Is the Tech Package Nav System a touch screen?

I'm considering buying a 2011 Genesis and went to look at them yesterday. The salesman told me that the nav system that comes with the tech package is not a touchscreen and we weren't able to control it at all by touching the screen. However, I noticed that in the brochure he gave me it lists one of the features added by the tech package as "Advanced nav system w/ 8-inch touchscreen & XM NavTraffic". We asked another one of the salesmen there and they said that they thought that you could, in fact, get it to work as a touch screen but he couldn't remember how.

Is that true or can it really only be controlled from the DIS? If it is true then is it the same interface as the DIS or is it different? If you can enable touchscreen then can you use both touchscreen AND the DIS or just the touchscreen?

At first glance I like the tech package interior more than the nav package one, and if it can also be used as a touch screen that is a definite plus! I'm just not sure how easy it will be to use the DIS without a lot of practice.

I bought a 2011 3.8 with Tech. The "Tech" package comes with Nav, but is not touchscreen - must use the DIS. Also, tech does not have the buttons around the screen, giving it a cleaner look, but prob less functionality. I do not like the NAV and would have been happy to get all the features less the NAV. Also, you cannot turn off the NAv as a default (ie, it always starts up with the car - then you can turn it off. Same with the USB - if there is a stick in it, the AV autostarts and plays it every time you start the vehicle. very frustrating).

I still think a good quality handheld GPS beats the built in system hands down.

Not sure what you mean by "can't turn it off". You mean it's always running when you push the NAV button? Shouldn't it be? Or you mean you don't want it running in the background while your DIS is selected to XM (for example)? If the latter, what difference does it make whether it's running or not if you're not looking at it?
I rarely see mine since the DVD or radio is always selected when I park the car.

2.) It's one or the other; you must choose touchscreen w/out tech package or non-touchscreen w/ tech package.
3.) I also wondered how difficult the non-touchscreen DIS system would be to use without considerable practice, but ended up finding it very intuitive overall. Both of my parents have also commented on it's ease of use in limited "fiddling".

Some of the weird software programming nuances are more of a mental hurdle with this system than is the DIS' physical knob-controlled architecture, IMO.

Read up on expert reviews of the tech package... from what I've read, most consider it effective and easy to use for beginners - especially relative to the competition.

I think you're right, yours is a fluke. I haven't seen the map or NAV in months, only the audio mode I was last in (once past the nag).
I don't recall if there's a setting for that or not, but I'm sure you've looked.
