  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

GV70 2.5 rear end noise

Interesting...I've had two rear diffs replaced and the throttle body as well...and the steering rack... I noticed my first rear diff noise almost immediately at 1200 KM. It was fine until about 20,000 KM then it went again. I probably have more miles on mine than average...now have 28,000 KM.
Hoping I don’t have the recurrence but if I do, I’ll be sure to post.

Just saw this thread, and I had the issue as well. There's a TSB for it. I had the fix 3K miles ago and so far still perfect. Image attached...

I hear a lot about the TSB - which I also had them address, but I still had another rear diff go since they did that, so it isn't a fix. They admitted they don't have a fix...and don't appear to be working on one.

I had to have the bolt tightened for the second time when I just went in for my 3rd oil change last week.

I have a feeling there won't be a fix until there is a massive lawsuit filed.

Well, it seems this problem is happening worldwide, not only in U.S-shipped Genesis cars. Very disappointing.

I got the 2.5 prestige 2023, bought in Saudi Arabia at a local dealer, and the issue started to appear around 3,000 km. I thought it was normal at first till it became distinguishable enough to hear even when some loud music was on.

Wasn’t sure what the reason was, but luckily I now do after finding this thread. I will take it to the dealer, and hope a one replacement of the rear diff will fix it for good.

Thank you all for the updates and inputs.

It’s been a while now, but I’m getting my rear diff replaced again, for the third time…. I mean to say I’m disappointed is an understatement. Clearly GV70 has part problem, and Genesis refuses to acknowledge it and initiate recall.
I thought I’ll keep the car for 8-10 years, but with this nagging problem - no chance. Unless Genesis does something about it. However I don’t hold my breath…
Car drives great, looks awesome and has right from the get go part defect that ruins whole experience. Just painfull…

Have 19000 miles on my 22 GV70 2.5t Advanced, and after having the Rear Differential replaced in Jan. at 12000 miles, the "whining" noise between 50 and 55 MPH under acceleration has returned. My question has anyone had a breakdown caused by the Rear Differential yet? If the noise is the only issue, I can live with it, but is there will be future problem breakdown, than I will have it replaced again. Thanks for any imput.

It isn't just an annoying sound...there are metal filings in the differential fluid. Mechanics have shown me that when it happened to mine. That means at some point it will seize up and maybe take the transmission with it. You cannot ignore it.

I have suggested a couple of times they need to provide a lifetime warranty to original owners for this part...Hyundai/Kia have already set that precedent with their engine issues.

Hey, how’s your rear diff holding up? I remember you had your fair share of issues with it..

I also have about 19k on my 23 GV70 2.5t Prestige. My rear diff was replaced and then the issue eventually came back again. The second time there was a service bulletin that had them do some adjustments instead of replacing. Surprisingly they worked and it’s been a while (knock on wood) and it hasn’t returned. I had asked previously what would happen if not fixed and they said it would continue to get louder and louder. You may want to see if they can try the steps on the bulletin.

Thanks for the info on the service bulletin. Can you share the details of the bulletin? I had read in this forum that tightening of one of the nuts in the Rear Differential was tried.

I think someone had posted the actual bulletin on this forum somewhere, but from what I recall it was mainly about tightening a certain bolt to a specific torque. The dealer should be able to find it. I was very doubtful that it would work given my laundry list of other reoccurring issues, but it surprisingly worked and it’s been a while.

I've gone about 10,000 KM with non issues so far...

I had that issue as well but the noise was a bit different...it hummed when coasting at highway speed. I still ended up getting another rear diff replaced after they tightened the bolt, so I don't think it fixed the problem.

My last replacement lasted about 25k or a year and a bit, but now it’s back. Unless this issue is dealt with completely new redesigned part replacement (which is not..) - it will come back eventually, it’s just a matter of time.

Yeah, maybe then it would be a keeper…
Until then - it’s not. It’s a shame really, cause other than that car is blast to drive, and easy on eyes too.

Just got my 22 GV70 2.5t back finally after 2 weeks at the dealer for my second attempt at fixing the Rear Differential hum. First time they replaced the Rear Differential unit, this time following a TSB, they replaced some bolts. Only time will tell if this fix works.
