  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Any of you have a headliner/sunroof noise issue?

I also started having a creaking/popping noise coming from the front headliner on the second day of owning the car. Just took into a dealership and they fixed the issue but only lasted less than 24 hours. After the car sat in the sun in 85degree weather for 30minutes, the noise is back. Will post any future updates... I'm hoping they can fix the issue for good because the noise is driving me insane
I had the sunroof rattle with my 2019 G70. I probably opened it once (maybe) before the rattle started. It wasn't very loud, but annoying. Mostly in the summer. I took it to the dealer once, but the rattle didn't manifest so they couldn't do anything. Apparently at the time they claimed it was an unreported issue. RIGHT! I played the radio a lot which helped me deal with it. Fast forward to my 2023 G70. I've yet to attempt to in any way touch my sunroof. I won't even open the shade part. Sad, since I don't want to use a nice feature all because Genesis after ALL these years still apparently hasn't found a way to ensure the issue is fixed for good at the factory. We're talking at least 5 years of sunroof frustration. This might be my last G70. I've owned consecutively a 2019 G70, a 2022 GV70, and a 2023 G70. The GV70 had a sloppy shifting transmission which was bad enough for me to dump the car after owning it a year. Other than that, the GV70 was a superb SUV. My 2023 G70 is an awesome performance sedan, albeit with a suspect sunroof issue. Because I can't bring myself to "test" the sunroof.

I got my car about 2 months ago and it's really annoying (something is wrong with the clip i think). I went to the service centre and because I'm the first one, they don't know what to do.
t's an issue in korea and the people who were in charge of sunroof/headliner would come and fix it for them but I don't know what they will do in here.

I doubt they will do that, and according to people who had this problem it would make the noise again and again (unless they change the whole headliner).
I'm just scared because the mechanic said he had never done this type of fixing ( i hope it doesnt get worse).
anyways I'll see how it goes and tell you guys the results!
i have same problem with my 2023 G70 2.0
i hear noise from passenger side roof between B and C pillar.
the dealer can not figure it out for 3 days hold my car.

There have been many owners who have decided to "live with it" because the thought of an inexperienced repair rep tearing apart the headliner and sunroof was worse than the occasional rattle. Again, which is why I won't touch my sunroof to open it or the cover. Right now it's quiet, and I want to keep it that way.

I'll say that the majority of the "sunroof" issues out there have nothing to do with the actual sunroof. It is usually the headliner making the noise... There are hook and loop style pads that secure the headliner to the roof of the car that don't get fully clicked in from the factory and make a hell of a racket. Try pushing up (rather hard) in the middle of the opening on the passenger side and see if you hear a "click". If so, your problem is likely solved. I did that on mine and, along with adding Tesa tape to the overhead grab handles, mine is quiet now.

I was having the clanking sunroof noise that happens during warm, sunny days. Took it in the dealership and they immediately said there's a TSB for it. I've attached the PDF.

They did the TSB on mine and it only made things worse. So they took the car right back in, ordered an entirely new sunroof and installed it. There's only the smallest of rattles near the button console on the roof now. I can press on it and it goes away. I don't want to take it back to the dealer a third time so I'll just jam some foam up there, hoping it helps. It's not perfect, but much better.

Also, there's another TSB for rattles in the headliner, near the sunvisor.

Thankfully I've a dealer that has been really good working w/ me on the G70's various rattle and trim issues and delaminating screens. They're Genesis of Lindon in Utah, FWIW. I know it's a crapshoot for others right now. But I will say it's been a bit disheartening at the QC for these cars. My previous VW's have had considerably better build quality. These are about on par w/ my Mustangs.

Geez, it's almost like a sunroof is some sort of newfangled technology for Genesis and HMG. 🙄

I've heard some of the sunroof rattles in G70's and it is nothing compared to the reason I traded my 22 Forte GT in for the G70. That, and I couldn't stand the DCT in heavy traffic.

Now THAT'S a rattle.

Yep! I put up with it for almost 2 years before it finally drove me mad. Kia couldn't figure out what was making the noise...

I took my '21 G80 in for this repair. After a week at the dealer, I'm picking it up today. I hope it is fixed.
I just bought a 2019 G70 3.3 elite. 28k miles. I had a week left warranty so I took it in for the sun roof rattle noise at Genesis corona. They replaced the entire sun roof. Brand new and no noise. Same headliner they just remove it to install the sunroof. They had it for a week and gave me a 2024 g70 as a loaner. Excellent service. They said it’s a common problem they had 3 other people for the same issue.

Please pop back into this thread in a month or so and update your comments. Did the dealership fix (sunroof replacement) still work with no noises after a month of use, with sunroof opening and closing during the month period?

After a week at the dealership, the issue is fixed on my 2021 G80.

I didn't take a video but the mechanics were riding with me and they heard it so it's ok. I'll take it next time it's a clicky sound. I think there's a clip holding the headliner and the car chassis and that one's probably broken.
I have 3.3 sport model.
I have the same issue and I'm in the GTA. They just keep ordering parts to fix it. Waiting on 2nd part to arrive.

Been a month. Still good as new bru

That's great news!! Did the dealer explain to you what was different between the old sunroof and the new sunroof. There obviously is some difference if the new one is rattle free. Or is the "luck of the draw" on these, meaning Genesis has done nothing to permanently fix the issue on all new sunroofs.
