  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Found at Motortrend. The Genesis loses this comparison, and those of you who hate the Genesis suspension will find plenty of ammo:

The result is a Chrysler that floats down the road on a cloud and a Hyundai that rides like a sports sedan without the credentials to back it up. Worse, the front and rear suspension feel as though they're tuned for different cars, making the rear end nervous on patchy pavement. The Genesis may give its passengers more room, but the 300C gives them a better ride.

Funny how they neglect to mention how the Chrysler (POS) falls apart in short order. Typical Chrysler, great power train, nice looks but hardware and interior are flimsy and fall apart. Also notice that price as tested is at least a g higher!

Actually, the Chrysler 300 is built from the same bones as the prior generation Mercedes Benz E class. It is a solid platform. The only real complaints I am aware of with the Chrysler 300's has been with interior refinement. It is my understanding that the new Interior is quite well done. Will have to go check one out at some point.

Yes, but it's a Chrysler powertrain. Chrysler isn't known for building reliable transmissions.

I owned a 2007 Chrysler 300C - and while I will likely ever buy a Chrysler again, it's because of the horrific service experience I had. I never had transmission trouble and I wasn't exactly easy on the car. The interior was "okay" - but it is AN ENTIRELY DIFFERENT STORY with the new model. I've sat in the new 300C a few times now - and it's extremely expensive feeling. The leather, soft touch materials, dash - everything.. Much better. And while I don't like the front-end very much - it's a nice car overall..

Hyundai has their hands full with this one...

Drove a rental 300C for a week in MI & OH. Not refined. Wind noise galore. Cheap materials. Awful windshield lookout due to low roof line (if you come to a traffic signal, stay well behind the white line as you won;t be able to see the signals). Smallish trunk...OK- so I would never purchase.

My uncle has a 300... and it is a very nice looking car. I honestly don't think they improved the exterior with the new one, though the interior is improved tremendously. I would not consider that car based on the looks of it. And now that the Chrysler 200 is out (or $200.00 Chrysler as I like to call it), the bigger sibling would just be a reminder that the two are related.

My peeve with this review is... they couldn't wait a couple of months and do a more "fair" comparison with the R spec? I mean... if you're gonna compare new models with old ones, what is the point??!?!?! I think the R spec would smoke that car on performance, HP, 0-60, qtr mile, etc...

Of course, the big question remains: CAN HYUNDAI MAKE IT RIDE LIKE THE BIG BOYS?

I await for the day, in the hopes that they can. Soon.

Today, my wife told me that if anything, the ride on my 4.6 is getting worse. She says that it rides like "an old truck". I agree. I'm toying with trading for something else that gives a better ride, but don't know what. (Kind of like the Twin Turbo SHO and MKS [Red "S"] but just don't know at this time. (If I find the right deal though ..........<grin>)

BTW, I have not driven either the SHO or MK(Red S) yet, but I will, one of those days.

I've gotten to the point where I really try not to focus on the ride any longer. Its gotten worse in my 09 too, and I just cringe at certain points during my morning commute. The ride is truly a train wreck. I still wonder what the hell I was thinking when I signed on the dotted line.

My lease is up May 2012 and until then I just try and focus on the comfortable seats, great stereo and the other good aspects of the car.

At least I still get a lot of compliments on it :o

Yes, but it's a Chrysler powertrain. Chrysler isn't known for building reliable transmissions.

Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep is waiting for their 8 speed transmission as well. Lancia is launching our version of the 300 in Europe with the 3.6 engine and the 8 speed transmission. It is being reported to return 28 mpg and running to 62 mph in 7.2 sec.

My sister owns a 300C and I went from my Genesis to her car and her driver's seat felt hard and not as comfortable as the Genesis. Haven't been in the new ones yet, but like others I'm not a big fan of the exterior styling. I prefer the Charger styling over the 300. The biggest thing keeping it out of it right now is the 5 speed transmission. 2012 should have the 8 speed.

Chrysler and Mercedes rank very low in reliablity; among the worst cars; check Consumer Reports.

I still want to know what MotorTrend is smoking. Pro Detroit?
A 5 Speed? Are you kidding me?
It turns like crap- 3ft more distance to make a u-turn- (over the curb you go)
It's heavier- it still is a square box
Less headroom, footroom
No tech package- all the goodies
And pricier.
Sorry- reviewing a government owned car company's massage of a car that lit a spark way back in 2005 and giving it such high kudos after I just drove its 2010 dog predesessor for 1200 miles last week- must have been smoking Downtown Motown crack.

You drove the old model. The new one has a much improved interior. The reason they're even having this comparison is to show how far Chrysler has come with their flagship. Discussing the old version here really doesn't make a lot of sense.

That's the big question. Can they make it ride like it's supposed to... And, yes - the RSpec will be good to compare to the new 300C very soon.

To add to what you said-- how is it that the 385 hp was not as fast as the 375 hp Genesis. The 375hp Genesis has a 0-60 time of 5.3 sec.(Car and Driver) others have tested it and got 5.5 sec 0-60 for the 375hp. What gives? Also, MT liked the Genesis in their test drive across Europe.

Agreed. I know several C300 owners that have nothing but praise for the cars. The new interior is simply fantastic!!! It is funny, but, if the original C300 had had this interior, it would have been the deal of the century.

Saw the new interior today- a reworked dash and infotainment system surround change worthy of so much praise? Doesn't come close to Hyundai's. After 7 years this isn't a new car, but a refreshening like what what is coming to the soon to be 4 yr. Genesis.
Warranty is worse. Interior space is less. Hopefully they greatly improved the sound insulation so you can't hear the sand picked up by the tires in the wheel wells over the weak audio system.
Advantage- available AWD. Still thinking about another...

This test is the NEW 300... not the 2010 and before. Funny how people immediately start talking about experiences from the past.

"Oh yeah.. I drove one of those 300's.. " " Me and my wife once rented a 300 and ... "

You really need to SIT in the car to understand the improvements. Not just look at the interior in pictures and come to conclusions.

I owned a 2007 Chrysler 300C. The service sucked. The interior wasn't anything special. I loved the exterior and the power was really nice.. Would I take one over a V8 Hyundai Genesis? NO! The new model is another story.. Besides the front-end looking a little tame (which I don't really like), it's a much improved automobile. And since I'm not exactly crazy about the front-end of the Hyundai Genesis, it's really about an even playing field. Both cars are very nice inside and out. Both cars have great power. The Chrysler rides better... For a car that's supposed to be about luxury, Hyundai needs to work on the ride...

There's no reason why the Hyundai Genesis should not be compared to a new Chrysler 300C.

So the seats are better? Yeah the 2010's sucked. The plastic center arm rest doesn't wobble? The HEMI engine growls, but lacks refinement. I await the R-SPEC as my 2009 replacement.
Again- I liked the 300C in 2005...and am sure it is much improved for 2011. It needed to be. Did they kill the 2011 300 SRT-8? Nice to see that vs. the R-SPEC (if R-Spec had Brembos, supercharger)

Sorry, I didn't read each reply carefuly in this thread, but has anyone mentioned that the 300c is god awful UGLY?!

No complarison as far as I'm concerned!
