Well, first off, I was nervous about buying this car, and already my fears are coming true. And of course the problem occurred on my first road trip where I was headed to my brothers and in the boonies in PA when my gas gauge all the sudden went to E with the light blinking, and than my CEL came on.

Was pretty sure I had at least 1/2 tank so I didn't know what happened. I was only 10 mins from my destination but figured I'd better be sure. Quick checked the closest gas station which was 15 minutes away. Drove there and it only took 6 gallons to fill up, so at least I knew I actually still had gas.

Drove back home the next day which was 3 hours of driving with the gas light blinking and CEL light on. Immediately scheduled service at the Genesis dealer I bought if from and dropped it off the next day.

So they looked at it and said it was the gas sending unit and they ordered it and it should be here in 5 days. FFWD almost 2 weeks later they finally got the part installed and the problem persists. Now they are saying they think it's the driver side? fuel pump but they are back ordered so they are going to try to remove one from one of their new cars on the lot.

Mind you I have not had a loaner all this time, so I told them I am going to finally need a loaner. She said ok and called back and offered me a Hyundai Tucson. I said I would have expected another Genesis. She thought I requested the Tucson, I said no that wasn't me. SO now I have to call tomorrow to see what they have available to loan me.

Back to the problem I don't see how it would be the fuel pump because the car still drove fine 300 miles after the problem happened. She said the next step would be the whole gauge cluster could be the problem.

It seems whatever code the car is giving out is not telling them what the problem is? Not sure how that can be. But I'm very disappointed already in Genesis. How does this happen to an almost brand new car?? I've read so many horror stories online for Genesis, but I was like Hyundai and Kia have been around a long time now and you see them everywhere. This is the luxury division so they can't be that bad.

I fear that I made a big mistake buying this car, and already looking into Lemon Law. If it's there 30 days I will pursue that.

I really like the car, it's very smooth, fast, beautiful interior, luxurious with tons of features, nice looking, unique....But I need something I can count on.

For the record it's a fully loaded 2023 G70 3.3T AWD Prestige. Just purchased it a couple months ago with 590 miles on it as a CPO from a local Genesis dealer. (Genesis of the South Shore here on Long Island, NY)

CPO with just 600 miles on the clock ?? That seems very odd, does CarFax list it as having been titled before you ?

I just checked the carfax and it was manufactured in Sep 2023 and sold by Atlantic Hyundai in Nov. 2023 and apparently purchased by Genesis of the South Shore as a commercial vehicle....these are the same dealerships, lol. They have Hyundai, Toyota and Genesis there. So I am not sure exactly what they did. But they told me it was used as a loaner.

I can tell you that it was so new I still had to peel off plastic and stickers. I can also tell you when I was there looking, they had a lot of G70's on their lot! Many I saw had BAD scratch marks on the paint. Was terrible for new cars. Mine was pretty much flawless.

Hmm, still smells funny to me, dealers don't typically 'retire' loaners with so few miles !

Yeah I hear you. I think maybe what they do is the cars they use as loaners they have up for sale at the same time.

Just picked up my loaner, it's a 2024 G70 3.3T AWD Prestige w/220 miles, in bright blue. Really pretty color!!
I'm not sure whether I prefer the new digital control panel or not. Also odd how they swapped the side the steering wheel controls are on.
But I love the color. I might want to keep this one, haha.

So my service rep Virginia (Very sweet girl by the way) just called me and said the car is all fixed. She said she accidentally said fuel pump, but what it actually was, was 2 gas gauge sensors that are on the fuel pump that of course sense and communicate the fuel level.

Ok so that wasn't too bad. I just hope when I pick up my car there are no dents or dings, or no additional miles on the car. That will be the last test on how their service department did. Hopefully all goes well on the pickup tomorrow, and hopefully it's smooth sailing from here on out.

Fingers crossed!

PS - Kinda sad to have to give the loaner back. I really wish I bought blue now, it's just beautiful and suits me better. Ah well, maybe next time.

I thought I would absolutely love the new gauge cluster but once I saw it in person, I had the same opinion... Not sure if it was better or not.

Glad they got it sorted. The car is really good!

First off let me say that I am absolutely NOT here to bash anyone or any company. This is the vehicle I chose and I paid a lot of money for it. I'd like nothing more than to sing it's praises, and I'd also like nothing more than to sing the praises of my Genesis service department. My purpose here is very simply to share the facts of my experience(s), good or bad.

So I made my 2nd hour+ trip to my dealer this weekend (30+ mins each way). This time of course to return my loaner and pick up my car. Service had left my keys with sales as the service department is closed on Sundays. Went in, got my keys, all went smoothly...until I started my car...only to see that the CEL is STILL on! The good news is the gas gauge is now in fact working, but again, the CEL is still on.

I'm sorry but it really baffles me, how in the world could the tech have said the car is fixed? I mean it was specifically there because the CEL was on along with the gas gauge not working. How can someone say it's fixed if the CEL is still on?? So I went right back in and gave my keys back and got the key back for the loaner and drove the blue '24 back home.

Total waste of time and gas.

On a side note, I also noticed something with my loaner when I got out of it. The plastic trim on the one taillight is peeling off and sticking out a little bit. How does this happen with a brand new car? I'm really starting to have concerns about the build quality. It's so disappointing because it's such a damn nice car.

And on a personal note, it's a little embarrassing in terms of my friends, family and coworkers, explaining how my virtually brand new car is still in the shop. Especially for my fiance, who's 2015 Accord Sport we purchased brand new and has 160k miles and has been basically flawless. I'm already tired of her telling me how "ridiculous" this is, lol.

