  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis Considering 'Next-Generation G70' That's a 'Bit More Affordable,' Exec Says

But the sedan's ultimate future may be in question.

The Genesis G70 is the Korean automaker's third-longest-serving soldier, first arriving in 2017 as the brand's entry-level sport sedan and sticking around ever since. The rear-wheel-drive, once-manual-transmission-equipped model has gone through a series of facelifts and interior upgrades in its eight-year life, but it's not done evolving yet: the carmaker may be set to improve the Genesis G70 by making it cheaper.

You read that right. Genesis is debating a new, more affordable floor for its G70 lineup, according to Till Wartenberg, vice president of global communications at Genesis. Speaking with the media during a tour of the Genesis Lounge in Seoul, South Korea, Wartenberg suggested that a new entry-level model may soon be used to usher in a younger customer base to the brand.

"We want to create, potentially, a next-generation G70 with a little bit more affordable price range," Wartenberg said in Seoul.

As the current entry-level G70 uses a 300-horsepower, turbocharged 2.5-liter inline-four, a version that qualified as "a little bit more affordable" would likely need to come in below $40,000. If so, it could be a big deal for the entry-level luxury sedan market, especially if the G70 price point can undercut BMW's 3-Series and the ultra-confusing Audi sedan lineup.

But an investment in a more affordable G70 trim wouldn't necessarily mean the sporty sedan's long-term future is assured. Doubts about the future of the car also surfaced during the conversation, with Genesis's chief product and strategy officer Marc Choi. Read more...

Thanks for posting this.
I feel the G70 is an important vehicle in the Genesis lineup. It's an impressive entry option into the brand and not everybody wants a CUV. I do hope they keep this model going. I see them all over the place here in Florida. People love them...

Seems like Genesis doesn't quite know what its plans are and/or talking out both sides of their mouth.

On the one hand, talk about going more upscale/higher margins and with respect to a potential G70 replacement, getting larger and going BEV/EREV (not to mention bringing the interior up to par with the rest of the lineup), which for the near term means more $$.

Being the last of the "old" Genesis models, the G70 is already more of a bargain pricewise in the lineup compared to its competition.

Only way to ensure that the G70 has a future is if the next model appeals to the Korean market, and that means getting roomier, more luxurious, etc.

The G70 is already competitive with the 3 series, C Class, A4/5. A cramped back seat is the only disadvantage compared to the 3 series / C Class. Making the G70 more affordable would be a mistake unless they keep the current pricing while making it more luxurious with a slightly larger wheelbase.

My assumption is that the G90 won't be around forever as the biggest sedans are the slowest sellers. This would leave the door open for a G70 that's roomier as well as a G80 that grows a bit to fill the shoes of both the G80 and G90.

I’m glad I bought my G70 while it’s still in its current form. I’ve always liked smaller cars and the G70 dimensions were a positive factor in my decision to buy it.

Its current length of just under 185 inches fits perfectly in the left side of my garage (side by side with my Nissan Pathfinder) and still allows the car doors to fully open and the refrigerator/freezer door at the back of the garage to fully open. Also, while the back seat is certainly cramped for adults, my pre-teen granddaughters fit just fine. 😃

The G70 is a fantastic car. My opinion is that it needs more marketing. My biggest wish is for it to come in 2 door. Already has the profile and extra room to get in and out would be great.

Its a fantastic car. I had a 2018 Infinity Q60 Red Sport 400 AWD and my G70 Sport Prestige Worldwide AWD is better in every measure. Was also less expensive than the Infinity.

Show this car off more! Product placement in movies/TV. Do they even make music videos anymore? SEMA shows. Hype it up, this car deserves it.

What the G70 series needs, more than anything else, is a halo trim. 503HP M3 Competition and 671HP AMG C63 help sell a lot of baby BMWs & mediocre Mercs. Hopefully, Genesis is serious about making the Magma line true track machines, not just blinged-up playtoys for rich Arabs.

Going to be a rough patch for the auto industry in the near future, lots of uncertainty with the whole tariff situation. I doubt many vehicles on the fringe are going to make sense for automakers to continue investing in. I would imagine there will be fewer models available throughout the industry but who knows, we're in uncharted waters from what I can tell. Glad I have mine, hopefully it will continue to kick ass for many more years!
