  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

2023 G90 Mechanical key replacement

I don't think they were asking about your problems. Really weird response.
Many were about 12-18 months ago. Toyota Lexus is the answer to any & KHG problems. I drive a lot of miles and a lot of cars. The banks (including KHG) know that Toyota Lexus hold their value while KHG generally do not.

I have to agree with mosterneck. I have a 23 G90 that has been experiencing constant issues with the battery and charging system as mentioned in my earlier posts.

It just came out of the dealership a week ago as they had to replace the battery because it died once again. This time all the lights on the driver display were flashing on and off, and it threw a bunch of error messages and just died.

I restarted it with my portable lithium starter and had it towed to the dealer. It was there for 5 days just to diagnose and replace the battery.

I have been working with Genesis customer service for months now and they were reviewing my buyback request so I just left the car sitting in the garage with my battery tender keeping a charge on it. Genesis called and refused my request once again so I decided to use the car today. After driving it I noticed that the battery voltage monitor on my radar detector showed only 11.6 to 11.9. volts so the charging system is no longer working. Probably something they did when they changed the battery.

No telling what they will find this time and what they will break 😒

Genesis customer service is aware and i asked them to reopen the case. Very very frustrating...

I have owned 9 Toyota and 3 Lexus vehicles before going to Genesis and not one of them ever left me stranded. They are extremely reliable vehicles. This G90 is the most unreliable car I have ever owned and Genesis will not do anything to make it right.

I will be at the Mercedes dealer tomorrow to test drive an E450 4 matic in preparation for ordering a 26 model. If I like the car I will be placing my order next week.

Unfortunately my first choice, Lexus, is now going in a different direction and no longer build cars with adequate power. Also the styling sucks on the 26 models so even though they are reliable it's not for me. So hopefully the E450 will work out.

I will update once the Genesis dealer gets back to me.

I had to get a 2023 to get a V8 GX460. The LX570 has a V8 up to 2023 and maybe 2024?

Change of plan! There are 15% tariffs on the E series sedans so I decided to go with a 26 GLE450 4Matic AMG 53. It should be in later this week. First SUV since my 94 Toyota 4-Runner. Very nicely appointed. I hope those of you that are having problems with batteries and charging get your issues resolved. I will probably be leaving this forum but will monitor for a couple more weeks. Good luck guys!!!

So what is the status of these other cars?

@lamikela1 went on to a Benz. This seems like the only legitimate poster in the thread.

@dyag has two posts on this forum. A July 2023 post about being locked out and a December 2024 post about trickle charge. Did you get your issues resolved?

@djsnoonan12! seems like a troll post. One post and his account is no longer active.

@Keyesport123 seems like another troll account. 3 posts in mechanical key thread and account is no longer active.

@mduffin5205 seems like a troll post too. One post August 4th and account is no longer active.

Also seemed like they were all issues in Florida? If they were real, I wonder if it was hurricane/water damage or heat related auto-conditioning that caused battery issues?

I just followed the instructions in the manual but it wouldn't pull to the stop so that I could latch it. I had the dealer check it as well and no luck. Since this is all new they said that they would check the repair manual and see what is needed to repair it. I am still waiting for them to contact me so that an appointment can be set up.
Lamikela1 , can you tell me how and where you wired and attached the permanent battery charger cables? Thanks very much.

Post #26 above has this:

…..Now inside, you can open the hood.

7. Remove the plastic panel above the fuse box. It has a plastic removable (barely) rivet towards the back of the panel.
8. Remove the fuse box lid by pushing the left and right plastic latches.
9. Turn off the jump battery device.
10. Attach the negative lead of the jump battery to the grounding bolt just aft of the fuse box.
11. Attach the positive lead of the jump battery to the silver metal strip inside the fuse box.
12. Turn on the jump battery device. It may take a little time to energize the system (about 20-30 seconds in my case).
13. Start the car.
14. Turn off the jump battery device.
15. Detach the device's leads and check the charge level of the device.
16. Reinstall the fuse box lid and the plastic panel (with the plastic rivet).
17. Reinstall the door handle panel.
18. If you have the 3.5T E-SUPERCHARGER model, the 12-volt battery is in the trunk BENEATH the supercharger battery. So, it is difficult to access. You may even have to remove the supercharger battery to access the 12-volt battery.

Thanks for the response. I would like to install a permanent battery charger lead and not use the alligator clips. Appreciated
Purpose is to be able to charge the battery if its too low to allow me to open the doors.