All that said I am not going to leave a bad review of my service department of Genesis. I know all too well how "sh*t happens" and I'm not some ball buster looking to put them down in any way. We're all human and mistakes happen. All I can do is share my experiences, and hope that it all works out in the end. They have had their hiccups but they have been polite and treated me well. Fingers crossed things go smoother from now on....

Yeah, that is terrible. I'd be very pissed off.
Maybe the CEL was off when the tech parked it and then when you started it, it came back on? Either way, I would think that it would have to have been cleared? Unless something else is wrong with the car now? Hopefully not. Man, this is terrible.

Good luck! I hope it all gets resolved soon so you can enjoy the car. I bought mine brand new back in 2023 and I am in LOVE with the car. 2023 G70 Sport Prestige with awd.

The part that makes this difficult is the dealer network in the USA. Different story here in Canada. I had a couple issues with both of my G70s when new but the dealer took care of them (well... 95% -- another discussion) and no issues since. I will say that even though the dealer situation is pretty good here, they still don't actually understand fully what it is to be a luxury car dealership. Still trying to bridge that gap beween Hyundai and Genesis but they are making progress! The USA dealers seem far behind....

In terms of the cars reliability, I think it's really pretty good considering all of the technology, twin turbos, DI, 8 speed auto etc... It's not going to be 4cyl Toyota reliable but for the "type" and "class" it competes in, it's really pretty good.

I'm a huge fan of the G70!

Anyways, hopefully your experience improves and you grow to love and trust the car and dealer.

P.S> Genesis - if you read these threads, I recommend you have someone join these discussions. It would go a long way to creating a brand following and resolving issues. People on these boards know their stuff.

There's no excuse for this nonsense and it's another example of why GMA dealers are ranked last in the J D Power surveys for Customer Service.

Sorry to hear of your troubles. Yeah that would be upsetting for sure. We're lucky we haven't had to mess with the service dept so far, in 3yrs of ownership. We don't even bother with the complimentary service. Way less hassle just to do all the simple stuff ourselves, and zero chance of things done wrong at the dealership.

That said, this is the first time I've heard of this problem, so not a common issue. Sounds like your particular G70 just drew the short straw. FWIW, there is always the lemon law, as the last resort. Here in Texas, having to fix 4 times for the same problem triggers Lemon Law. You might want to check NY State's statue... just in case.

Lastly, I'm the same way with the digital dash. I don't mind it either way. Only thing nice about Hyundai's implementation is the blind spot camera coming on with turn signal. Otherwise, the flat panel is a "meh".

So I called this morning at 9:00am and got voice mail and left a message reiterating the CEL is still on and asking for a call back.
Never received a call back and their service department is now closed.

I don't think I'm going to continue to waste my time calling them. I have a loaner to put miles on while mine sits, and it's the same exact car just a year newer. So, I'm good.

Also, I believe NY Lemon law is simply 30 days in the shop with no fix for a new(ish) vehicle (purchased, leased, or transferred within the earlier of 18,000 miles or two years from the date of original delivery.)

So the ball is fully in their court. Let's see what they do with it.

My only gripe with that is you're paying for the car that you cannot drive.
But, I can bet you if you keep driving their loaner car and keep putting miles on it,......they will want their car back and hopefully fix the issue once and for all!

Good luck!
Keep us posted.

Thank you, sir! And yes I will continue to update the thread as events transpire.

In the meantime, I am enjoying this Blue '24....have to say it again, it's a really beautiful color to my eyes, especially in the sun. It REALLY pops. I also think the new wheels are quite nice looking in person, as well. And I like the way the red Brembo calipers goes with the wheels and the blue paint.

Also another word on that new lower digital climate control screen they put in the 24's. I have to say after getting out of the 24 and when I got back in to my '23 on Sunday, I definitely prefer the 23 with the big knurled aluminum knobs. It just looks more quality and overall makes the interior look better in my opinion. The new digital touch screen is very easy to use and works well, and looks... kinda cool, but in a way I think it looks kinda cheap the way they did it. It just looks like a cheap stuck-on part. I think it needs either stitched leather, or aluminum-esque type trim around it or something, I don't know. But my fiance agreed that she thought it looked kinda cheap too. Still a sweet car overall though.

Ok so Virgina called me today and confirmed my CEL was still on. She doesn't know what happened or why, but she said they looked at it and the CEL is now off.

I'm thinking maybe they just forgot to reset the CEL for the gas censor code? Not sure, but she said the car is good to go now. Only thing is their dealership is West and I work East so I can't pick up until this Saturday which she said was OK.

I just asked if on Saturday that she could check to ensure the CEL is off before I make the trip, which she said would be no problem. Again, Virginia is very sweet...she does seem to get a little flustered, but I think she is doing her best.

One other thing I forgot to mention was when I went to P/U the car last Saturday it was freshly washed and (Possibly) waxed with fresh tire shine, etc, which I appreciated.

Will update thread on Saturday!

Also odd how they swapped the side the steering wheel controls are on.
That is a pet peeve of mine. I don't care which side has which controls but don't change them!!!!

As far as I can remember, all the Hyundai/Kia/Genesis vehicles I've had all had audio/info control on the left and cruise control on the right. All of a sudden swapping sides makes zero sense.

Agreed. I'm really curious as to their reasons.

That said, I have only been driving this loaner for 6 days and I am already fully used to it. So it was at least a quick learning curve for me. Now, someone that's been driving these vehicle for many years I can see taking longer to get used to. And of course I'll have to relearn when I pick up my '23 this Saturday :)
