Many factors affect a vehicle's top speed. Outside factors: wind direction, terrain,etc. The car itself: horsepower, drive-train gearing,weight, drag coefficient ,etc.You'll probably have to do it in sport mode.... with the deep overdrives in this transmission at the top end, staying in a lower gear will likely yield the highest speed as you can keep the revs up where it makes the most power.
That's probably why Car and Driver said the 3.8's top speed was gear limited, not drag limited.
I think that our 8 speed automatic provide the best power/torque in 5th gear(or whatever the 1:1 gear in manual mode).
