  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

2015 3.8 v6 top speed.

You'll probably have to do it in sport mode.... with the deep overdrives in this transmission at the top end, staying in a lower gear will likely yield the highest speed as you can keep the revs up where it makes the most power.

That's probably why Car and Driver said the 3.8's top speed was gear limited, not drag limited.
Many factors affect a vehicle's top speed. Outside factors: wind direction, terrain, etc. The car itself: horsepower, drive-train gearing, weight, drag coefficient ,etc.

I think that our 8 speed automatic provide the best power/torque in 5th gear(or whatever the 1:1 gear in manual mode).

Wind does play a big factor. I was once going 70 mph in my five speed '03 Honda Pilot, an SUV, and went head first into a strong cold front blowing south. The car shifted into third gear and ran at over 3,000 RPM for about 15 seconds. The vehicle was shifting back and forth as it buffeted in the wind. I just sat back and watched, it was a neat experience.

speed is electronically limited, you reach top speed at 6-th gear and max revs.
you have 2 more gears, so there is room to go faster, but it is limited

That's a really good point. In the US here I have never felt safe going faster than 125 too. My '15 5.0 is plenty capable of going 150. . At 105, it's quiet and you feel like you're going 80. But there are too many dangers (like you mentioned above) once you get above 120. Too much you can't anticipate.
I was in Wyoming on a freeway at the top of a hill and there was no cars coming the other direction, nothing behind me and only a dot of a car in front of me which looked to be 10 to 15 miles ahead, so I decided to see how fast my car could go. With the elevated roadway, I wasn't worried about animals coming onto the road and it was a sunny no cloud day. After 130 there is so much going by so fast that I didn't feel like I could look at the speedometer any more and it all became a blur. Before I knew it, that car that was on the horizon was very near and I was thinking what if they just changed lanes? So I gave up. It's more than 130. I'll never find out how much more.

130mph is probably faster than most drivers can safely handle ;so I understand why most automakers do not allow much more than 130mph in the US sold cars. After 145mph everything does become a blurr so no point of really doing that on a public road; hell 130mph on a public highway is asking for trouble.

Note: Many cars capable of moving faster than 130mph do not have the proper suspension, tires(performance) and brake setup to really do it safely even with so called sport packages.

Actually hit around 140mph the other day and it took a while to try and go faster so I stopped going. Definitely can go over 130mph

Be careful, unexpected stuff can happen quickly over 100 mph.

I've taken my 2015 3.8 V6 RWD Sedan to 130-135 several times. It's more than capable of doing faster though. I just don't much nerve after 135.

Guess it didn’t have the ECU reprogrammed from the tire recall.
Probably not, to be honest the cars seems to be quicker then what it should be. Have clocked 5.7 0-60 and its stock 🤷🏻‍♂️. It’s a 2015 btw too

Okay, so i got a 2015 3.8 sedan rwd used. The assembly date of the vehicle was march of 2014. My question is, is there anyway I can know if the governor limit was taken down from 155 to 130 as part of that tire recall way back without having to go and try to drive the car fast?
So I got my 2015 3.8L up to 151. I think I had more but I chickened out. Hopefully this will help you. Oh btw, I didn't bring mine in for that tire recall... Lol.. ALWAYS look up EVERYTHING that the recall is so called "fixing". They always "hide" those "fixes" that customers don't have want or need.

Thats mine to the top :)
