  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

G70 aftermarket brake pads

Just wanted to report back on Dynamic Friction 5000 series low metallic pads. Have about 6k miles on them thus far and have been a nice upgrade from the factory Brembo pads. Have better initial bite and seem to have improved braking performance overall, especially when hot, and absolutely no brake judder. I did 6 braking cycles for bed in, slowing from 50 down to 10 mph increasing braking force w/ each cycle and never coming to a full stop until cooling down, and then just coasting to stop, not laying on the brakes. They dust just a bit more vs. oem, but a huge positive tradeoff. And these pads at Rockauto are about $100 for the front & rear set plus shipping.

Thanks, that's great to hear. Glad it worked out for you - especially at that price!

Has anyone experienced a clunking noise over bumps at lower speeds after installing aftermarket brake pads? Just curious because recently I noticed there is a front end clunk whenever I go over bumps, at low speeds, and when the car rocks side to side. And I also recently changed my front pads to the Hawk HPS+ (I don’t think it happened right after I changed the pads out) sway bar links are tight also

I had this happen years ago when I changed my brake pads to Powerstop. When I changed them to StopTech and thereafter also EBC, the problem went away.

I don't see how different brake pads could cause a clunking noise. 🤔 (Assuming it all got assembled properly and the pads fit properly.)

I could see how that might be more likely w/ a floating caliper since they have more to move and can apply uneven force if something is binding. Maybe the pad tolerances are excessive w/ some of the cheaper pad alternatives as well??? Can't recall ever having a brake related clunk in my vehicles over the years though.

True. Problem is... there is only one way to do it right and umpteen ways to do it wrong, or at least less than optimum.

Not all that impossible for the new pads not to sit square and snug against the old rotors. Say, the old rotors were pretty well worn and weren't resurfaced. Sometimes the brand new replacement pads will mate decently well and you get away with it; other times there are enough taper/bevel/unevenness for the new pads to move around too much... and make noise. Minor enough, it might cause a vibration. Big enough, it might click and clack.

Oh 100% but the keyword is “fit properly” ahaha if I remember correctly I think someone on this forum said it’s not a 100% fit with the Hawk pads, but it literally takes maybe 2-3mm of movement for noise to occur (Cadillac XT4s are having this issue) just figured I would see if anyone else besides one reply in another thread had the same issue. Probably by this weekend I’m gonna swap back to my DBA XP pads and see if the noise goes away, and also install those rubber washers on my sway bar

Not to insult you or state the obvious, but make sure the wheels are properly seated on the hub flange, and the bolts are torqued.
I actually forget to do that once, but caught it before getting out of the driveway. Phew.

Never had Powerstop but haven't heard too much positive reviews on them, especially on my Jeep forums. Really had good experience w/ Stop tech, EBC, as well as Wilwood, and a little bit of experience w/ Hawk, which was also positive.

I have a 2023 G70 3.3 AWD with about 8k miles, and I've had precisely the same experience when driving over rough roads or small depressions (e.g., manhole covers). It's a "clunking" or hard impact "thud" noise and it happens all the time & at any speed. It's been doing this for about a year. I took the car to the G. dealership and they replaced both front "tension arm assemblies." The result: no change at all. The clunking impact noises are still 100% present. I'm seeing on this forum that there seem to be a LOT of nearly identical gripes about the G70. I'm going to head back to the dealership (only TWO in the entire Chicagoland area - so timely customer service is essentially impossible). This is NOT acceptable in a $60k car that is otherwise terrific!
