  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

2025 GV60 and broken wireless CarPlay/AA

Curious. Does your vehicle also not show the AA/CarPlay maps in the gauge cluster?
In mine, it does not show any mapping info

Odd, you should with the 2024 GV60. The update that brought wireless AA/CarPlay also allows maps in the gauge cluster and directions in the HUD from the phone’s primary navigation app.

I was just curious if the 2025 model was missing only the wireless connectivity or all of the infotainment improvements.

Useless charger indeed. Started a 185-mile drive home yesterday with my iphone 14 at 74%. Phone oveheated so badly it kept cycling charging off and on. Phone was down to 43% at the end of the trip.

You can still use carplay wirelessly. Simply plug your phone in the non data usb port when you need to charge it.
My iphone also overheats a lot when using the wireless charger pad.

Right, but my point is if you are plugging in anyway, it reduces the utility of having AA/CP wireless. The projection onto the driver display is very nice and I haven't tested if that happens when the connection is wired. In theory I don't see any reason for it not to work.

Even when using a wireless dongle I would occasionally get wireless to drop out on me which is jarring. When wired, it is rock solid and I've never had an issue.

I think for shorter trips when I'm not worried about my battery draining, I have just done wireless. On long trips, especially when I'm not familiar with routing, I just plug in and that saves me the hassle.

Time for me to make my suggestion again to get a Proclip and a magnetic Qi2 charger! Works great for me! No overheating, easy to attach the phone, plus you can make use of your phone’s screen for another app if desired.

I also have this, though with the smaller Scosche Qi2 charger, and it works great for long drives with wireless CarPlay. No overheating and the phone stays charged. It’s great that the USB-C charging port (not the data port) provides enough for full speed Qi2. No need for the 12v adapter.

Great suggestions! Where do you gentleman have the phone positioned in the car, if I may ask?

See the pics in the post! I can’t describe it any better 😉

My bad - I didn't process that you included a link to the thread. I'm definitely digging the air vent mount vs. something more permanent.

That is surprising. I don't know why that would be a wireless only feature, but that would be enough for me to want to use wireless.

Are you using the 2nd toggle from the left on the steering wheel to toggle through your options? One is the GV60 image on a road, one is the widget selection, and the other is the map...

For what it's worth, here's customer support's response to my complaint about the charger:

"
Thank you for contacting Genesis Customer Care Center.

We are sorry to learn of your concerns with the wireless charger not working correctly with you iPhone 14. We know this is not the answer you were hoping for, All Apple iPhones starting with the iPhone 12 use a different charging method and are not supported by the in-vehicle wireless charging system as the newer iPhones no longer use Qi technology. iPhone models 12 and newer will not charge using the in-vehicle wireless charging pad. The indicator light may blink on and off while generating heat, this is due to the phone being present on the pad and attempting to partially charge. "

I think my solution will be to pull out the rubber mat, and stick a thin magsafe puck in its place.

I'm stunned by how casually Genesis Support is saying that a phone released in 2020 that is already 4 generations old (iphone 12) is incompatible with the GV60 charger. The GV60 was introduced in 2021 as a 2022 model so Genesis should have known that their charger was already out of date with most wireless phones being sold. Given how much tech is in the vehicle, including future forward tech like software OTAs, V2L, and 800v architecture, it is really disappointing.

This is where we really need some 3rd party support to step in and design a replacement charging setup. The Rivian R1 vehicles, also released around the same time, have a bad charging design and there have been a number of 3rd party solutions.

I think the genesis tech doesn’t have a clue on what he/she is saying

I think you are correct. I will try (if I remember) to charge my IPhone 14 Pro in the slot and see if it charges while I am driving.

I have an iphone 13 and it charges, albeit overheating a lot .
My wife as an SE and it also charges.

Yes...it charged although it does get hot. Note that you can turn the charger off in the info system so you can just use it as a storage slot if you prefer.

Ya. The iPhone 12 and newer support BOTH Qi and Qi2. The 11 is Qi, only.

Regardless of the reason, the net effect is the same - the OE charger does a horrible job of charging. As I posted previously, at best, it can maintain a charge on a phone when using wireless CarPlay.

I recently moved to a MagSafe charger (mounted between the screens), disabled the OE charger, and will never look back. I'd recommend others to do the same. There isn't much point in fussing with the built-in charger, it's a lost cause.

I haven't tested if that happens when the connection is wired.
Yes, the map in the cluster display and HUD works when the connection is wired.

They don't. The charging slot works with my iPhone 14. It also works with my wife's iPhone 11, and with an iPhone 16.

It isn't.

There is a newer charging standard, but it wasn't available when the car was designed. And the old standard is still compatible with the latest phones, it just doesn't charge them as fast.
