But the sedan's ultimate future may be in question.
The Genesis G70 is the Korean automaker's third-longest-serving soldier, first arriving in 2017 as the brand's entry-level sport sedan and sticking around ever since. The rear-wheel-drive, once-manual-transmission-equipped model has gone through a series of facelifts and interior upgrades in its eight-year life, but it's not done evolving yet: the carmaker may be set to improve the Genesis G70 by making it cheaper.
You read that right. Genesis is debating a new, more affordable floor for its G70 lineup, according to Till Wartenberg, vice president of global communications at Genesis. Speaking with the media during a tour of the Genesis Lounge in Seoul, South Korea, Wartenberg suggested that a new entry-level model may soon be used to usher in a younger customer base to the brand.

As the current entry-level G70 uses a 300-horsepower, turbocharged 2.5-liter inline-four, a version that qualified as "a little bit more affordable" would likely need to come in below $40,000. If so, it could be a big deal for the entry-level luxury sedan market, especially if the G70 price point can undercut BMW's 3-Series and the ultra-confusing Audi sedan lineup.
But an investment in a more affordable G70 trim wouldn't necessarily mean the sporty sedan's long-term future is assured. Doubts about the future of the car also surfaced during the conversation, with Genesis's chief product and strategy officer Marc Choi. Read more...
