Reported Issues with the Genesis GV60

Update... I had the car towed (via Genesis Roadside Assistance) to the dealer 40 miles away yesterday morning. They don't have any loaner cars; Genesis has agreed to pay for (reimburse, I assume) my rental at least until the diagnosis is complete. Who knows when that will be. I do know that the car arrived and was "checked in" with the service department. I hope it's not gone for multiple weeks... On the other hand, I hope they keep it until the actually find & fix the problem.

Another update -- the car has been at the dealer for a week now. They're running tests, but still nothing definitive. :-(

Did you ask them to do an ICCU work up?

Hi, my rear axle snapped on my 3 month old Gv60 as I was turning on to a highway. Hear a loud noise and wheel started making crazy grinding noises. Thankfully was able to get to the shoulder safely. Got it towed to dealer who says they have to look at it first before telling me if it’s covered..How do I ensure this will be covered under warranty? I mean an axle shouldn’t be snapping on a 3 month old 70k car.. I’m aware of the recall but it doesn’t come up for my car when I put it my VIN…Seems pretty obvious it’s related to the recall issue..
Hi Eagle18,

Same thing happened to me! TWICE!

In Jan of this year, my axle snapped. They fixed it, and less than two months later it happened again. Scary. I filed here with the NHTSA.

Are you still driving your GV60?

Happy to chat more. Genesis refusing to buy back my vehicle so I'm at a loss about what to do next. Obviously a death trap and I do not feel comfortable driving it anymore.

What model year do you have?

2023. It was affected by the stop sale order related to poor heat treatment of axles causing them to be brittle. So Genesis had to replace the axle BEFORE they sold it to me. Despite what should have been as good as new fix, it snapped on me. And then two months later the second fix snapped again. So my car has been through three axles in 30k miles. Not good. One thing is for it happen once. Another thing is for the fix not to be a fix at all. It’s like a Groundhog Day situation. Genesis is saying it is not eligible for a buyback because they keep fixing it in a timely manner. Really?!? C’mon people. That’s beyond poor service. This is corporate insanity and disregard for human life.

Agreed your experience is unacceptable. I would confirm the lemon law laws in your state. In some instances you can file a claim based on the amount of time they have had the vehicle to fix the same problem and or if it exceeds a certain number of attempts (usually 3).

I’m not loving the idea of having to risk my life a third time for the lemon law to kick in. 🥺

I'm reasonably certain that a life threatening issue like a broken axle while operating the vehicle, that occurs more than once, qualifies as a lemon law event. Certainly in CA it would be a slam dunk

Me again... my car has now be in service for three weeks. I get only rare and generally meaningless updates from the service manager. I get occasional calls from the Genesis Motor America consumer affairs representative, but they have yet to accomplish anything. Except, thankfully, for saying Genesis will reimburse my rental car fees.

When should I start demanding my money back and/or a replacement GV60?

I would say yesterday. I had battery problems with my prior BMW PHEV and by the time they decided to replace the entire battery pack, I had given up and told them I was going to invoke the lemon law; the service manager said he agreed with me and asked me to give him an hour; I did and after that hour he told me that BMW would buy back the car. They did and I ordered a new BMW and it was a fine car and the buyback experience was excellent. After three axle replacements, it is time for them to buy it back.

On a lemon law (at least in my state) there is a provision that the company can reduce the refund by the amount of usage that was incurred prior to buyback. BMW gave me a very reasonable buyback number and I went ahead. So if you can convince them to do a buyback, they will probably want to reduce the amount by some formula regarding usage. I actually think that is a reasonable process.

Note that my issue is with the 12-V batter (and/or ICCU). No axle issues here.

I'm now well into week #4. I've started using the phrase "buy back" with the Genesis corporate rep, and this morning he told me that I'll be getting a new rep from the team that evaluates buy back requests. Assuming this happens, I wonder what I should do...

A. They finally fix my car, and all is well, I guess?
B. They still can't fix the car, but Genesis offers me another one? I suppose I should take it?
C. They still can't fix the car, but Genesis returns my money. What then? Buy another GV60, or something else?

If it comes down to choice C, do we think new GV60s are immune from this 12-V battery problem? What about the 2026 version? Hmm...

Look at my original thread for what I went through. I would start this process ASAP!

I do understand what you are saying, However for my "own peace of mind" if I charge it once a week before I drive it I know that I at least started out the week with a "full" battery charge, vs starting out the week driving at 12.2v and wondering if it will maintain at 12.2 v or drop even further. The benefit of charging it once a week may or may not help, but for me I feel more secure in doing it this way, and after +2.5 years of ownership I have never been stuck with a dead 12v battery while travelling.
Here's the deal - the GV60 is *supposed* to use its EV battery to condition and maintain the 12V battery. This is explained clearly in the manual. I do occasionally see the orange battery conditioning light on in the evenings when the car is sitting while not connected to my home L2 charger.

This should also be done while the vehicle is connected to the L2 charger - it's simple operational logic to use external power to condition the 12V battery when it's available.

This has now occurred 4 times since January. I have spoken with my dealer (50+ miles away...) and they did state the 2025 has a recall for the ICCM. He claims it was done as part of our PDI but they did have an issue with the vehicle at delivery, and we had to go have a coffee somewhere else while they fixed it.

He claims the Genesis remote app can also keep the vehicle awake (who cares? It's connected to the L2 charger, and the EV battery should be keeping the 12V alive...) and that 3rd party apps like insurance driving nannies and the like can also contribute (we don't use any of that garbage).

For an automaker that consistently ranks in the top 10 brands, this actually seems pretty tikky-tak. This will be our last Genesis.

How often should we see activity with the 'orange' dash light? Every now and then I see if blink, but there's not pattern I can figure out. Is there somewhere on the display menus to check the status of the 12v battery?

Don’t try to watch for the orange charging light. It just comes on when the vehicle decides that it needs to charge the 12v battery from the high voltage battery when the vehicle is otherwise off.

The infotainment system and dash does not show a 12v battery voltage. In a properly running vehicle, it’s not something you should have to check.

lol, on my 1974 FIAT X19 I've installed a LED voltage readout because it needs to be checked everyday. Old times....
You'd think with all the other high-tech battery readouts on that car, they would have included this one, since it definitely would warn of a problem before the 12v hits zero

Or, you know, actually just record in the app that the 12v battery has died as a "last gasp" bit of telemetry. When this occurs, the vehicle is plugged in to pole power - it's not just sitting there with a dome light on or anything. But - nothing. The app records the vehicle as problem-free, no trouble codes, and doesn't even really "know" the vehicle is dead.
