesis: silence.

3. The terrible phone echo problem since at least last November. Response from Genesis: silence.

They didn’t even really ever offer any explanation or apology to the thousands of users who had their profiles erased because some idiot at Hyundai/Genesis pushed a broken software update out last October.

Overall their response to software issues has been abysmal. It is really beginning to detract from an otherwise great car. Sad.

Negativity, and won't even register with a name. COWARD!
Don't let the car door hit you on the way out!
