  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Best Level 2 charger for GV60?

I have the charge point flex on order. Does the charge point app have any use for commercial chargers? The closest commercial charger near me is a charge point, but people complain about it being slow (62.5kW on plugshare) so I'm guessing this level 2 home one might be just as fast?
Yes,the ChargePoint app is also your ticket to using their commercial chargers, some of which are free at various establishments. If you are hardwiring your home charger with a 60A circuit, then it will be capable of proving the max charging current to the GV60, which is 11.5kW.

Anyone what the approx charge time difference would be comparing 50A hardwired vs 40A plug?

I have the same issue and also have a case open with Genesis. I’ve sent them requested screen grabs, etc.
Yup, seems like it should be a simple fix...but has not been, luckily there are many workarounds.

I don't know but every electrician said hardwired was the way to go and not a close call. Among other reasons, you don't need GFI protection which, they say, is susceptible to tripping. I originally wanted a plug so I could easily replace the unit but the comeback was the unit is wall-mounted and once you take down the unit changing it for a new unit is a matter of disconnecting and reconnecting 3 wires. Very happy with the Flex and the install.

Here’s the math. A 40A plug (50A circuit) can deliver 9.6kW. A 48A hard-wire (60A circuit) can deliver 11.5kW. The latter is theoretically 20% faster!

An example. If it takes 4 hrs to charge on 9.6kW, then it will take 3 hrs and 12 min at 11.5kw.

If you can put in a 60A circuit you will get the chargers full ability at 48A.

I ran a 50amp circuit (6 gauge wire) myself from my workshop breaker panel the six feet to our garage. I set the flex point at 40 amps maximum and it will charge our GV60 in 6-8 hours if it was around 20%. That is plenty for me. The good thing about the Flex Point is you can tell it what amperage to use. I will say that at 40amps that the charging cable gets warm......not hot.....but warm. At 48 amps it may get even warmer....but any charger will be warm depending on the current running through the cable. If you are not comfortable with doing electrical work (esp 240v) get a licensed electrician to do the work.

I usually plug in every night to bring my charge back to 80%. Last night I forgot to plug in. This morning I plugged it in. I was at 70% and it took 55 minutes of Level II charging from my Chargepoint Flex to bring me back to 80% (I have a 50 amp circuit so I am charging continuously at 40 amps).

I would hope that anyone driving a GV60, except for emergencies, would use a fast charger and not a level II charger. I don't know if the same technology is used for its commercial Level II chargers but, again, it only makes sense to find Level III chargers. The disadvantage of the GV60 is its range; the advantage is its ability to accept a Level III fast charge and get back to 80% quickly.

To each his own, but most/many people charge at home and using DC fast charge most of the time is the one thing the owner's manual actually says not to do. Granted, this will probably never be an issue, and we have a 10-year warranty if it is, but that is the advice provided. A level 2 charge overnight is all you need even if you are going 20 to 100%. I do like the free EA deal though when it's convenient. Free is always good!

Yes! The slower the charge, the better it is for battery health. Level II is ideal in this regard if you have the time (such as overnight at home). Level III is obviously critical on the road.

I charge to 100% about twice a week on a level 2 charger. It is DCFC that will degrade your battery the fastest. With the built in buffers to protect the battery, you are not going to hurt the battery going to 100% with a lvl 2 charger......DCFC....maybe. The GV60 is my 4th EV. I have always charged to 100% with Lvl 2 charger every time and never had any degradation of battery or range in 9 years. A a matter of fact, in all that time period I have DCFC'ed a grand total of maybe three times and that was on an extended trip. The rest of the time I charge at home at 8 cents a KWH. According to my Charge Point Flex, I average about $27 / month in power for about 1200 miles a month.
